Welcome! Sounds like you're off to a pretty strong start. I was playing a lot longer than you before I ever saw 400 million. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |-á@ccp_guard |

Having been on our various New Player Experience teams and am, currently, sitting comfy in our Player Experience team (aptly named Team Pony Express) I just wanted to drop by and highlight the important parts of your expereience. All datamining supports the notion that players who join player corps on during their initial experience with EVE stick to the game. It's why we put a tax on the NPC corps, it's why we created the recruiting tools, it's what we're currently looking at trying to ensure people do.
So, welcome to EVE! You're now a glorious contribution to my statistics! I will try and refrain from using your contribution to make up lies. @CCP_PrismX EVE Database Developer and Expert Ranter |

I think you spelled "onion" wrong. Either way you should take responsibility for the actions of your pet onions and make sure they conform to forums rules, be they new or old. @CCP_PrismX EVE Database Developer and Expert Ranter |

Nicolo da'Vicenza wrote:Have you considered just doing away with NPC corps and making players individually wardecable? That sounds like a good idea to you and me because we know EVE. But players who are still getting to grips with EVE will just quit rather than try to engage a corporation of grifers in a discussion on how the hell they should undock to complete the tutorial without being pwnt.
Sure we could continue enforce rules about newbie griefing. But the definition of when you're a newbie and when you're capable is highly nebulous. Furthermore we cater to the griefing crowd so it's only natural to expect our players to try and poke at whatever laws we put up. There was a topic here on GD recently which was essentially people trying to get a GM to paint himself into a corner by defining what we consider "newbies" and I see no reason for that to stop.
And if we exclude newbies from this system, what's the point? They'll have quit the game before anyone decs them and thus prompts them to seek protection.
But this is just me being a negative Nancy. Nobody likes my ideas SO I'M NOT GOING TO LIKE YOURS! I kid, of course all ideas are welcome and this one is very good although it suffers for not being OmgIDontKnowAnythingAboutEveWhatShouldIDo?!?-centric. If that makes sense. @CCP_PrismX EVE Database Developer and Expert Ranter |

As a fan of the market trading profession, I'd be curious to know what the OP was buying and selling to make his first 400 million. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |-á@ccp_guard |

As a fan of the market trading profession, I'd be curious to know what the OP was buying and selling to make his first 400 million. Telling this to everybody in a public thread (with dev badges, no less) doesn't seem like a great idea to me - unless it was generic trading. Finding specific items that can be bought & sold for a good profit are better kept private ;) Good times - I remember making my first serious amount of money (back when 100 mil was still a huge amount of ISK) flying my trusty Iteron IV for dozens of jumps, trading mostly NPC trade goods.
Yeah, it may be best not to go into too many specifics if you've still got a good thing going .
Personally I made a bit of money back in the day by trading in named launchers, named ballistic controls, named turrets and similar stuff. The margin on that stuff was decent back then but as more people figured it out, the margin became too thin for my tastes. Bought the stuff all over the place and collected it once a week or so and put it up for sale in a trade hub. Had lot of fun doing it for the same reasons I like fishing probably...putting out the bait and waiting for someone to bite has it's charm
Margin trading is rightfully known as a good way to make money these days, but maybe somewhat underrated as a fun way to make money. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |-á@ccp_guard |
