So, say my buddy finds a nice wormhole, and wants me to go explore it with him.
I was told you can turn locations into bookmarks which you can give to other people (or sell on the market).
How is this done exactly? How do you turn the location you have saved into a bookmark? And how does someone who gets that bookmark access it so they can travel to that location?

There are several ways to create bookmarks:
You can right click on an icon in space or in your overview, and select "Bookmark this location" from the menu that pops up. You can right click on the 100% signature in your scanning window, and select "Bookmark this location" from the menu that pops up. You can open your People & Places window to the places tab, and down at the bottom click the button labeled Create New Bookmark.
All of these give you a window in which you can name the bookmark. Once you do, hit OK and the bookmark will appear in your People & Places window. That's how you make them.
Now, as to how you share them, you need to make one or more copies. Click the bookmark in the People & Places window, and drag it to your hangar or cargo hold while holding down the SHIFT key. That will make a copy while leaving the BM for you to use. Do this as many times as necessary. They can then be jettisoned in space for others to pick up, or traded in a station.
After your friends get the traded BMs, they need to open their People & Places window to the places tab, and drag & drop the bookmarks from the hangar/cargo hold to the window, where they'll appear. They are then usable. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Hold down shift and drag and drop them from your "peoples and places" folder to your cargo. Then you can trade them and your friend can then similary drag and drop them from his cargo to his peoples and places folder.

Edited by: Kva Plexcha on 30/11/2009 22:39:55 A location saved, is by definition a bookmark. In the People and Places tab, under "Places" all your created bookmarks are saved.
Find the bookmark you wish to send to your friend.
Use and hold "LeftShift" + left mouse button to drag bookmark to a hangar or cargo bay. "LeftShift" will create a copy of the bookmark. Simply left clicking and drag will remove the bookmark from your list (ie. no copy)
Simply either contract or drop the bookmark voucher in a can and have your buddy retrieve it. He then can add it to his "places" list by simply dragging it to the list (Post Dominion ... as per patch notes ... Pre Dominion you had to drag it to an empty spot on your bookmark list or to a folder on the list)
And thats it.
Corrections and clarifications are always welcome.
Edit ... hm for some reason I didn't see the other replies when I started typing, so I'm repeating info ... oh well

Edited by: Klokvarg on 30/11/2009 23:36:02 One important thing to note about copying bookmarks is that you can only copy (shift+drag) 5 at a time!
So, if you have 13 bookmarks to copy, you'll have to do 5, then 5, then 3.
Don't learn this the hard way!

As bookmarks are basically defined by three sets of solar system coordinates when the bookmark is created, I've always wondered why they have to be made a physical object and then jettisoned in a can to be shared by other players.
Wouldn't Eve-mail be a much more practical way of transferring that information? Even in RL location information is transferred that way, and in Eve you have to package it up like a message in a bottle?
I've never understood why this current unwieldy game mechanic existed in the first place.
