Since the war began, thousands of crewmen of both the Federation Navy and the Federal Defence Union have died for the protection of countless worlds from conquest by the Caldari State. Even though, in the end, we were no match for the size and efficiency of the State Protectorate, hundreds still continue to die in a bold effort to reclaim the systems from the grip of undemocratic, corporate rule. In fact, I imagine more people have died in this defence than people have in so-called "Federal neglect" of the Placid region. Ironic, isn't it?
However, despite this mass loss of life in these brave endeavours, groups like the Intaki Liberation Front will continue to lobby and complain about their situation, instead of having the courage to pick up a weapon, and fight against the very reason their situation has deteriorated further. Should this lack of respect for such mass loss of life be a reason to abandon the Placid Intaki as ungrateful and selfish?
Of course not.
The right to free speech and demonstration is a basic liberty of this Federation. To actively work against the Intaki Liberation Front, especially that they have not committed any act of active treason, is no less than the suppression of a free voice in this country. Just because we do not agree with them does not mean we can use our power as capsuleers to attempt to silence this voice. Many citizens in the core disagree with this war, but just because they are not as loud as capsuleers like the ILF, does that mean we should stop fighting? No. Soldiers fight regardless of what people say; soldiers fight because that is what needs to be done. Lest we forget, the majority of the Intaki still want to remain with the Federation, and that should be more than enough to go on should these thoughts pass through your head.
So, while the secessionist Intaki will cry for their situation, we will die for it. In the end, who falls for the nobler goal? And even then, does it really matter? Soldiers are not politicians, we are guardians of our people; all free spirits that fall under the banner of this flag, regardless of petty, unimportant issues like ethnic origin. While the current government may not have a legal mandate to rule over those occupied territories, this does not stop what needs to be done.
For Intaki! For Placid! For the Federation!

I can see your points but these are naturally viewed through the lense of your affiliations and cultural upbringing.
While i as a racial intaki would prefer seeing Intaki still a part of the Federation problem as i see it is why they (as in the Intaki world population) would see that as good. Lets face it, while the situation might be worse at the moment it was plenty bad enough for a long time before the war erupted.
Then we also have the problem of racial intaki and cultural intaki. As a race most Intaki dwell everywhere in the Federation nowadays and vast majority of those are culturally more gallente than intaki now and really do not seem to care or think much about the homeworld. I am myself an example of this. My ancestors on both sides left Intaki generations ago and as far as i know we have no relations on the homeworld nor any real attachment except some historylessons during our early education.
Also, i find it strange that you state that "groups like the Intaki Liberation Front will continue to lobby and complain about their situation, instead of having the courage to pick up a weapon, and fight against the very reason their situation has deteriorated further".
Continuing that reasoning those groups should have taken up arms long ago and before the war or perhaps even better backstabbed the Federation as soon as the war erupted. Instead they have choosen to walk a far harder path, knifeedging between two powers in an attempt to keep to their none violence policy. Personally i find it a wonder they have not joined the State Milita as on the main they have treated them far better than the FDU have.
Then again my views are coloured by my mercenary nature which so far have made me work mostly for caldari megacorps.

Well, this certainly is one gem of a quote. It's almost as if you're saying that a soldier can only pay respects to the orders of his individual conscience, Mr. Inhonores.
Taken a little further, this rationale would essentially give the military authority over all forms of democracy and individual choice - is that really what the Federation stands for these days?

The Caldari were not the ones causing problems in Placid, it was the pirates. Pirates that ILF crewman have fought against, and have died fighting. How dare you accuse them of being apathetic cowards, and how dare you accuse anyone of disrespecting your dead soldiers when you down play the loss of innocent lives, not soldiers, at the hands of outlaws in the Placid region. You are a two faced moron who will talk of friendship one day, and spout slanderous **** on the Summit the next day, and it is incredibly frustrating to be lectured by someone like you.

You misunderstand the statement.
It is the duty of soldiers in a democracy to follow the orders of the elected civilian leaders, regardless of politics. Military leaders hopefully get to inform the civilian leadership about how their decisions will affect the military, but in the end we is sworn to defend the Constitution and the people of the Federation through the office of the President and Senate.
Some question the Constitutionality of the recent Presidential election, including soldiers; however soldiers do not make these decisions, those decisions are left to the Supreme Court. Until such a time as the Supreme Court (or Constitutional convention) finds the law unconstitutional, the soldier is sworn to uphold it.
There is however the opportunity to make that law mute.
Despite potential demonization at the hands of core media outlets; the soldier will continue to serve the Constitution of the Federation.

Wrong. That is perhaps the simplist way of putting my response.
I fight for my people, but also for all the other races that have been given freedom to exist by the Federation.
That includes the Intaki, believe it or not. You dare to think otherwise, to make careless broad assumptions about the Union, about the Guard.
We fight for an identity. Using our combined national might to do whatever we can to find a haven for ourselves and those that choose the infinite path.

