What do you all think now the Gallante Federation is no longer a democracy with the new president? The Elites not allowed to vote. I have yet to meet a single Elite member of the federation who was allowed to vote. The federation is no longer a democracy it's a dictatorship. But worse of all where is the outrage! Where are all the protests?

Maybe because the Elite are not considered part of the population since they are not really "under the jurisdiction" of the president either way so they also have no place choosing him.

Was just trying to put a roleplay spin on the post. Well if you don't like role-play. What do you think of the appealing way CCP handled the election event? Zero in game story, zero in game voting or ways for players to take part. Basically most players have no idea we have a new president as there is no in game knowledge. Something like this should not be one small post on a website. Even the Caldari change of power was dont semi decently at lest players know about that change in power. But the Gallante get a small post with no in game event.
It's a shame Eve has such a weak in game story one when it could be so much more. CCP really need to get someone new in charge of the story and make a decent ingame story.

It's because the NPCs aren't actually people playing the game. The REAL stories arise from what YOU do in-game. If you spend all day complaining on the forum, obviously your in-game story is going to be really crap.
If you want to read about an election in a democracy, you need to go out there and find a corp or empire (alliance) operating as a democracy, then you won't need to rely on CCP's "EVE for beginners that haven't found a corporation yet" storylines that pop up on the login screen.
Have a nice day!

In game events (storyline wise) which could be influenced by the player base where killed of a long time ago, by said player base. Talk about shooting in your own foot.
Would be nice though to have it back in some sort of form especially since it still, resonates around, look at the bottom of the 'when MMO's imitate live' in the first paragraph.

Democracy doesn't exist, even in the real world, you are just given a choice of dictator, until they get rid of representative government there will be no true democracy.
having said that, how does it affect game play?...head on over to RP forum for that kind of fun :)

Gallente attack caldari, caldari win. Lots of "news". Intergallictic summit subforum is on teh flames.
Completely nothing changes in-game. 98% of people are unaware of these events, that exists only on paper(electronic in this case).

No taxation without representation.
The NPC corp players should at least have been able to vote. It is arguable that those in corporations which have no legal ties to the Federation should not have control over Federation policy, which would bar player corps not involved in Faction Warfare.
And as to why... The stories created in-game, the dramas across the galaxy only make sense in context. The story that CCP create behind the game provide that context. How legendary is "I was playing a game and I pressed a button..."? --

Julius Rigel said " It's because the NPCs aren't actually people playing the game. The REAL stories arise from what YOU do in-game. If you spend all day complaining on the forum, obviously your in-game story is going to be really crap." The real stories as you put it used to impact the NPC's. How can the player have real storeys when they are restricted from it? In the past it was the player's story that determined the NPC story. Now the players have no impact on the NPC story.
A good game should have player driven stories and the players should also be part of the NPC storyline. Players should feel like they are part of the world. The world should not be moving along with the players feeling they are a separate part of it with no impact on it.
In the past it was the player that drove the story; it was the player who impacted what happened in the world. now it's all NPC choose what impacts the world, NPC's choose the story with the player interaction removed. Removeing player interaction has made the story weaker and its worse for the players.

Yes, bringing back those events would add to the game; albeit the post-event conspiracy-theory forum threads alledging favouritism towards whoever got to win when there was something nice up for grabs (e.g that Mothership CCP gave away when they first came in) must have given the customer relations department a bit of hassle.
It was not the player-base that killed the last Gallente election event though, it was CCP who pulled the plug on that as they either did not wish or were unable to allocate the resources necessary to continue the event after the first round. I know, I was in a Corp that qualified from the first stage and were all set for the "Summer of Fun" CCP said was going to follow.

That's why only the Gallente vote.
AS someone wrote, there are a couple of thousand pod pilots and a bazillion "mormal" gallenteans. Even if the gallentean pod pilots would have been able to vote, CCP could have made the outcome the way they want the storyline to proceeed, anyways.
Sure, it would have been nice for the roleplayers to have a (false) feeling of beeing involved, but then again, only the gallentean ones.
So in the end, the effort to let only a small part of the playerbase vote with no influence at the outcome just isn't worth it for CCP. Simple as that.

Abrazzar said "Yet, they only have one vote in the election." They influence more than one vote. Capsuleers have a lot of power behind them. Last time it was the Capsuleers backing that caused the last President to win. Due to status and money many people would follow what the capsuleers say. A pod pilot with 1000's or 10,000's or more followers is more then one vote.
Abrazzar said "It was democracy. Capsuleers are just a insignificant minority voting vise." Being a minority isn't the point, not letting the Elite vote is against everything the Gallente stand for. According to the lore it's not something that would happen.

I want some insanely difficult L5 epic arc MILITIA-ONLY missions where one of the final tree options (the most difficult one, obviously) is assasination of the enemy empire leader (would have to be done in enemy highsec to pile up on the difficulty) with absolutely no reward whatsoever except having the enemy leader assasinated (so most people would simply choose one of the easier, more rewarding alternatives most of the time)

CCP stopped running in-game events a long time ago, because it didn't work out.
CCP has run elections before where the players did not get to vote.

Most people see pod pilots as crazy megalomanics not caring about the commoner. And even with hundred of thousands of "followers" I imagine the capsulers wouldn't make a dent in the overall gallentean poplation when it comes to votes.

Yet all the evidence shows they make a massive difference. Every time the capsulers got involved in the past they had a large amount of vote pulling power.
Alexeph Stoekai said "Pottsey, how many times do I have to explain this? CCP stopped running in-game events a long time ago, because it didn't work out." Yet they still managed to do the Caldari power changing decently. They still managed to make a difference in game. They still managed to do it so a large amount of the player base knows about the change. None of which happened with the Gallante power change. They might have stoped running in game player events, but that does not mean they cannot have in game events that are not to do with the player directly.
Nika Dekaia said "It's CCPs game, they will form the storyline the way they see fit. It's a phase of transition for the Gallente Federation. CCP has a plan where the storyline will go and I'm sure it will at one point in the future be again a true democracy." Transitions are fine when done in a sensible way. CCP are in charge of the storyline but they have to following their own world rules. You cannot chop and change the story on a whim as you feel like it without destroying the story. This is just what CCP have been doing. What use is a story when one day the Federation will do anything to keep freewill and personable rights, then at a whim of CCP the next day whole sections of the Federation lose all rights for no apparent reason without anyone flattering an eye lid. Yet all lore says this would cause massive riots. Transitions are fine, the way the Frontier worlds lost there right to vote now that makes sense. Transitions have to flow and make sense.
If the Gallante elections happened in real life it would be something like this. England is having a vote for a new government. Some laws just came out everyone up in the North part of England is no longer allowed to vote for the new government. Voting day appears. By the way everyone in the Elite class is not allowed to vote either. All the people are ok with this, the Elite don't care and the people don't care about restricted voting. Like that would ever happen! at the very least there would be people complaining. CCP described the Gallente Federation in a way that striping personally rights like voting would cause massive riots and complaining by the people. Then they go and strip away personally rights and voting and nothing happens. That's not transition that's extremely bad story writing.
