I run 2 PC's side by side, each with their own LCD / speakers etc. Ive bene striving to find a good software KVM system and FINALLY i found the best.
For years I used Stardocks Multiplicy, which i must admit was a fantastic program but i became annoyed when it wouldnt work correctly with the macro keys on the g15 keyboard from Logitech. Also Multiplicy seemingly never got updated which was driving me alittle nuts too.
I then switched for a few months to Synergy, a free program that really is alittle more complicated then it needed to be, but worked pretty well. However connecting / disconnecting from the software was annoying, as I would be working on my company or playing eve and wanted them both connected, but then if i wanted to play a FPS id have to disable the software and 50% of the time it refused to reconnect.
Last night I finally found Input Director and I must say its by far the best program I've used for controlling 2 PC's with 1 keyboard / mouse.
Its easy to setup ( alittle harder then Multiplicy but easier then Synergy ) it has a a cool "mouse locator" that turns on when u switch screens and it also is easy to turn off and on. Plus, no annoying pops like synergy and never gives me connection issues.
HIGHLY recommended.

Never used any sort of software like this, but what kind of hardware do you need to pair this up with? Does this software require one of those hub set ups that connects each computer to the same mouse and keyboard?

Only one of my computers is running right now, so I can't play with it myself. Does it work similar to Synergy where you just slide the pointer off of one screen and it moves to the other? __________________________________________

No special hardware, so long as both comps are on the same network, it emulates the other mouse movements and keyboard buffer remotely to the one theyre not plugged into. Though ive found running synergy through the wireless has an aggravating lag blip when crossing screen edges, its crisp and smooth when theyre all feeding off a hub. |

Thanks I'll check it out! I've used Multi and Syn before for 6 computers with gazillions of monitors attached but stability was a big issue.

Looks good. Been using Synergy for a few years now just fine but I'll give this one a whirl.

I've used Input director for a long time.
How these programs work is simple.
You have multiple computers(2+) that are all networked together(Your router for most folks).
You set the program up on all of them.
Your "main" PC, the one you use the most, with the keyboard/mouse you use is setup as the Master.
All the other PC's are setup as slaves.
Once the program is setup on each, you turn the computers on, and once all the background processes have loaded you use your main PC's Keyboard/Mouse to log in, then slide the mouse to the side of the screen onto the desktop of the other. You can set this up so they are to the left, the right, up, down, 3 across and so on.
you log in on each computer. Load up an EVE account on each computer. And use the same mouse/keyboard from your main PC across them all.
For the miners out there, this is how you run 10 Computers with 10 clients.
I used to use this with my 2 desktops and a laptop. I'd have 4 hulks, and an Orca for personal mining ops.
The only thing to remember is that if you play a FPS you will need to temporarily disable Input Director on your main PC while playing those games, otherwise the first time you rotate too far, your cursor will leave the Master PC and go to your Slave PC's desktop.
Input Director
Input Director requires Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), Windows XP (Service Pack 2), Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 2008 or Windows 7. The systems must be networked.