I 'dare'? Save it, federalist... judging by the occupancy data across the Caldari-Gallente front, it seems your path is quite finite indeed. The sooner the planetside government on Intaki Prime realizes that joining the Federation was a bad bet, the sooner they'll be able to start looking seriously at what options they have available to them to facilitate secession and secure some means of defense for their traditional home as it is so abundantly clear that the Gallente Federation possesses neither the power, will nor even the inclination to do so for them.

M. Vermanek - While the ILF may have battled gallantly against pirates before the outbreak of war, pirates were never responsible for the disenfranchisment of the Intaki system, nor did they ever have any tangible effects on the two Intaki worlds there. It has always been one of the richest systems in the Federation, and recent events may have changed this.
Havohej - You are an ethnic Matari. You are not an Intaki, nor a citizen of the Gallente Federation. Your opinion, therefore, carries little to no weight. You are no different from the Gallente cultural imperialists who saught to meddle in affairs that were not any of our business.

Little to no weight. Much like the opinions of the Intaki who were stripped of their right to vote for no reason other than the fact that the Gallente Federation and its paper militia couldn't be bothered to defend Intaki from occupation by State Protectorate forces?
If so, you're absolutely correct. and every Intaki following this situation as it develops knows it. The fact is, there is a sort of spiritual and philosophical kinship between the Intaki and the Thukker tribe... indeed, the Minmatar as a whole. While the Caldari-Gallente conflict is not of direct interest to the Star Fraction, this evening I will be authorizing Director Alondra - who does happen to be an Intaki capsuleer - to seek conference with Saxon Hawke to see if there is anything that Du'uma Fiisi Integrated Astrometrics can do at the corporate level to assist the Intaki Liberation Front in their efforts on behalf of the Intaki without shirking our duties to -SF- objectives on the Minmatar-Amarr front.

While I wouldn't exactly call Seriphyn and I friends per se, we have a past association and something in common.
We are soldiers. We have taken a stand to defend our people from those who would bring chaos and death to them. Even though we stand at opposite sides of a line in space, we toe that line. You and the rest of the Fraction are just that. Fractions. You are not whole in the eyes of true warriors.
I respond to Seriphyn's post, because as a kindred spirit, I see his issues with Intaki Liberation Front as being similar to mine with your merry band of pirates. Terrorist groups like yours are enemies to all civilized beings. If you were to actually be a part of the military, then we could talk on equal grounds.
Star Fraction no longer has any credibility. Do stop embarrassing yourselves by yapping at your betters.
Now then...
Seriphyn, you may want to look into changing your stance. We Amarr have a reputation of being a bit heavy-handed and strict when it comes to issues of ôFreedom of Speech.ö YouĈd probably be surprised as to how free our people actually are-a lot more free than you might think. In times of war however, a voice against the military is a voice of sedition. Actions that give aid and comfort to the enemy are acts of treason. IĈm sure your people would not mind if you were to drop a hammer on those who continue to cause the deaths of your soldiers. You need to keep your people safe and in war, there is no nice way of doing that. As IĈm sure you know!
Be the bastard you need to be old friend. History will paint you in a better light.
And please tell Vernaja Idama that there is an Amarr that is far different than the ones on Republic holos.

When I was a boy, my grandfather was fond of the expression "Figures don't lie, but liars figure." Not that I'm calling you a liar, but in the three years since the founding of the ILF we have mourned the loss of many thousands of brave Intaki crewman who died serving on Intaki vessels in service to the Intaki people.
Had the Federation Navy done its job of protecting the Intaki as members of the Federation, then those lives would have been spared and perhaps Intaki would not have been drug into the middle of the factional conflict.
Originally by: Seriphyn Inhonores However, despite this mass loss of life in these brave endeavours, groups like the Intaki Liberation Front will continue to lobby and complain about their situation, instead of having the courage to pick up a weapon, and fight against the very reason their situation has deteriorated further.
As I stated, the factional warfare only brought more misery to an already suffering people. Everyone who ever joined a militia is a party to that sin. A wise Idama once posed the question: "What if they threw a war and nobody came?" If only we could see the answer to that.
Originally by: Seriphyn Inhonores Lest we forget, the majority of the Intaki still want to remain with the Federation, and that should be more than enough to go on should these thoughts pass through your head.
Once again, I must question your figures. A "majority" of which Intaki? The Intaki that have never seen their homeworld? Who don't know their own native language? Or do you count the Syndicate exiles or Mordu's Intaki in that number? What about the disenfranchised Intaki of Placid? I believe, Mr. Inhonores, that your polling sample is flawed.
Originally by: Seriphyn Inhonores So, while the secessionist Intaki will cry for their situation, we will die for it.
Of all the smug, pompous nonsense to spill from your mouth, this is among the most vile I've had the displeasure to hear. ILF crews live in low security space. We don't have war targets, but every day is a battle for survival for us and statements like yours do more to dishonor the memory of Intaki's lost sons and daughters than you could possibly know.
Originally by: Seriphyn Inhonores While the current government may not have a legal mandate to rule over those occupied territories, this does not stop what needs to be done.
The lack of a mandate to rule shows clearly what needs to be done. It is time for the Intaki people to reclaim the mantle of leadership for themselves; to stand up and take back the inherent right to self-determination.
Originally by: Vremaja Idama "As i have said before, i believe that the best road to prosperity for the Intaki people as a whole is within the Federation. Standing alone, we would be a very small fish in a very large pond. We dont have the advantage of many years of military build up that the Caldari had at the time of their breakaway, The Intaki of Placid do not even have a standing navy. The Caldari, for all their good qualities, are quite bound by their own culture, and do not take readily to outsiders within their borders. The Minmatar Republic can barely retain its own people who flock to the Federation, and the Amarr. I wont even start on how they would treat us"
These words are cautionary, but were made at a different time, in a different era. Not every quote of every learned man is designed to be inscribed in stone to stand fixed for all time. And, in case you have forgotten, the ILF outlined a plan for the creation of an Intaki Sovereignty that addressed most if not all of the wise Idama's concerns.
So, with all due respect, Mr. Inhonores, if you are truly concerned for the thousands of lives of your FDU pilots and crew, save them by kindly packing up and leaving the Intaki Sovereignty.

