Edited by: Vikarion on 02/12/2009 19:52:33 If you want to understand Eve RP and the factions, I suggest taking the TEA book with a grain of salt...and then the whole salt-shaker after that.
TonyG isn't a terrible writer, but he's so biased towards the Gallente and determined to make them look good that he comes off as a moralist trying to preach the virtues of western (space) democracy in a book. There's no effort whatsoever in that thing to maintain the morally gray outlook that the other writers in Eve have tried to build. Heck, to me, it looks more like it was intended as a deathblow to Amarrian and Caldari RPers.
It's a testament to the strength of Amarr and Caldari RP that they are doing as well as they are right now.
No one in Eve is all good or all evil, though some are certainly more so.
For example, to paint the Caldari as simply a warlike race (as TonyG would have you think) intent on destroying the Federation for kicks ignores the long history of abuse they and others suffered at the hands of the Gallente. The Gallente are cultural imperialists, and when the Caldari tried to secede to preserve that culture, the Gallente attempted genocide against them. In addition, the Gallente also exiled those who sympathized with them (the Syndicate) and refused to even let them settle on planets.
After the war, the Gallente corporations competed with the Caldari Mega-corps, but the Gallente were subsidized by the Federation government. In addition, they made every effort to stimulate rebellions and etc. in the State while exporting their values and ideas as much as possible. So, the Caldari have some very legitimate grievances.
I suggest reading the following: Caldari secession, pt. 1 Caldari secession, pt. 2 Caldari secession, pt. 3 State Factionalism Tomorrow a Dream The Ever-Turning Wheels
The same goes for the Amarr - on one hand, they have been capable of vicious acts. On the other hand, they've also been capable of truly humanitarian acts. I'm not the best to ask about such things, you should probably contact Archbishop or Rodj Blake, of PIE.
There are a few chrons, however: Heideran get the Aidonis The Speaker of Truths All these wayward children A man of values and faith.
In conclusion, we in the Caldari and Amarr RP community have spent a long, difficult amount of time trying to reverse that Gallente-propaganda-like book TonyG wrote. If he hadn't been contradicted in his OOC biases by other prime fiction, it's likely that most of us would have had our enjoyment of Eve radically diminished. One of the things that makes Eve such an interesting universe is that is is nuanced; painted in shades of gray. And none of the empires has a monopoly or surfeit of morality.

Originally by: Gottii I cant remember who said it, but I remember a quote that went "real life is not about the good guys verus the bad guys, its about the bad guys verus the worse guys"
In this case, the Caldari and the Amarr are the worse guys...
According to whom? You?
