ITT: Unreasonable demands.
How is it unreasonable to dictate what features of a program are installed on my own PC, unless there is something to hide i see no reason you couldn't diable features like EVE voice given the client will function without them just fine. Rally Against Evil Site |

How would i need to try harder, just because i have space doesn't mean applications get to abuse it without permission, there is no reason to force people to install stuff they have no intention of using, sure it starts off with 1 feature then its 2 then before you know it you're not using half of the client anymore :P Gamers Asylum Forum Hosting for Gaming Groups and Clans |

Pick one: [sarcasm] * dammit, I only play multiplayer mode of all games, I demand to be able to NOT install the single player campaigns in them to avoid wasting space ! * dammit, I only play half of the singleplayer campaign, I demand to be able to remove the second half and all the multiplayer parts ! [/sarcasm] or if you prefer * dammit, I never get out of <system X> and only play with <texture quality> selected, I demand to be able to uninstall every graphic asset that I am not likely to use !
So yeah, try harder.

Thats not even relevant to the request, i see no need to force players to install X Y or Z if its a feature they are either unable or unwilling to use thats not essential for the client to function correctly and this would be one of them Rally Against Evil Site |

You don't like it? You don't install it.
Where are you forced to play Eve?

I was talking about the voice fonts, make them optional its no skin off CCP's nose to make it optional, other games offer some optional componants that aren't required and unless i'm gonna use them i don't install them so thats not a really valid arguement. Rally Against Evil Site |

Unless part of the code is hard coded into the eve executable, then you're being unreasonable. I doubt CCP would recompile the entire game just to remove a single feature just for you.
Stop derailing the thread by changing the subject. You're not talking about voice fonts, you're talking about removing features from the game that you don't want/agree with. That's not discussing the feature at hand.
*Back on topic* I think eve voice will be great for role players and especially be nice for them in Ambulation. I can also see it being a good feature to use for females who wish to keep their gender a secret, or males using it to pretend to be girls for meta-gaming ultra spy stuff.

That's all well and nice, but what about the lag? We can't have what could even remotely be called a decent engagement involving over 100 pilots because of lag. Cute voice tricks are nice side show distractions, but what about the lag? What in this latest bag of tricks was done to fix the large scale combat problems in the game? I find it very hard to believe that "30,000 subscribers" ( your number above ) think that voice morphing is more important an issue than being able to have a decent fleet fight. What about the lag?

This is purely an RP thing and is kinda cool for the RP'ers I guess. Im not one for pretending to be a girl in any kind of game or any other kind of RP but it does appeal to some and I can imagine that voice chat does break the immersion somewhat.
Also this could open up fantastic new types of scams

Do you really want the guy in charge of eve sound(eve has sound?) to jump over to the server code monkeys cubicle and apply his talents there too? If that happened most of your fleet would permanently dissapear off the grid when you zoomed out a bit.

This is one of the best features in a long time for me.
I want your babies, CCP Casqade.
Makes spying, roleplaying and trolling so much more easy! I had to resort to 3rd party tools for similar effects in the past and can now do it ingame, without most people knowing about this feature once it goes live for even greater effect. ^_^
On a side note: I'd really wish there was infact a "makes it sound more space-shippy" effect with a little space-ship static and combat noise in the background. I'm using a collection of edited mp3s in a soundboard like manner atm while chatting up random people with messages like "[static] under attack [static] Amamake [gun sound] gate [static] [siren-noise] hull damaged. Requesting assistance. Willing to pay [long static]." Yes, I know, it's weird - but it's great fun to see others (aka. the few people using EVE voice) react to it. ._.

I actually love this idea!
While I don't hate my voice, I don't much like it either...
The ability to command fleets sounding like a robot or something would be lovely for the "immersion".
A nice surprise - Thanks CCP.

You want the guy who's mowing the lawn fix your car? Are you mad? Besides, maybe your car needs more than a few new parts. Maybe the engine would have to be rebuilt from scratch to make it go again. Might be a better idea to buy a new one and keep using the old one until the replacement arrives.
Did I really just answer that?....

How do they need to compile it, simple checkbox install or do not install its not that hard ya know, pleasnty of app's let you choose the optional parts to install or not to install and its entirely on topic or it would have been deleted :P Rally Against Evil Site |

Hm I don't know about the exact back story but you're in a pod of goo controlling everything with your thought. So I¦d guess your speech is actually a thought too, which would mean giving it any acoustic form would be no problem anyway - and spaceship shutter sounds would be way inappropriate
I know this is the official way eve is, but I don't follow that school of thought. I'm a 'Clear Skies', ship crew school of thought.

Simple checkbox. Sure. Just one click and it's there. *Snip!* I mean, it's not like the game would then have to check whether feature XYZ is installed and change the UI layout accordingly or disable disfunctional features and dependencies. No. And it's not like any future patch would have to consider optional features? Nono, why would it have to do that? For that matter, nobody would have to update the patcher to support optional features because CCP probabaly already implemented a feature they never thought they'd need. Sure. I mean really, all they have to do is open the installer form, drag&drop a checkbox into it and label it "optimized for cypherous". It's really only a couple of hours to do this and wouldn't have to be coordinated with like 5 different development teams or anything...

I think this is a good idea.
Many people are self conscious about their voice and have difficulty speaking in groups because of this. Some people just plain hate the sound of their voice.
This not only gives people a chance to role play a little, it also gives people an audible buffer between what they say and what others hear.
This was always my understanding of the plan for EVE-Voice during its beta and I'm glad it has finally hit.
