I gave CCP 5 years to come up with a patch or net-new installation delivery process. They are not capable of doing this. I won't go in to the detils but rest assured I have gone above and beyond in my efforts across the releases going back to RMR.
I'm done. It's over. I cannot stomach it anymore. The fantastic client and game code can no longer make up for the product delivery fiasco. Another promising software project torpedoed by amaturish detailing. Damn pathetic, but no longer my trouble.
Let's just be thankful CCP isn't responsible for delivering software that actually means anything (other than nerdly fantasy - yay great work, you're saving lives.....ehhhh no)

I believe Leeroy is asking for a more reliable Internet - all his previous threads have been dealing with issues downloading EVE Online. Apparently he thinks there's some magic that CCP can do at their end to stop his machine/ISP borking his downloads.
Something like BitTorrent or a download manager might help, by allowing the client to be downloaded over multiple sessions. BitTorrent will also allow error checking to be done on each piece as it's downloaded.

Don't even get me started with this. I've forgotten more about the TCP/IP protocols and P2P than you're likely to ever learn. Bottom line: There is no reason, other than amateur development and sloppy attention to product development and delivery, that CCP could not provide a reliable delivery of its product, yet they accept the current methods and packaging. I'm just tired of lazy mother-effing product teams that live with ****-poor systems, know they can do better, but never do. That, and MMO's are a waste of human life period. The only reason I stuck with EVE was so I could play without playing.
LODE law of MMO's: The value of an MMO is in direct proportion to the amount of time not spent playing it.
Who are the real losers here? Better get ready for that 20 hour gate camp "for the greater good" lol. I got news for ya pal, you ain't leadin' but two things right now, Jack and *hit... ...and Jack left town. |

I really envy people who have such simple problems in life.
If I logged into this game at the end of a typical day I have, and would find that the station I docked in got blowed up by haxor Goons, my pod destroyed and my clone swapped out with a monkey, and then right after finding that out my computer explodes, that would STILL be trivial to me.

I've only been through 3 expansions, soon to be 4, and in that time I've never had a problem with downlaoding and installing. Start client, click "yes" when asked to download and update client, then restart client and logon when it's done.
Guess I'm just smarter at clicking the update button

Hope you change your mind about giving up EVE. Only been playing for 3 months but I really like it so far. If you really are done I can use just about anything still.

That's my whole point. It is trivial, I'm just done. If I gave two bits about this mind-numbing pasttime I wouldn't be posting, and figured someone might use my characters. I don't really care, it was just a minor annoyance when i tried to reinstall. I work with professional software developers where this kind of issue is readily and easily solved, not swept under the rug for years on end. So...they don't get my money anymore, not that money is the issue for me - but it is to them, so if someone else wants to pick up my bill for them to continue on as they are, so be it.
I do sincerely hope the players enjoy playing the game, but, well...MMO's. really? To each their own. I got news for ya pal, you ain't leadin' but two things right now, Jack and *hit... ...and Jack left town. |

Yep. And I met a lot of people who loved their AOL and packard bell computers because they never had problems with them.
My last petition in April, i attempted the full download (and the torrent) from every major carrier in the united states - i have access to systems all over the country. All were corrupt 7z's. On the tenth try from my gaming PC it finally worked.
The issue is the packaging more than the delivery method, or more to the point - their choice of both when used together. For these file sizes, there are known do's and don'ts and ways to deliver them properly, reliably, 100% of the time. CCP ignores this because the failure rate is seen as acceptable compared to their perception of the effort (read: cost) to improve the method, which is pathetic because it can all be done in about thirty minutes of coding and like two hours of meetings with the delivery team.
But who cares? right? I sure don't. Secondary Research character is still up for grabs. No strings attached. I got news for ya pal, you ain't leadin' but two things right now, Jack and *hit... ...and Jack left town. |

I'm not mad at CCP, in fact I find their gaming netcode to be quite excellent and have for years explained how EVE is teh hardcorez, and the only MMO worth playing if you're going to get your life sucked out of your backside by playing any MMO. Love the game, in concept. I just don't like MMO's and i like sloppy product development even less.
If I just wantedto take my money away from them i'd cancel my account, but i'm offering my two accounts up for free so someone else can pay in my stead. Money has never been the issue for me.
