Well now, given an interesting point concerning the shortlisting process and a 'simple' rationale for excluding some nominees from the shortlist has been raised, I will briefly respond to this new matter.
Originally by: Gaven Lok'ri
You know, Cosmopolite, I would think that you of all people would be smart enough to understand that these nominations are based on individuals rather than corporations.
Now, with that in mind, you might just want to take a closer look at the two individual nominated DIA pilots' personal histories for a simpler reason before trying to read that as a snub to the entire corporation.
Oh, I was quite aware of their personal histories, after all I have encountered them both on several occasions, and I must say that I consider them wholly representative of the corporation in question in terms of its character, opportunism and general effectiveness. It grieves me to say this of Koronakesh in particular, whom I once felt had promise, but there it is. Life is full of small tragedies.
That said, I do welcome your suggestion that a simple reason for the failure to shortlist them, aside from the lacklustre role they and their corporation have played in the fortunes of the crusader militia, is to be found in their personal histories. As the good Gabriel Darkefyre suggests, the strong whiff of outlawry in their relatively recent history would seem the logical 'simple reason' to be found here. I thank you for putting me aright on this point and indicating that activities amounting to brigandry and the like are the simplest reason that an otherwise notionally loyal Amarrian capsuleer would not be shortlisted. It does clear the matter up admirably and will surely help everyone's comprehension of the manner in which the shortlist was assembled.
I must say, I am rather looking forward to the final awards themselves. On the evidence of the process to date the citations will make fascinating reading!
Incidentally, Lok'ri, do you fish?

I can't help but find some sort of morbid curiosity in this. If you'd be so kind as to indulge me, Cosmopolite, you may contact me via fluid router so we don't derail this too much.

Originally by: Graelyn It seems to be an assumption by Matari and Fraction pilots that DIA aspires to be goodly and respectable, rising to the standards of this award.
Silly mouthbreathers.
On the contrary, we are under no such illusions. PIE Inc. sets the standards for their own Amarrian Loyalist of the Year Award, therefore it can easily be inferred, as the shortlist was not filled, that any Nominees that didn't make the shortlist did not reach the Standards as internally set by PIE Inc.
However, as these standards are not publically known we can merely speculate as to reasons for certain persons not being on the list. I'm pretty certain that members of PIE will not come forward to either Confirm or Deny any reasons so speculated. ---------------

I am heartened that PIE is taking a stance against piracy, both with No.Mercy and DIA. Bravo, PIE.
That said, I believe that this thread would be better served by a discussion of those pilots who actually were nominated, rather than focusing on those who weren't.
From my perspective, if spilling free blood in the service of an imperialist hegemony is considered worthy of honor, then Nephilim Xeno certainly qualifies.

Firstly, Congratulations to all pilots nominated, and to those 8 who earned the second round. May Strength and Honor always guide you.
On a personal note, It is interesting that no matter who PIE would pick to go on to the next round, someone from our opponents would complain about it. I would understand if it was out of jealousy, but some of these comments are, unfortunately, rather spiteful. Can we please keep this from turning into yet another debate about who is right and who is not... Give these pilots a moment of respect, even if they are an enemy, or perhaps someone sitting in your finalist spot - they deserve some.

We celebrate the overwhelming successes of our honoured allies in the Caldari State and welcome their assistance. But as you know, the answer is no. There is another election going on for Caldari corp of the year, should you be interested. -----

Well, I could hold a long debate with you, but I have a better idea:
If you read the first entry in this topic you will see the specifics, and they do not exclude non-Amarrians for anything but the title of Amarrian of the year. You don't have to take my word, you can easily find the answers yourself.
But the list for servant of the year are all none Amarrians and there are Amarrian in the Caldari Militia.

Any Amarrian is eligible for nomination as Amarrian Capsuleer of the Year, regardless of affiliation. Amongst this year's nominees were members of both Star Fraction and the TLF. However, they did not make it onto the shortlist for what I imagine are obvious reasons.
So in theory, yes it would be possible for an Amarrian fighting with the State Protectorate to be nominated for the Amarrian Capsuleer of the Year.

Thank you for the clarification Mr Blake.
From an outside observers point of view;
Recent events clearly mark the turning of the tide in the Minmatar/Amarr theater of war in Empire's favor. PIE pilots have been among the most vocal in their celebrations.
However, pilots on the your current short list have not responded kindly to the recent developments. In fact, one hears 1st Praetorian Guard has with drawn from Metropolis region in protest. This is 2 out of 4 on the current short list from Amarrian Capsuleer of the Year.
One also observes most of the system capture fleets are lead by Garst Tyrell a name recently removed from your list of consideration.
This years award would seem empty of meaning if true contributors to the Empire's cause were left out.

The award is for the work and dedication for all the year not just the last week or so.

Well, he does lead the blobs a lot but not fleets that capture systems.

Like who ?
If you talking of Tyrell in is quite likely he wouldn't of been on the short list even if he not go wardeccing random industrial corps just to bankroll his personal vendetta against SF.
As Pie members aren't in the running as such the first half of the yeat what he did has got to be forgotten.
Then he basically ran blobs against the mattar for a month and for the rest of the year got caught up in either picking on industrial corps or fighting SF.

Mrs. Widow,
I thank you for correcting my mistaken impression that Garst Tyrell lead the reclamation fleets. As I stated, I am just an outside observer.
I gather you do not approve of changing the list at this time. However, my question remain unanswered by PIE representative.
Will there be a change to the current list?
I understand there may be political factor involved. However, in the interested of documenting the current conflict, I feel PIE's decision to include key pilots to the list for the wider PIE membership to vote on would document the current development of significance. Should they chose to let this go and the Republic recovers the lost systems, we may not remember the key player in accelerating the action in the current conflict years down the road.

I see no need to change the shortlists to take into account events which may have happened since they were compiled.
Pilots who have excelled in service to the Empire since the closure of nominations will of course be eligible for next year's awards.

TYVM, but at this time, I do not truly believe I deserve this honor. TBH, the work we have done building FCON, and supporting Providence and CVA, and now becoming Holders ourselves, has been focused more on support of our friends and allies, and establishing a strong republican alliance with an ethical orientation and mission.
Our assistance to the Empire has been indirect, We are staunch supportes of CVA and Project Deliverence, and of NRDS and building a corner of the glaxay that is not ruled by terror and lawlessness, and as such, our contribution to the Empire and the Empress has been indirect.
Truly, I firmly believe that LoneWolfNight has done far more that I, or FCON, has done in the past year, and I wish to stand down from consideration for this honor
