Could someone please explain in detail the differences between these two sites in the stickies?
Unofficial
vs.
Official
Specifically, I am curious if there is information about corporations in the limited API and why. According to the wiki, a corp data sheet including wallet divisions and possibly corp hangar divisions and wallet values is part of the limited API. However, on the official site, it simply states that the character sheet and skill training is the only information provided. Could someone confirm if corporation data is present in the limited API and if so, to what extent.
Perhaps fixing the API site on EVE is in order?

If the official site was complete we would not need the wiki, right? Being the last one to have updated the wiki page you are linking I feel confident to say that it is correct.

I understand the wiki is likely correct, but why does CCP not update the basic information on their API page about what is included in the API key, specifically the limited key? And why would the "official" site not be kept up to date with this information?

For the same reason they still have not managed to add a subsystems icon and header to the character sheet on the website since Apocrypha went live, for the same reason probably at least half of the content here is out of date, for the same reason this website has the worst forum system and the worst folding menus ever seen with a horribly convoluted structure? There just seems to be noone at CCP employed to do that job?
The devs do their best to communicate the API details via the channels available to them but the static content part of the website does not appear to be one of them.

Limited API reveals:
ALL Characters on the account the api belongs to Current Personal Wallet Balance Corporation Name Alliance Name if applicable Skills and Level
And that's it. It's very limiting and not useful for the better applications out there.

Not quite so. As mentioned above, it also reveals a bit about your corporation: http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Corp_CorporationSheet_XML

Which is a shame. For my app, I wouldn't need sensitive information like POS locations, standings, corp member list. All I need is the "financial stuff" (transactions, journals, market orders, assets). And I do understand that people with high roles in their corp/ally shy away from using such apps, due to the potential information leakage.
/me votes again for a user-defined API key, where you pick what information is exposed by this key, like
- Wallet transactions [x] Personal [ ] Corporation
- Wallet journals [x] Personal [ ] Corporation
- Standings [ ] Personal [ ] Corporation
etc.

CCP haven't and most likely won't do anything like this. There have been attempts to provide this with alternative API servers and so on, but none have ever caught on. A better solution would be something like this combined with OAuth instead of API Keys. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

I really want a proper information access authorization system too. But let's face it, it's not going to happen within the next few years! I'll just be stuck writing cool apps that few dare to use, for fear of political information leakage! Or getting annoyed enough that I don't feel like writing such apps at all. Either one. It's a real problem isn't it? Yep, that's just the way it is.

Edited by: Hel O''Ween on 28/11/2009 11:46:25 Well, there might be hope:

A test server and customizable API keys are on Elerhino's List which is currently stored in his Fenrir. I'm semi-optimistic about getting plenty of time for this in the comming months but plans at CCP are constantly subject to change so I can't promise anything.

[Added] In general, we (=3rd party developers) are facing the problem of being to few. How many 3rd party developers are out there? Perhaps even less than Titan pilots. So, bringing our needs to the attention of CCP is a tedious task. I'm always looking for CSM candidates who have the API on their agenda, but there aren't many either.
To the OP: Sorry for derailing your thread. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |

I don't think the number of developers is the real issue but rather the number of API users which has more than a passing interest in security.
