Lead Game Master Arkanon posted a new Dev Blog with his thoughts on macros, the EULA and bans. Just say No to macros!
For those that may wonder about the identities of players perma-banned for macros or metrics, it is CCP's policy to respect the right to privacy of all players, active, former or banned. Actions taken against players will not be discussed with anyone other than the player in question.

If they are moving ore to cans they can't be afk :)
Besides having moderated and developed online games since the early 90's its very very easy to follow macro players as long as you have the correct rights. Oh and the most common theme to track macro cheaters is greed :)

I'm pretty sure that the GMs can tell the difference between someone who's AFK and is just sitting there, and someone who's moving ore to a can and hauling it to a station with all 20 of their accounts.

I remember hearing of someone who stole over 30,ooo units worth of rare ore from some miners using macros. it was damn obvious they were macroing otherwise they would have spoken up.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

( The problem is not being afk and thus not responding, the problem is being afk when your character is performing tasks that would obviously need you to be at the keyboard in order to be done.
In a community game, any action you do to get around the game mechanisms does have a negative impact on the other players experience, even if it is not obvious in each case.
When devs told you that macros are bad for the game, trust them, as they see the big picture much better than we do. )

Ack but what if the player is sat at the keyboard watching the game and/or using the freedom to chat with corp mates and/or people in local and helping to encourage the MMO aspect of MMORPG?
Using a macro doesn't have to mean that the player is afk.
This is kind of a Devil's advocate question but seems a valid one to me. -- (Battle hardened miner)

But I don't understand why the heck Teamspeak and other similar devices are allowed in this game. As it gives those who use it, a great advantage in fleet battles over those who don't. All guides to pvp says that you got to have a teamspeak server. And the teamspeak server really gives those of us that can't speak english natively and that work in a multinational corp/alliance a real disadvantage. Typing is one thing, speaking is another. And I for one, has people around me when I play EVE. So voice communication is out of the question here.

So how do you want to detect me using a TS server then?

We can't. Therefore, I propose CCP mutes all eve players by stapling their mouths shut. To accomodate players' need to survive, CCP should issue free straws, so people can still drink and eat liquified food.

TS does'nt interact with the game itself unlike a macro which does.
