My Domination client crashed and went into the void as well.
Really CCP this is a joke. Even Microsoft brings more stable software on the market. You really know how to accomodate paying customers, don't you?

Yeah... I'm thinking I'm going to have to play EVE in Bootcamp for a while.

Oh, the lamentations of the myopic and righteously indignant.

I sympathize, but it is a cruel, unforgiving galaxy, and cynical old bastards like me need our entertainment.
Queued up 10 day skills on all of my alts on Monday, because these things happen--it's nearly impossible to test the client under real world environments and load, and hopefully Mac users will do a better job of representing themselves on Singularity in the future.
I experience the random discos as well, I can usually solve the issue temporarily by nuking my Library/Preferences/Eve Online Preferences directory. This resolves the matter for a while, then it locks again. It's annoying but not a show stopper.
I've had to run "> ps -U username" from the terminal and then "kill -9 procid" to kill the wineserver and EVE processes, because sometimes the process does not fully terminate when the game locks. Even the "force quit" doesn't seem to fully kill the thread.
If you can't remember your username, run "whoami" from the terminal, then "ps -U username" to see the list of processes. Once you kill the thread, if the game doesn't restart, nuke the preferences folder and make sure all of the wineserver and game processes are terminated and try again. If none of this works or you don't know how "kill" works on the command line, google "man kill" for more instructions.
It also helps to empty your trash, because if there is still a thread running on the client the trash won't fully empty, which can indicate that you missed a process. Once all of the client threads are dead and the preferences folder is fully nuked, the game should restart.
If you want to be sneaky, you can log in, set up your preferences the way you like, log out, make a backup copy of your preferences folder, then when you have to nuke it just replace it with a fresh snapshot of the copied directory. Saves you the time of remapping your keys every 20 minutes.
Hope this helps. ---- "The Creed is Greed."

Thanks Lorn, I'll take your recommendations. I've had six "incidents" since Dominion went live. They range from client crashes, to freezes, to server disconnections, to socket errors. All (except the crashes) require a Force Quit. Strangely enough, they all seem to occur when I'm aligning to warp, or warping.
I'm downloading the full client tonight. As I recall, I had to do that last time as well. These things happen.

Mine has also done this with my primary toon however I can still log in with my other toons on the same account. And honestly, you have to be kidding when you suggest a full deletion an install as a temporary fix

Oh, the lamentations of the righteously ignorant. The OSX channel has been abuzz with how abysmally bad the SiSi client was. We ALL knew that Dominion was going to be a cluster-fark of epic proportions for Mac users. We had hoped beyond hope that CCP had an ace up their sleeves and were holding a client with all the fixes rather than repeatedly deploying new builds (which are a PITA to set up on Mac). The Dominion client has been crashy, buggy, and downright unusable on SiSi, and yet CCP plowed ahead with their deployment because they had announced a date they had to meet.
The main problem is the fact that CCP develops this giant beast strictly on PC, and then at the last minute throws it all at Cider hoping that everything doesn't spectacularily explode. This time they lost.
Edit: In the mean time, until this is fixed, I'm only logging in long enough to update my skill queue.

This is not really a big surprise, the lack of participation and late deployment of the test server for mac client inevitably would lead to some large bugs.
We all know that the PC will get first priority. We just need to be patient HOPE for a free month credit (hint hint) for the suffering CCP made us endure because of our self inflicted addiction to this very unique game.
I suggest we send them as much useful information as possible so they can get the major bug fixed first quickly.
So lets be proactive and push useful info with the proper bug protocols on the bug report area
we should be back in 0.0 space in no time.
I enjoyed the 2 hours it worked for me before the similar hangs and connect issues assaulted me. I hope I can find my way out of that WH! Graphic looked really great! too many stars in in WH space IMHO but that is the least of the issues.
you can get the intermittent audio to work if you tap the "esc" key i found.
I will be properly submitting my issues with CCP this evening

EVE has become unplayable on my 8 core Mac Pro (2008, v3.1) with Snow Leopard. Very disappointing. I hope there's the possibility of a fix else my gaming days are over.

I am having the same problem, the game will load to the login. I will login, choose my character and the loading bar will get to the end, but then it just sits there. I get notifications like a skill is trained and a person just got online, but i cannot actually play the game.

For those of you getting crashes, send CCP bug reports with Cider logs. Instructions are here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Mac_Bug_Reporting
I just had a series of crashes while in station and never undocking. If we give them quality bug reports, they can find and fix the problems faster. Consider this an on-going CTA

Seems that 1.01 don't resolve the MAC problems so...
The only solution that you have for MAC is reinstall and reinstall again?
When the MAC client will be functional again?
And please tell to http://www.apple.com/games/ to remove the DOMINION banner cause actually EVE online on MAC is NOT supported

Oh well guess it was not the best time to buy a new Mac, dealing with converting from PC to Mac and this. Never really appreciated just how much Mac users had to put up with, amazed you are still here tbh.
Had most of issues already outlined above, ****ed off that for all intents and purposes will be back to my old lap top. on the other hand can i be arsed.

