Just curious, what's the best way to go about using Cruise missiles for level 4s?
Right now I'm using 7x Navy Launchers on a CNR with standard missiles.
Would 7x T2 with T2 ammo be better/more cost effective? Would loading faction ammo in my Navy launchers be cost effective?
I know I could probably figure the math out myself, but hoping a kind experienced mission runner would be willing to offer some insight. ----------

T2 is not worth it. Explosion radius of the high damage t2 makes them less effective against even slow moving BSs and the reduced damage of the precision missiles is enough reduction to make them barely bette than t1 at all even against cruisers. When you factor in that navy launchers are better than t2 launchers T1 with faction launchers wins over t2 hands down.
Due to the CNR having a ROF bonus instead of a direct damage bonus it goes through a lot of ammo, generally making faction ammo not worth it.

Awesome, that's basically what I was wondering. Thanks for the info :)
Guess I'll stick with plain ol' T1 ammo in these launchers :) ----------

holy wrong batman.
t2 launchers with fury ammo ftw, improved kill speed on battleships. with a painter I 2 volley bc/cruisers.
bring some faction ammo for the cruisers, with max skills, navy bcus, and implants pretty sure you can 1volley most cruisers, I usually put them in structure with tech II bcus and no cruise damage implant (11.7% damage difference). and it will speed up kill speed on hacs by quite a bit too. so currently I just switch to faction cruise to shoot cruisers. You're posting again!? Has it really been 5 mins?

I have to agree with Manu. T2 missiles are the way to go makes missioning a lot faster. Though as opposed to using a Raven I'm in a Drake.

Faction ammo in CN launchers, rigors and 1 painter is sort of 'the best' as far as cruise missiles go. You can find calculations on what this statement is based on in this thread.

I think the cost effectiveness of using faction missiles depends on if you're a blitzer or a completionist. I do full clears with looting (alt) and it would cost me 30+mil a day to use them. The extra kill speed for a blitzer however would likely be worth it to get those few extra missions in.

If your question is about cost effectiveness, then T1 is teh way to go.
With faction and T2 you can kill a lot faster, but you spend more isk on ammo per ship killed so it cuts into your profit margin.
Now if you don't mind that cut into your profit and really want to blast through the missions and get LP, then by all means go ahead.

I have run the math, a long time ago, using a standard Raven vs Serpentis. The difference shouldn't matter between that and a CNR though.
So whether or not faction are worth using depends on how much you are paying for them and your base DPS with T1. If you're doing 600 dps (excluding drones) and you can get faction cruise for 2000 isk or less, it's generally worth it. But if it's not going to make a difference in volleys used, save your isk.
T2 just suck, don't bother. They are speed tanked by battleships. You need multiple TPs for them to be effective, which compromises your tank, and those have a long cycle time (meaning you're often going to be left waiting for TPs to be ready or firing without them active). You just might want to train the spec skills to use the launchers for the RoF bonus.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. EVE has devs that care about sound? (Ha ha ha! Gotcha. It actually doesn't!) |
