Here's a funny story... My ex was a animal freak and she had a good number of pets. One was a ferret and 3 where cats. So one day I come home from school and sit down to lets say hmm.. "enlighten my mind". So I'm sitting there watching catdog and I look over on the floor. What do I see? two cats looking like Grace Bud after Fish got through with her!!!! Now this was some good sh*t I had but WTF... Just think a little ALF from the old school TV show but in a little kitty snuff film kinda way.

I've owned 7 ferrets (Got two at the moment ^^), and if you plan to keep him, then here are a few pointers.
1. Ferrets don't need to be washed that often; once or twice a year is plently - they will smell a little after washing them, as their skin is replacing the oil you just washed off. Washing them too much can do more harm then good.
2. They arn't that demanding. Most ferrets like plastic bags, towels, tubes and things they can stick their noses in for toys. When they get tired, or there isn't anything "to do" they will just go to sleep.
3. Some ferrets are fine being kept alone - just be careful about introducing him to other ferrets, he might not know what one is and might go after them. Some are perfectly fine being alone, and have no quarels.
Hope that helps - If you want to know more, then give me a eve-mail :)
p.s What colour is he? :)

Ironically enough, my wife saw me looking at ferret pics (wasnt aware how ferrets looked like) and she asked me about it. I began telling her one of the guys in the forums found one as was trying to keep it ...
She asked me " and the guys in the eve forums, being the bastards they are and you like, are prolly tearing him apart for liking fluffy pets?" and I said "No, they are giving him good advice". She looked puzzled and I told her "Goes to show that people that play eve prefer animal companions to humans mostly" She then nodded in appreciation.
I too prefer animal companions and pets to people. Barring weird hormonal cycles, they will be more faithful, loyal or at least neutral to you their entire lives. People sux.
I too approve of the ferret, may he bring you warmth and companionship, enjoy it ---

Just tell her we recommended he keep the ferret and train it to shred the local bunny population.

FERRET UPDATE:
I no longer have Fu.
I took fu to the vet this morning and had her checked over, everything was alright and I was relieved but after having a talk with the vet I decided that in the interests of the ferret's wellbeing I would give her away to someone who already has two ferrets and wants another one.
The person who will be looking after Fu works in my University so she'll not be going far far away but I still am finding it hard. Though she was with me for only a short time it is heart-wrenching to look at her empty cage.. I miss her already.
However, it was the right choice. she will be looked after better now. ______________________________________________

FERRET UPDATE TWO
Well, After eating a bowl full of TWO weetabix with a double-dollop of "Man the **** up" and "What the hell is wrong with you?" I sprinted down to the Vet, assumed the posture of a very impressive person and said "pleasepleasepleasepleasegivemebackmyferretiloveherlots;.;"
So now I return along with my trusty sidekick Fu.
I just couldn't bear the thought of leaving her there, I HAD to get her back, simple as that. I don't know what it was, the smooth-talk of the Vet I saw this morning or some subconscious fear but I was STUPID to give her up, even for just this short time.
Call me stupid, call me insane...I think I did the right thing in getting her back. ______________________________________________

The thing about ferrets...
I used to have a friend who kept them, I learned a few things. They are quite cute and cuddly, but have to be kept fed and happy, they need toys especially tubes and pipes, they can get annoyed and do have a nasty bite, they are scared of people they don't know so be careful when showing friends, be careful with diet, they can suffer complaints if not fed a balanced diet, they need exercise. Mostly common sense.
The down side is the smell, an adult ferret produces a rather pungent aroma, I could tell my friend was calling long before he got to the door.
Now all you need is a couple of nets and a lurcher... rabbit tastes nice.

Nice one have considered getting ferrets myself although personal advice from a friend that kept 3 of them is makesure you have a outside area or at the very least a veranda.
Male ferrets have glands much like skunk that produce a smell that can be pretty abhorrent when they are fighting, which they'll do either with their toys or with eachother.
Don't need to wash em constantly animals are mostly self cleaning and usingsoap or anything will dry their skin out pretty badly including cats n dogs.
and yeah they will bite ! with the sharpest wee gnashers ever ! although they will possibly learn not too break skin after a while much like dog pups tbh.
Incredibly playful animals why a lot of people keep them even tho they stink probably = ) my mates ones loved to play piggy in the middle(my mate being the piggy ) and chase n tag

@Those who own ferrets:
Keep hearing differing stories here on how bad a ferret can stink and how much bathing they need.
Just asking here (I do not know): I thought it was possible to have a ferret's musk glands (or whatever the stinky generator in them is called) surgically removed. Is that possible and if so is it an ok or bad thing to do to them?

Never had one but they are pretty dirty, and have quite a few bowel movements so, layer a lot of newspaper, and clean it at least once I day I believe (I don't quite remember how often). Good luck!

yes, for the most part, you cant buy a ferret in the us unless its allready been spayed/neutered, and usualy they will remove the scent glands at the same time (most ferrets are marshalls ferrets, they will have blue dots tattoed on one of their ears, one means spayed/neutered, two dots means its also had its scent gland removed)
However, there are pores all over their body that produce oils that can and do stink, when you bathe your ferret, it removes these oils, it will cause these pores to go into overdrive, and produce more oil..
Thus... more you bathe the more they will stink
best policy is to scoop the poop every day, and every once in a while, wash the entire cage, and bathe minimally..
food what comes in must come out, in my experience, the food that smells the least when it comes out (wal mart brand) tends to make for skinny sickly looking ferrets.. Been using this stuff for about 4? years now the smell isnt as bad as the marshalls.. ferrets are fluffy, happy, and just as energetic as they were as pups, now 7 years young
Also.... newspaper is bad (some inks used are pretty nasty), so are woodshavings, cedar irrates the hell out of their skin.. Use the recycled paper pellets/fluff type stuff |

Rats are fantastic pets with lots of character, much better than hamsters (and as an added bonus are awake during the day). The only downside is they don't live long and are prone to cancer. We couldn't handle them dying after 3 years in the end so never replaced our last one.
I would definately consider a ferret. At the moment we have a very entertaining cat.

HEY!!!! I resemble that remark -_-
as already stated, don't wash too much, do get neutered if male, and probably if female too as they can die if not bred or seen by the vet, DO GET THE SPECIAL FOOD it stops the really bad meaty **** smell, do put it on a lead and take for walks its like a dog, and will act like one...only faster.
it does seem very friendly, check the locals for missing ferrets too.
