Edited by: Garak Jakobs on 17/12/2009 16:04:59 Name a game where a patch ruins the game as much as EVE?
We have a right to moan about it because of this example:
Guy does mission, mission is complete yet he doesnt click mission complete and he fetches his salvage boat.
He is looting wrecks knowing full well theres another 20 mil to be had from loot and salvage.
Server resets due CPPs absolute fascination and addiction it seems to annoying tens of thousands of players.
Guy loses wrecks
Guy loses out on 20 mil
Petitions for compensation
Admins say "no" about compensation
Pathetic...
If you bought a car and it didnt work properly what would you do?
Take it back or have it fixed over and over and over?

Whine some more. WoW often goes down for 2 days during a patch, so don't complain about some unexpected downtime. Murphy's Law is really something to live by. On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

Garrys mod aion online .... the list is endless
stop *****ing and do something constructive , you pay your subscription knowing that eve is the way it is thus you don't have much grounds to moan on , does it say in the t&c that ccp with guarantee 100% uptime and no bugs ... ?
perhaps if you spent less time playing games and perhaps try developing yourself then you'd understands how easy it is for something to go wrong , hell its a amazing things go right when all it takes is 1 incorrect character out of a billion to bring a game to its knees,
*rage over*
any idea on when we are coming back up ?

So many noob tears in this thread. The SQL topic has been beaten to death. Asking CCP to change which database they use only lets everyone know you're an ignorant new player and that you've never bothered to use the search function.
The car analogy has especially delicious tears. Try reading the EULA sometime. You can't complain about something you've agreed to. Just makes you look stupid. |

Bah, bookmark the loc of the wrecks, then claim mission. Wrecks will still be there until they rot.
Does not work for rocks, and the wrecks won't survive the boot, however the mission is still paid for.

I don't care that much about my car, never bougth anyonbe expensive either. So I can't really grasp that situation.
But let me answer your question with another one. Hopefully that will answer your "car-dealing" question.
If there is so much problems with a game that makes you dislike it, and that game has a subscription fee. Would you continue to subscribe to it?

While they're at it, they could fix the upgrade belts they "fixed" with the last patch. On patch day they re-spawned, all good. Now they don't.. again... Still on the same location this morning, still the ore, we mined yesterday, missing.

You might want to try the game before making such silly statements. You really have no idea of what broken patches mean till you have been through some of WoW's.
Pre-WotLK, the game is playable at maybe 50% for three weeks due to a patch.

You really have no clue at all about the vast chasm of complexity between a car and a modern MMO server.
Try and think about it. A car has an engine, proven and perfected over about 100 years, and relatively simply mechanical additions to make it into a car.
An internet spaceship game with unreliable connections and unreliable protocols all co-ordinated by a multilayered software system emulating a *complete virtual world* lying on top of a complex network of advanced co-ordinating computers.
Which gets changed a lot, to provide more content, to give the players a better gaming experience.
People like you really need to get a clue, and until you do, shut the f*ck up.

Does rebooting the server always take an hour? Do they just reboot it on daily maintenance? At least be punctual and say it'll be back in an hour dammit.

This is so funny , reading all this and the perfect replies from CCP , its so cute how people blame computers for issues that arise from people failing to know what they are doing , and doing a proper job , FYI computers dont make mistakes , humans make the computers make mistakes , so stop blaming the magic computer for the issues you cause by making mistakes by being uneducated in the field you are trying to preform in , so the real question that i would love to have an answer to and never will is , does anyone ever get fired for these things that arise almost daily ?

Warranty doesnt cover new car... it only covers repairs and very wide collection of explanations why your car is supposed to act like it does.
Most of the time Eve has been working fine... After big patchs (expansions) there have been some issues and it is quite easy to understand. So far they have fixed the major bugs rather fast and prolly will now too...
This kind of games can not be tested as well as for example some texmexbox/praystation before the actual release. We just gotta live with that.

You are making the assumption that's its CCP's fault? What about Microsoft and the many many bugs not only in the SQL Layer but the O/S? I presume we are running VMWare so there is another finger to point at.

The fact that you relate to WoW as being the worst patches in a game is pretty ridiculous. As much as I hate the game, I played it since BETA and it may have taken a couple days for big patches, but middle of the day restarts were not as common as CCP.
That said, why does everyone relate this game to WoW, WoW is sh!t, they charge for expansions that are so sh!tty they should be paying us, not to mention blizzard employees are just a$$holes, why would anyone want to play that game, unless you are 11'teen and have a rich daddy? O wait...
