Don't you hate sitting in lowsec or 0.0 space, wanting to undock from the station, but not knowing if that red or neutral you see on local is near by?
A new technology to be developed called startport remote viewing holes (or "port holes" for short) would answer this question. By allowing the pilot to "look outside" before undocking, he would know if anyone was within the local area, say 50 KM or so.

Maybe ccp could create some kind of screen capture feature, that simply show an image/schematic of the situation outside the station?
So a docked pilot could simply ask for a screen grab of sorts, without really being connected to anything of the mechanics outside. Maybe an image loading in the browser, or simply some kind of button usable when docked at a station.

Why not simply have a tab on the station panel right next to guests that says "local area" and list anything within 50 or 100 KM
I was being funny before about the whole port holes thing, since its really something simple and obvious. Anyone around? LOOK OUTSIDE.

Or you could use this neat feature called 'friends' to help you instead. This would be too powerful for lowsec, and useless for highsec as it is your pod or vessel that provides you with such information.

yeah, but you could im guessing plug your pod into the stations computer and acess its sensor data so you could view from its cams, it would be ubercool to be able to hack station guns from inside the station......

'Uber cool' doesn't necessarily mean viable, balanced or in any way good for the game, though. All pod feeds are neural, and possibly very hard if not impossible to decode/display on regular output feeds.

I'd want a module that let's me hold up a picture of empty space to the porthole.

Actually it could be very interresting with port holes. It should be like a fixed camera. Then perhaps 4 cameras in total to represent the different port holes. This would mean, the person undocking would have a good feeling of what is just outside of the station, but the camera's should not cover every single angel of exterior of the station, leaving blind spots for enemies to utilize (if they are really good).

Or you could 'utilize' a friend to scout the undock for you, or you could use a insta-undock to escape the wicked clutches of people who are intending to kill you.

Or just undock in your Zephyr, then you know exactly what's going to happen, no matter who is outside ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

a said point to point out is that for some reasion or another there are players who dont have friends in this game fro one reasion or another , i myself played alown for 3 months till i managed to find a corp.
on the OP i dont see why it would be so hard to get a look outside to see whos on grid . i mean of the millions of windows on any and all stations how hard is it to look out , and as far as i know station wall does not block ship scaners or you couldnt lock ships on the other side of the station.

Yes, it would be very overpowered to be able to see outside the apartment you're in if there's a mob of rifle wielding gangsters at the entrance. /sarcasm
That's what cameras are for, they exist in my ****ty 30 year old building why don't they in these futuristic hologram-capable space stations that can dock any ship (Other than a Titan) in 5 seconds?
