Originally by: Loka But missileships like Ravens will be totatly screwed. Because travlingspeed during warp is 3 AU for BS. Faster than any missile could fly.
Only if you are the chaser.
If you are the one being chased....and they stray behind you...well, how would YOU like to hit a torpedo doing 3AU/s? Can we get a damage mod on that?

Interceptors should warp at either 8 or 9 au/sec. It only makes sense that the "Interceptor" should be able to intercept any ship that isn't one.

I don't think the inside of the warp bubble is moving any faster then normal space. If it was you wouldn't be able to see anything at all. Plus I'm sure CCP released some RP stuff long ago that states this. So there would be no problem with guns / missiles being activated during warp (think of what happens when you throw a ball on an airplane doing 700 km an hour).

For some odd reason I don't think I'd want to web the ship in front of me in a warp Chase...
Also,
Im fairly certain that the ship travels no faster in warp then usual, the warp drive merely bends space in such a way that travelling your ships top speed in the warp bubble covers a distance of several AU's... the ship is still traveling at its conventional speed inside the warp bubble.
Bastards we are lest Bastards we become. |

Last I read, warp drives make your ship frictionless, so that it can slide through light and other waves, planets, etc at super-light speeds. This is done by making a bubble that you are contained within that moves like that.
So in order to shoot a missile, it would have to have its own warp field generator. So perhaps a missile that cost as much as a ship would be able to, but the whole sensor disruption would be hard to get past. Look for it in Tech 8 :) ---

You guys don't watch star trek do you?
You lauch a torpedo in warpspeed an it hits the target
But then not all ships move at the same speed, it would be a ship class warp battle anyways.

Edited by: Caanan on 17/11/2004 02:46:57 Well theoretically when you go that fast if a particle hit you it would destroy you. Which is why ships in eve generate a bubble around themselves with a void so that the particles can't hit and damage the ship. If you fire a torp across to another ship in warp it would just get destroyed or fly away since you are going so fast. The same thing would happem with a projectile, or a hybrid charge. I don't know if lasers would work, but I'ts possible. So in order to hit something you would need a missile with a warp drive enabled or use a laser. Plus that bubble is used to prevent things from hitting the ship.
The way the CCP writers made it its pretty much impossible for there to be mid warp combat.
the article that says how a warp drive works
However I think if they made a device to stop a ship in warp, that would be cool. Make a fast little interdictor frigate, that would have a device that allowed it to go faster than 6 au/s and catch up to something, when it got in range it could activate a device that would yank the enemy ship out of warp. Once out of warp then people could warp to the interdictor and destroy the enemy ship. Or you could even try to bust safespots by following the enemy ship.
I'm sure that the jovians could develop this sort of technology.

Why not develop a whole new class of weapons designed to operate in warp making the in warp interception thing require a specialist setup? Could be interesting seeing interceptors try to catch up and pull larger ships out of warp
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |
