Why is there never post about: EVE destroyed my life?
So the EVE Sever is down for most of the day. I was thinking back on my days playing WOW. I remember when the servers was down people was making hate post about how they could not survive without gameing for almost a hole day!! ^^ And how they have no real life left because WoW made them additive, and they lost there Girlfriends and Jobs. And now Blizz was taking the only thing they had left have away from them (a hole day!!!) by shutting down the server! to upgrade them. Those basteds! (hehe fell the irony)
Anyway my point is why is there no: ôI hate EVE! I lost my Job and Girlfriendö
Come on someone must have been additive to this great game?
Or are EVE players just more mature and can handle bad things in life without escaping into a MMO

EVE requires greater intellectual fortitude than WoW. The kind of QQ gamers that fill the forums with tripe don't last more than 10 minutes in EVE.

I'm sure there are people who have those stories about Eve, but perhaps there is something about the player base that occludes this from happening.
Could also be that skilling up does not = time actually at the computer. "Say, I've got 15 days till Recon 5 is done, why not spend some time with the family?"

You can't really power game EVE, not in the traditional sense. I could try and power game through missions or mining...but then I'd just burn out.
I could spend 16 hours in SWG micro-managing all of my assets setting up vendors and all that other junk but really there is only so much you can do solo and actually come out ahead. I'm sure you could spend 18 hours a day in low sec roaming or 0.0 roaming but in the end you're going to end up behind.
Most things in this game you put in the time then you wait for the results to mature. In other games you put in the time and you get the result.
If you try to power game EVE, you just get burnt out. No amount of powergaming is going to make your skills level faster after a certain point.

Actually... I was thinking more on the lines that none of us actually play eve other than to reset our skill queues every so often.
Most of the other time is spent working offline on putting together ship fits and looking at spreadsheets.
That and forum trolling.

At first my gf was like "why do you play that game all the time?" Then I got her to make a char and play for a while. And for a while we where fighting over my computer to see who was going to get on. Finally I built her a computer and now we both get on together. Now the only thing she gets on me about is spending all our isk on t3 subsystems.

I've played both games, as well as many others, and IMHO the complexity of Eve keeps most of this type of player away. No community is perfect, but I'll take this one over Wow' 40 mill asshats any day.

It's not really about IQ. Smarter people are not necessarily more emotionally fit :P
I think there is less of a chance to get addicted to EVE because requires longer waiting times than WoW. Many projects takes months to come to fruition. In the time that you're waiting for skills to train up or things to complete you are just bound to go and have more of a life. You can't mindlessly bash monsters for hours. PVE in EVE is much less glamorous than it is in WoW.
I have, however, seen a thread written by somebody about 2 years ago who said he lost like 2 or 3 jobs and moved in with his parents to play EVE from their house because he could not overcome his addiction. His thread was about requiring companies to make labels on boxed games they sell in stores that would warn buyers about dangers of game addiction. He said he had no idea about it when he started and it turned out real bad for him.

Edited by: Isurus Paucus on 01/12/2009 18:27:24 It does seem there's a bit less of the raging here than other MMOs, but by reading various posts, you can get a pretty disturbing picture of some people. Eve players may act out less, but there are some posters that appear to be extremely addicted. Some seem completely oblivious to the fact that various components of their personal lives have gone to hell over it.
Seriously, if you've lost a spouse over or changed jobs to accommodate your gaming habits, there might be an issue.

Ohhhhhh to be you! I'm so jealous...my wife doesn't get computer gaming at all, let alone talking to people via vent that I've never met. She has gotten on me about being on to much(even though I'm only on 4-5 hours a week).
Sigh...

I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle. Most, if not all, players hate EVE, but it's an addictive poison to us. This game breeds a special kind of toxic hate that we heartless bastards thrive on. Our satisfaction in this game is by making sure the next guy suffers far worse than we do through any means necessary. When we experience anger and rage, it is one that gives our truly black souls their power. Without it, we cannot consume ourselves with our own pure hatred of everything around us.
EVE players don't need to escape into an MMO to handle bad things in life, we need to escape into an MMO to cause bad things in others' lives. The reason why /b/tards and goons are so prevalent is because EVE Online is the one and only TRUE internet hate machine.

Edited by: Navtiqes on 01/12/2009 18:37:51 Must people playing EVE realize EVE is their life and for it to be destroyed EVE would have to be destroyed.
Must people playing WoW are too young to come to the same conclusion so they get all upset when their irl situation is comes down to a chair, a desk and a monitor. |

Edited by: Rastigan on 01/12/2009 19:30:20 Wow is more of an emotionally addicting game in the way that you cant lose what you've earned, plus Blizzard feeds their little WoW hamsters pellets of encouragement to make them feel proud about themselves, and tries to make everything all happy and shiny.
CCP on the other hand has game mechanics that lets you kill that 5 billion isk complex fit Golem in Motsu. Nothing undocked is 100% safe.
Guess which kind of game caters to the more fragile psyche ?
