OK, relative NOOB and I've now been blown up twice by pirates in 0.4s who MWD round me so I can't hit them with missiles (tried with havoc and thunderbolts this morning and got killed!). I'm not out looking for these guys, just NPC ing. Is there a way to defeat or put them off using for example an Osprey with heavy missiles and slowing them down using a webber (or whatever they are called). Most of their ships are so small and frail that one hit from a thunderbolt would probably fold them.
any suggestions?

maybe a mid size energy Neutraliser and a webber? Trouble is I think the warp scramblers work over like 20k whereas the webber and neutralisers are more like 10->15k. Surely they would never come close enough unless they were dumb

they woulkd have to get close to scramble you as they dont have cap for MWD and 20k scrambler so just pop in a web and a scrambler.
If there in a ceptor will take a few heavy misisles to kill em but scrambler will stop em going anywhere along with the web 
Also dunno what the drone bay is like on the osprey but pack it full of light scout drones althought they do pis poor damage in small numbers most frigates/ceptors pilots seem to run when you launch even a mining drone

If you can fit a medium nosferatu that would rock, but the grid on the Osprey does not look all that hot, not sure if it would fit. Additionally, the Osprey apparently has 400 of drone bay, fill that up 2 medium drones and 4 light drones (for example). Drones are frigate-killing goodness. :)
Most likely they will just warp away when webbed, but at least you'll stay safe. Of course, if you want to be evil you can fit a scrambler along with the webber and fry them.
...and yes, frigates will almost certainly be using the 7.5km range scrambler, not the 20km one (for cap reasons). So if they want to scramble you they *will* be in web range.

actually, 20km scram and mwd fits and runs easily on quite a few frigs, drones are the only solution for long range scramblers |

thanks guys, had it full insured so I think I'll switch to a caracal with a warp stab, a scrambler, a webber and heavy missiles. Plus 1 medium and 2 small drones and if I can get it to fit either a nos or an energy neutrliser.
Either that or another Osprey with as above but more drones

use the nos the nuetralizer is gonna leave you out of cap and out of luck.

agree with nos over neut, unless you fit a cap booster, then (assuming everything else fits on) you will be coolio

My personal suggestion is to dump the Osprey if you are going to continue to NPC. It is only good for mining. You mentioned a Caracal...excellent NPC setup turns into an adequate PvP setup, so your chances of survival are much higher. It sounds like your missile skills are adequate, just make sure you take advantage of the Caracal bonusses and you should be good to go until you can pilot something better.

Put the drone bay and mid-slots to good use, try out the Hammerhead medium combat drones, and use a Webifier to slow 'em down.

Med/Large Nosferatu's, or any size energy neutralizer would help. 1 named small energy neutralizer will hurt a frig pilot who doesn't have good skills...all you need to do is make his MWD turn off for a few seconds and give your missles enough time to catch him. Webbers are also a good idea.

ANd if ur jsut an average newb get the caracal, that will reallyy mess those pirates up.... web them and mwd to them and just blow them using 5 X 150 dmg missles, plus u can use them fof missles, if ur jammed ;)
