Fellow EVE enthusiasts.
What are CCP's politics on exchanging real life items for ISK?

I have a high-end headset that gives me a terrible headache, but instead of selling it for rl cash, I would sell it for ISK instead.
Or I could exchange it for ETC. Those I can sell legally or use them myself.

That would be a violation of our policies. The only thing you can spend IRL money on is Game Time Cards. These can be turned into PLEX that can be sold in-game for ISK.

Edited by: Baudolino on 14/11/2009 16:35:22 I just wanted to add a couple of funnies..
Back in the day- the real early days of eve- there were entreprenurial players raising isk in ways i`m not sure were covered by the EULA..
In the early days a few people started up a **** site using the in-game browser. They sold access to the site for isk
This one is better though..
the word censored refers to pictures of naked women There was a female player masturbating on webcam for isk or so she said.
Obviously i`m a socially conscientious individual and never paid for or ellicited such services..
Just thought i`d put it out there - there are many roads that lead to isk.. Not sure where CCP draw the line though..

IT seems that out of game related items traded for isk is fine.

Im also selling these (custom versions of your own character) if anyone is interested, you can contact me ingame.
Opinions and comments are encouraged, still lots more work to do on the model :)
Space

That is a very nice concept indeed.
I would advise you that you may not sell any 3D models for real life money. If someone wants to donate ISK to you for a 3D model then that is between you both but you should stipulate that real life currency will not change hands
Now paying money for above items would probably violate some copyrights.

But neither would be exchanging real life money on either item. The purchase is for a headset and the payment in game currency.
There is no mention of real life "but instead of selling it for rl cash, I would sell it for ISK instead.""
Did you miss read the text or is the actual violation where a real life item is exchanged for ingame currency, or vice versa of course.

On the other hand, there are several out-of-game services (like killboards, signature artists, and such) that accept ISK for payment, so it's a tricky one.

If I buy a pencil from my RL friend Bob for 50 million isk, how the **** is CCP gonna find out?

Newsflash, these kind of "services" are still being sold in EvE today. Last month I saw the bio of a character that was in the Amarr system that offered real-life pictures of various body parts for ISK.
Judging by the accompanying price list, I doubt that this was being done for medical science... |

Rule of thumb: always no.
"Can I trade X for ISK?" where X is a RL item. No. "Can I trade X for PLEX/in-game item?" No.
However, there are some exceptions. Any services (read: non-refundable services. Not items that can be then sold for monies) related to EvE (Killboards, vent, that guy making 3d avatars) however can be redeemed for ISK.
Basically trading anything that you can sell for $$ in exchange for ISK is the same as just using that money to buy ISK.

What about stuff that cant really be resold in real life, but isn't really eve related, like offering isk if a corpmate orders a pizza for your broke college student ass?

Dude, lol, who's gonna know that you gave the guy eve isk for pizza? Or rather, who's going to care?
Now if you started a little "business" where you were giving real-life services or items for isk, which could then be resold for real money, and you happened to be making quite a bit of profit, then you'd warrant some attention.

I would actually enjoy it if CCP did micro-transactions for eve stuffs. Not just gtcs.
So instead of buying a gtc with isks you are buying credit for the eve store, so you can, re-up your account, or buy that guristas hoodie, or even go for an eon subscription.

So, if I want to make corp/alliance t-shirts or hats or keychains, and tell them that if they want one, to send me 25M isk, I'm violating the EULA?
What about hardcopy documents that are training guides for mining, PvP, Market, etc? Can I sell those (or access to those) for isk?
