Back in 2008 I literally spent weeks convincing my wife that it would be a good idea to come to Fanfest, but the Sisters of EVE program has completely won her over. I am sure there will be some other Americans who can pop in and give you some more advice but the best thing you can look at doing now is booking early as flight prices are cheaper the earlier you book them. You can check out Icelandair and Iceland Express to see which is cheaper from your nearest domestic airport. Accommodation can take up quite a bit of your budget but there are quite a few low cost hotels which are popular with EVE players and you should check out the Hotel Cabin for early low rates. The price of alcohol will vary from bar to bar but you can pick up duty free beer and spirits when you arrive in Iceland to subsidize that expense. In a bar a beer will range from 500 ISK up to around 800 ISK. There really is nothing quite like your first Fanfest. CCP Tyr has been making the event bigger and better with every year so this one is going to be the best so far CCP Navigator - Lead Community Representative

We should be having package deals on the site later this year (flight, hotel, ticket) as we've done in the past, but I want to talk about spending USD in Iceland. I'm not sure where in the US you're located, but I living in NYC where the cost of living is a bit higher than most of the country. Food and drink there costs a bit more than they do in the US. A sandwich and soda from Nonni's can cost 10 or more dollars, depending upon what I get. But they have a lot of convenience stores there (called 10-11) which, I think, is much more affordable than eating out all the time. Booze can be a bit pricey, too, but we will probably provide you with food/beer tickets for use at the venue (iirc... Akureyri is 5-6 hours drive away from Reykjav+¡k (each way), depending on how insane your driver is. Probably closer to 7 if you are going by bus. It's not really feasible as a Fanfest event. That said, Akureyri is a awesome and beautiful town and a great place to visit. As for night bars, every bar in Iceland is a night bar.
