Ok now i've got most of my skills at 4 or 5 and it's time to move up one level. I will be pirating in low sec most (all) of the time. What would be best to go for, command ship or battleship?
To get t2 large guns would be 35 days and to get into the command ship would be 50, so in terms of training time (and cost) battleships do have the edge.
I'm strictly minmatar specced.
Cheers

Unless you you're in a corp/allance and part of a fleet, fielding a CS in lowsec would be suicide. If you want to roam solo, use a PvP BC setup and save yourself some cash.
If you insist on either BS or CS, go for BS and save yourself a chunk o' change. Especially since you are guaranteed to lose it. It's only common sense, after all.

When I was a pirate we like using commands as they tank well do good dps and are much more mobile than bs's. This was mostly for gate camping getting to the gate and getting off the gate as fast as possible. When you know a good fight is comming there is no substitute for a bs especially while taking gate aggro though.

Well, basic question is what do you want to do with it?

Did you somehow miss the "I will be pirating in low sec" part?

Big difference if you're going to gatecamp in it with a gang and scouts, go on roaming shield logistics gangs, go in random crap gangs, or be a solo CS hero, you know.

The Tempest is still a great pirate ship, but overall you would fair better in a Sleipnir. More reasons to train for the Sleipnir are the Broadsword, Huginn, Rapier, Muninn, and the best pirate ship ever to fly in Eve: Vagabond.
Those right there are probably the most awesome pool of pirate ships you will ever see in the game.
Going for a Tempest, or even a Machariel, over any of those just doesn't seem right.

I was pondering the same thing the other day. I ended up deciding for CS.
Basically, I figure the skilltraining for CS includes so many incredibly useful skills itŠs really no contest. Leadership skills are always useful, cruiser 5 is really good. HAC 4 is pretty neat, etc.
Getting large guns and BS 5 is only 2-2,5 months anyway. CS is a bit over 3, but youŠll end up with a much better character for it.
A well-fitted and well-flown CS has a decent chance of survival. No matter what you do, a T1 BS doesnŠt have anywhere near the same survivability with the same support skills.
Besides, youŠll get BC 5 in the process. Cost-effective, versatile gang PVP! Go have fun in a Cyclone or Hurricane!
