New player - not in a corp - with one goal in mind: to make enough ISK to cover one PLEX each month.
Please post and share stories & info if you are not in a player corp and you've done this.
What methods do you use to make ISK? (I'm mining and running missions atm) How long did it take you to do it he first time? Did you used to be in a corp? Was it easier for you then?

Being in a corp doesn't affect income based on your daily activities unless you do things that require teamwork. This includes utilizing a POS, sharing BPOs to build/copy from, etc.

Edited by: Magnus Orin on 21/12/2009 20:24:12 This is my advice to any new player who thinks they want to try to play to pay for their game:
Can you make $15 in real life faster than you can make 300 million isk in game?
Until the answer to that question is no, then you should pay for your game with real money.
Money is only a convenient way to attach an exchangeable value to time spent.

Can you have as much fun making $15 in real life as making 300 million isk in game?
If the answer to that question is yes, then you should pay for your game with real money.

Geez, you're right. You could probably do dog walking for an easy $15 or show an old person how to use email or something. -- autechre - ep7 - track 1: rpeg estevancarlos.com |

Some of us don't have ways outside of their salaried jobs to make an extra $15 with real money. Therefore, to spend Eve ISK to pay for game time is actually a way to "make extra money", by not spending money from a fixed income. And you get to have fun at the same time.
For high sec, I'd say trading is the best way to make your ISK to pay for game time, but then I'm biased. You run the conflict of interest, then, because using your ISK to pay for game time takes from your trading capital. You'll probably want to build up capital for a couple months before you start considering this.

Join whatever faction warfare militia that you like and then run missions in a bomber until you have enough lp to obtain and sell some lp store items. Pay for a plex and have enough left over for whatever it is you want to do after a single days grind once you hit level 4 missions and have the relevant social skills trained up. Enjoy the rest of your 'free' month of eve only grinding missions for a day if you spent all the buckets of isk you previously made.

You would ask for one of 3 reasons.
1. To nerf it 2. Do it yourself 3. Make the ISK for Ingame purpose.
I fit 3. I pay for my subs, dont mind doing so.
In my quest to keep my wallet competetive, only one method seems to make any sense to me.
Macro.
All the other methods will require that I have far more time on my hands than I do. That would qualify me for needing the ISK for the plex though and I don't.
I some times wish Credit card accounts got an ISK salary each month. While I would rather my income from my 20 hrs a week of game time be enough, it simply isnt. |

It takes about 10 hours of level 4 missions to get the ISK for a PLEX. I usually just spend one quiet weekend a month doing this.
But because I am in a corp I have another option, I just take it from the corp wallet, that takes about 2 seconds.

You need to trick other people into trusting you then rip them off and steal their isk and assets.

Personally, i salvaged lvl4 missions for a friend during my first month or two...
I think i paid for the first 2 months, after that i was able to fly a raven well enough to solo lvl4's. Haven't used RL money since then (over 2 years), except once or twice when campaigns left me unable to earn the 10mil a day you need + replace my ships.
So yeah, it can be done after 2months, and as you get better you can build up enough of an isk buffer to take a few losses and still pay for your time with isk. Right now, i spend maybe 2 days out of the week carebearing, and its more than enough for me.

Golem and a Domi, 2 accounts, lvl 4 missions.
Kill everything. Loot everything. Salvage everything. Sell off good named loot. Refine the rest. Sell mins or build and sell something with the mins. Build Rigs with the salvage you get. Cash in LP for items, then sell said items.
You do all this with a char with good skills, you can make 40-75 mil/hr overall.
So it'd take 4 hrs to make one Plex. Though you'd need 2 as it takes 2 accounts :)
Golem kills with Cruise missles/T2 Medium drones. Domi kills with T2 Heavy drones, while passing cap to Golem. Golem perma Runs X-Large shield booster with 84-94 Resists(Swapping out hardeners to be mission specific).
Been doing a variation of this with Golem/Domi, CNR/Domi, Raven/Domi for over 4 years.

I hack eve accounts for the isk to afford my plex. Takes about 2 hours of dedicated work and the rest of my eve time I spend chatting it up in my npc corp channel which I'm sure you know is full intellectual convos.

I surf random eve-related forums and offer buddy invites for 200m isk and never pay up. Works really well, I haven't had to buy a PLEX in months! --------------------------------------------

1) This IS telling you how to make it happen
2) Not understanding why this is valid is why many people wonder why they are always struggling to pay bills in RL. (Spending 4 hours in game for something you can ONLY use in game Versus spending 4 hours in RL working for something you can use in RL and in game.
3) WIN

You can make enough money for a plex (~260 million) in a single day of intense L4 grinding, assuming you get all the loot and salvage, and liquidate your LP. Otherwise, a weekend spent casually ratting around lowsec, updating your orders and jobs, spreadsheet online etc etc.
And yes, I'm too cheap to pay RL money if I can avoid it. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

I used to buy GTC's back when they were 400 mil for a 90-day code but after they changed that and now it's closer to 250-300 mil for a 30-day code I switched back to credit card. I also noticed that I enjoy the game a LOT more when I get to keep my iskies rather than spend them on GTC/PLEX's.
Buying PLEX's almost becomes a job that you work at for no other reason than to buy your next PLEX. Not much fun I'm afraid. I spend much more than $15 on a SINGLE pizza for a SINGLE night so in the scheme of things $15 a month is a negligible expense for the enjoyment Eve provides. Actually it's a damn good deal I'd say ---
