So I've just recently started making heavy use of the contact list and watch list. I've encountered some rather annoying problems.
- Problem: Presently when I'm setting up to watch war targets, I have to create label groups for each corp so that I can see how many of each are online. I could avoid this entirely if my contact list provided me with the proper information.
Solution: Display corp/alliance information in the list. it's readily-available information, not displaying simply forces me to click more. Death to clicking.
- Problem: Speaking of labels, I can't find a good way to add a list of characters to my contacts and apply a label to them other than selecting them out of my list one at a time after they've been added. It's terribly inefficient.
Solution: Perhaps add a "recently added" section to make it easier for players to grab a list of players and drop them into a label group.
- Problem: If I select a group of contacts and want to change their standings in bulk, they lose all labels and are removed from the watch list. I can only guess that this is a result of the system actually deleting and recreating the contacts rather than editing them.
Solution: Don't do that. Bulk editing should not remove contacts from labels or watch lists.
- Problem: It's currently not possible to add more than one character to the watch list at a time. For example, if I CTRL+click five names in my contact list and edit them, I do not have the option to put them on the watch list.
Solution: Add the "add to watch list" and "send notification" options to the multiple edit interface.
- Problem: It's difficult to share contacts with other players. For example, if I create a watch list for a 50-man corp today, I'd have to drag all 50 of those character links into an eve-mail and send them to anyone else who needs to build a contact list on them. From there, each player would have to click all 50 names and add them to contacts. That can add up to thousands of unnecessary clicks.
Solution: This is the biggest proposed change I have here. I'd like for labels to be treated as groups which can be linked in the same way characters currently are. Allow one person to build a proper group, eve-mail a link to others, and they click the group and choose "add group to contacts". This coupled with my previous solution--allowing us to assign multiple selections to the watch list--results in a massively-reduced clickfest when setting up and managing contact lists.
It's time to put an end to CCP's war on piracy. Fight your own battles and stop asking CCP to do it for you. |
