Hi all,
I'm wondering what is everyone's favorite small ship and why they choose that ship over another. This is all about speed and style for grinding out low-level missions quickly and efficiently for maximizing standings gain.
For me I Have used the Vexor for doing L1 and L2 missions very quickly and easily; this was especially useful in COSMOS. I have recently trained up an Ishkur, and am looking forward to see how it compares. With the upcoming changes to the Caldari Navy Hookbill, and my recently gained ability to fly Caldari assault ships, I am considering what my options might be at that point.
Thoughts? :)
Oh, I liked my Vexor because it was fairly tough, had semi-decent speed with an AB, and +50% hobgoblinII/warriorII eats everything quickly.
-- Quite possibly the nicest person who'd ever want to kill you. |

Caracal. Light missiles absolutely murder frigates, which are the staple of level1 and 2 missions.
So 5 AML racks, AB, 2 hobbys and whatever tank you want, and just kite the room plinking away. Vexor works just like a mini-myrm/domi, but I've never been a fan of drone boats.

Any of the destroyers are really fun for level 1s and quite a few of the level 2s as well.
In levels 1s in particular you can essentially buffer tank your way through since you're just killing things that fast. Fit long-range turrets, damage mods and tracking computers/enhancers and just one-volley (or even half-volley) everything. I've only ever done this with a Coercer but I don't see any reason why the other destroyers wouldn't work too.

AML Navy Caracal, Hands Down the best ship for lv1/2 mission grinding.
Though if i'm in a pimpin' mood, I do occasionally use my Phantasm or Succubus. They're much slower, but it's cruising in style.

I use a Pulse Navy Omen for L1 to L3s.
Mixture of Amarr Navy Multi, Scorch M and 5 T2 light drones wraps everything up pretty quickly, it's also pretty fast and agile to get you around quickly. Close. I'm still convinced the AML Cerb is faster for just pure annihilation. And if you're as lazy as I am you can easily grind L3s in exactly the same setup:

Seconded on the Phantasm. Much more fun.

1st Upgrade = 100% 2nd Upgrade = 83% 3rd Upgrade = 56% 4th Upgrade = 19% 5th Upgrade = 3%
% of original effect.
So your fourth CNBCU is practically worthless.

AML caracal always worked well for my characters - cerb sounds good too but a real luxury for low level unless it is just for the standing grind. A new player can be level 2 capabale in an AML caracal at about 750k-1 million sp - even allowing for a lot of those to be in learning skills

Exactly. It's cap stable and overtanked. What else do you put in the lows on a missile ship? Passive ECCM?
If price is the objection, this actually fits just fine as well:
[Cerberus, L2 murder on the cheap] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Photon Scattering Field II Invulnerability Field II

And yeah, if we're talking L1/L2s you might as well go cheap. Losing 15 DPS just isn't that significant under those circumstances. Getting enough speed to kite near anything and 94.9 KM range matters much more.

Your bay loading accels are worthless though, only t2 would yield a boost above like, 2 dps
so go for hydraulic bay thrusters to make missiles travel faster = less missilez wasted

Vexor with light rails > any Caracal variant when it comes to L1/2s.
Also, was fun doing most of Caldari Cosmos in it, though I fit med blasters for the tougher ones with BS's. Granted I had to switch to Ishtar for L4 Cosmos, but L3's could still be done in a T1 Cruiser. 2nd time around (other char) I used a pair of Ishkurs, worked well that too.
For Amarr cosmos I used Arby for lowlevel and a LazorMyrm for the tougher ones. Worked like a charm it did.

I don't think so... It has less dps, less tank, less range... Besides drones are delayed damages just like missiles.
And wouldn't an AML Tengu blitz even Faster ? Though it have less range than Cerberus, 42km should be enough for most lvl 1/2 missions, and it's faster ( 700m/s with AB)
To the OP : If you want to grind standings, I think lvl3 are better than lvl1/2. And a Nightahwk or Tengu in lvl 3 should be fine.

A long while back I did my lvl 1 en lvl 2 Angel mission grinding in a smartbomb fitted Rupture, fly around with it, aggroing and gathering all the frigates near you and then blasting them.
Probably not the most efficient way, but fun nonetheless.

Yeah. I've used all the destroyers and they work great for Level I missions.
Destroyers work fine for most Level II's as well but ... since I don't know all the missions by heart ... I tend to just run Level II's with my Cruisers.
For the destroyers - each light weapons type has a biggest and next to the biggest weapons type. For example there are the 125mm and 150mm rail guns. You can fit 8 of the smaller weapons but actually get more out of a smaller number (5) of the bigger ones.
For my Caracal I've got two fittings. One has the Assault Missile Launchers and the other Heavy Missile Launchers. If I'm fighting frigates I use the AML's if I'm fighting Cruisers or Sentry Guns I use the HMLs. If I'm fighting both I tend to try and draw the frigates off and kill them first - then come back with the heavy missiles and get the larger stuff.
For some of the harder Level II missions I've used a tandem of a Maller fitted to go in first, get all the agro and tank the rats before an Arbitrator comes in and kills them with it's drone fit. Orbiting vs. Kiting Faction Schools |

The AML cerb is your best bet. Either as the fit posted above or like this:
[Cerberus, AML Cerberus] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
Assault Missile Launcher II, Bloodclaw Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Bloodclaw Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Bloodclaw Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Bloodclaw Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Bloodclaw Light Missile Small Tractor Beam I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
The completely passive fit makes for maximum ease. Just F1 for the missiles, F2 for the AB, and F3 to tractor in the mission specific item (if any).

I like to do 1&2 in a jag or wolf. *g* level 3's I dunno. I feel cruisers being too slow to be fun... or their movement not being worth it in pve. So.. uhm... sleip? yeah, should take care of this allright. After all thats what I used to do missions in before getting me the torpedo-golem-of-doom. I'd be using a mael but it throws me off, that this ship looks so slick and fast and is such a FRICKIN BRICK IN MUD!
1&2 missions: Jag 3 missions: Sleip 4 missions: Golem/Vargur or Mael for the style.

Meh. Looking at it again I'd probably do one of each. The first bay thruster does add a bit of DPS but you're absolutely right about the second one being superfluous at best.
It's still a ridiculous fit and absolute overkill for any L1/L2 you have to grind.

1 Atron, 2 Incursus, Maulus or Imicus, 3 ishkur or Enyo (though my current sniper setup takes ages to kill something and is not very entertaining). When I feel a bit cheeky, I use my Comet in the lower reward l3's, but I sometimes have to bail out. 4 I cannot do yet, but Ishtar or Proteus would be my choices.
I like a bit of speed, I have a heavy myrmi tank breaker (with 2x 1600's) for missions that need that extra bit of attention, but am horrified by its align time every time I use it.
