I'll admit that I don't quite understand why you're directing that statement at me, since that was a sentiment I was already hinting at.

Edited by: Transporter Ted on 22/11/2009 22:23:17 I hate my bloody name although I actually never created the character, it does not effect anything in game though so no point worrying about it :)

Currently in game you play a spaceship not your character. I haven't really looked at mine in any detail since i made it. If i played a female char i couldn't even look at her pixelated butt like the old MMO excuse goes.
Now when you'll be able to walk around in stations that's when people are going to start thinking about it, but i think we'll get to remodel our characters anyway.

You do realize, that you're restricting yourself from a good bunch of available character sales there, just because of a 50 times 50 pixels picture box in a chat, and somewhat bigger profile picture.
The sex of your character doesn't appear or show in anything other, than that small, small picture where everyone always look the same, with the same clothes and same facial features, and in a chat you can't even make much out of it and better yet no one even bothers to try to make anything out of it.
Also, are you not secure with your sexuality? Are you afraid that playing a female character would make you less of a man, or even, gasp, change your sexual drive toward your own sex?
Or maybe, maybe you think women just aren't cut out for the job. Flying those serious internet spaceships. I mean, there isn't a stove on the bridge, amiright?

Well, originally my main focus was people creating characters to sell, but giving them ridiculous names. The characters sex was part of it yes, but wasn't the main point of my first post.
Since the thread went that direction, I will conclude by saying this:
It is a game, yes, I agree, and while it may be true that the gender doesn't affect your skills etc... being a male and choosing to play a female, is in my opinion no different than if a young boy and his friends decided to play house, and he put on a wig, make-up, and a dress and wanted to play the mother. That, is also a game, and a little boy dressing up as a little girl to play the mother, has "no affect on gameplay" as you guys like to say.

Dood its a game. I'd rather play a chick toon than a male. Thats my preference, if you got a problem with it just deal.

What's a stupid name is in the eye of the beholder though. Always thought I had a pretty nice character name ( been with me for as long as online gaming exists pretty much ) till someone tried pronouncing it... ;-(
But the things with the numbers and just gibberish I agree with, wouldn't want to run around named like a piece of ikea furniture with a number attached at the back. ;-D

I just started reading some of his writings and to be honest it's pretty crap. Seems to say very little with many words and tends to repeatedly use certain words to a point where it becomes annoying (to me).
Still, these are early stories so I'll persevere and see if it gets any better.
Edit: Also, my name is awesome

Uh, I think you roleplay a little more then most people. That you're attached to your characters portrait a little more then most. It's certainly not like putting on makeup irl, . Did you think this was Sims? 2nd Life? It's not, this is Eve, and at least for now, you're a faceless, genderless spaceship *in game*, not a person who has face2face contact with other persons.
Voice comms changes that a little bit, if you use them, but only serves to distance the player from the character(s) played.

hey hey
Female Avatars are generally considered to be more trustworthy and percieved as much more personable. Using females with a nice smile and a pretty (achura) face has advantages in terms of a MMOLG where the social aspect is high. Interpersonal Perception plays a large part when hiding behind an avatar.
Originally by: William Shakespeare 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, Retain that dear perfection which he owes. Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee Take all myself.

Everyone, please stop with the stupid names. This is a SERIOUS game. It contains spaceships AND spreadsheets. In fact, I myself had to click on many things and open many windows last night while playing. This is serious business. NO SILLY NAMES!