You can't reason with a man and kick sand in his face at the same time. It seems you are determined to alienate any allies you might've had.
As for the wisdom of Vremaja Idama, those comments were made some time ago in the face of a very different political landscape. Having spoken to him personally during that episode, I wonder what he might make of the current situation. Reform had not occured within the State, Roden had not led a protracted coup against Foiritan, and wide swathes of Essence, Placid and Verge Vendor were still under the tenuous authority of a Federal administration all-too unconcerned with the plight of backwater systems and their uncultured inhabitants.
The Federation now has to ask itself some very tough questions. Given the political instability, and the decision to exempt certain regions from the democratic process, are the bureaucrats in Villore really capable of looking after these peoples' needs?
Or has the torch passed, in its own way, to those more qualified?

Here you have one that is.
Originally by: Josh Vermanek The Caldari were not the ones causing problems in Placid, it was the pirates.
You mean that the Caldari never caused problems for the ILF, and the pirates did.
The pirates never caused much problems to the Intaki or other people in Placid living planetside. The Caldari blockade does. Your organization may try to band-aid the situation by dropping off aid relief, but the gaping wound below that bandage is the continuous Caldari occupation of the system.
Keep in mind that the Caldari occupation also made it impossible to have secure elections within these regions, that even something simple like news is hard to come by planetside due to Caldari control and censoring of the communication networks.
Originally by: BelovarReborn You do not want to try and use Ida or the Idama against us you Federation bootlick.
He does not have to. This idama here considers the ILF to be misguided, however.
Originally by: Havohej Little to no weight. Much like the opinions of the Intaki who were stripped of their right to vote for no reason other than the fact that the Gallente Federation and its paper militia couldn't be bothered to defend Intaki from occupation by State Protectorate forces?
Couldn't be bothered? Get your facts straight. I was there when the Caldari invaded the Intaki system, and there were dozens of capsuleers attempting to hold them off for weeks. To my surprise, the ILF actively assisted the Caldari and a few of their radical members even attacked the FDU while they attempted to defend military installations in the Intaki system. Every time a tactical opportunity presented itself, these radical members contacted the State Protectorate, who soon arrived to raid military installations, with these ILF members assisting them and firing on FDU vessels trying to protect the Intaki people.
Yes, I was shot at and even had ships destroyed and Intaki crewmembers killed by these Caldari-loving terrorists, for the sole reason of attempting to defend my people against oppression. It seems to me that the ILF wants the Intaki people to suffer, so they are malleable their own selfish/Caldari political agenda and appear as heroes by dropping off a few canisters of food every week.
Planetside, the situation is pretty much the same. The vast majority of Intaki people wish to remain with the Federation, but violent noisy pro-Caldari Intaki are using the situation to further their own agenda, and intimidate and even go as far as murdering people that oppose them. I know this, because I had to evacuate my friends and distant family from Intaki and relocate them to sovereign space held by the Sisters of EVE, because they were intimidated and threatened due to my well-known involvement with the FDU. The daughter from one of my friends was even assaulted and beaten to the point of needing urgent medical care, when the bookstore she worked in got plundered by secessionist rioters.
If the Intaki ever cede from the Federation, it is not because the majority of the polulation wishes it. It is because the majority of the population would have fled and abandoned their homeworld after the Caldari and their sympathizers robbed them of their liberties and securities. ---