The workaround is a nice try...
I just deleted all EVE files from my computer and started the download of the new client...
But after 2 minutes and about 200 MB the download fails. Now I can't even play with the corrupted client since I deleted it.
What about fixing the download files from the EVE Server?

I'm trying to be patient and understanding here, but this is starting to become difficult.
2 complete cleanings and re-downloaded clients, 3 preference/cache file deletions, 2 clean drive operations and multiple other attempts have led to no results. The patch today ran fine and Eve worked for exactly 1.5 hours and then it froze, refused to quit and now it hangs up again. I am loathe to once again delete preferences/cache and re-install yet another client, (a process that takes several hours) only to have less than several hours of playing time.
I'm a dedicated Mac player and Eve evangelist, and I am not giving up, but we need some help here guys.

So are there still on going issues? As i was expecting ccp to follow their latest trend of failing miserably with mac patchs i haven't bothered to download any updates as the advice of uninstalling and then downloading a full client just seems like bullsh*t. If any one could give me a polite poke when they have finally sorted it out i would be grateful!

I'm also having the issue where I can select a character, but then it just sits on a black screen and never fully enters the game. Only on my primary toon though, and only on one computer. For some reason, I can log the other toons on fine, and I can log my main on with my other mac.
But... my main reason for replying wasn't to add a "me too." It was to share with the people who are able to get online and have experienced the caps lock problem where once you use caps lock, it stays that way even after turning caps off.
I figured out last night that if you just quit typing for awhile (a minute or two usually), it'll revert to normal before terribly long. You have to quit typing though, if you type at all, it'll stay on caps lock.
Sort of a minor thing, but hopefully it'll save some people a bit of annoyance :) |

* Day 1: Installed patch, was able to run 30-45 minutes at a time -- numerous socket connection errors and game freezes.
* Day 2: Cleared Preferences and local settings cache, did not get the socket connections, but still ended up with game freezes.
* Day 3: There was still some intermittent freezing, so I wiped the whole eve install, and reinstalled the newest client. Then proceeded to run a terminal log instance of the eve app - sure enough, one of the error culprits I was getting was this:
0017:err:memfile:MEMFILE_CreateMemFile Unable to get file size for memory file! {filename = '/Applications/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/EVE/res/audio/832580814.ogg', handle = 1536}
After that, the EVE client pretty much falls apart. After turning off audio it seems much more stable now, albeit I am assuming this is being worked on - for those with similar issues, turning off audio (at least for myself) helped greatly.
Cheers.

I'm not usually the one to complain because I work in the IT industry and know what software can be like...but seriously this has been one of the worst patches to date in regard to stability. Deleting the preferences, that's just rubbish, it takes forever to get everything back to normal, lucky I had the overview export backed up.
All of the freezes I had to far have been in warp, either warping or just popping out of warp at a gate, then bang, total freeze and having to restart the whole computer. This is on a new macbook pro.
Any ETA for a fix CCP?

I'm not usually one to just give up, but after crashing 3 times in an hour this morning, I went out to do stuff, and when I came back I read this thread - so I spent 3 hours downloading the latest client and getting back in game. First thing I get is a chat from one of my corp mates telling me he's already done that, and it didn't fix the problem. So I'm gonna go play WoW until I read here that it's fixed.

Dudes quit all the *****ing about ccp and their mac client issues. to fix not being able to re log in all you do is go to the prefs and delete the whole file. it will clear everything and you ll lose some things, but you ll be able to log in. It ll be fixed soon. You do not have to re install. yes it sucks to have to re join channels and set up your overviews but its survivable. the fix is coming i'm sure There is a lot to Eve and as with every change there is some issues that have to be hammered out.

You have not being playing EvE for long, if you say that.
Losing all your preferences used to be the normal consequence of each patch. Sure you did not have to delete them manually: the patcher did that for you with no warning.
The client is unstable and has been out for less than 4 days, but if you clear your preferences (or restore non corrupted preferences that you have backed up) you can connect. And a lot of the whiners are playing on outdated/unsupported systems. In the past we had several people on fully supported hardware and OS totally unable to play for several days in a row. Repeatedly. Over the course of something like a couple of months or more.
In fact in the past we had issues that prevented pretty much anyone (windows players too) from playing for multiple days.
This definitively does not look like the worst patch ever. Not the best, sure, but ways from being the worst.

I clear my settings folder - completely remove "EVE Online Preferences" under user/Library/Preferences
That works...
CCP, you really should have done better Mac client testing before releasing Dominion

The problem there is that the only testing that makes sense for an MMO is the one you do with several hundreds, possibly thousand, of "testers". That's why ALL the MMO developers heavily rely on the players themselves testing stuff in the "test servers".
EvE client for mac at the time of release of a new patch will never be better until a sufficiently high number of players will be using it to ensure that a few hundreds of them do extensive SiSi testing.

still can't play eve at all since the patch....get opening window and after that disappears nothing happens...can't log in etc. Reinstalled the entire client to no avail. No idea when I'll be able to play again...if it's not fixed I might as well cancel my account, as I'm paying for something I can't use.
