Some suggestions... 1. Scan in .5 and .6 security status systems, preferably ones with low traffic. You'll usually find more sites, and better paying/more challenging sites in those systems.
2. To find wormholes, scan in dead-end systems of any security status, again preferably ones with low traffic. Wormholes can be found anywhere, yet for some odd reason I seem to find more wormholes in these type of systems than just about any other system.
3. Don't fit every single exploration module you need on your ship - just fit one or two, and carry the rest in your cargo hold. When you find a site, dock and refit your ship as needed for the site.
4. Train the appropriate scanning skills, they help a lot.
5. Fit one or two appropriate scanning rigs to your scanning ship of choice, they help a lot.
6. Especially in wormholes, become expert with your directional scanner. It'll save your ship.
7. The more you scan, the better you get at it :) Especially when it comes to judging exactly what the heck that big red circle means :)
In hisec, I have the best profit from radar sites - usually around 15 to 20 million isk per site. Mag sites I don't even bother wasting my time locking them down, not worth it in hisec.
Grav sites can be quite profitable to mine - especially if they have hemophrite (spelling?) in them, but are often already occupied. If so, just ask the current miners if you can join in - quite often they will say yes, sometimes they will tell you to bugger off. Sometimes you can sell the location of grav sites, just make a deal with any miners you know.
I solo class 1 and 2 wormholes several times a week. The hardest part is finding one that isn't already occupied. I used to just gtfo whenever I saw that a wormhole was occupied; now I just start talking in local (cloaked and ready to jump back out!) and ask if it's ok to explore, or if there is anything I can help with. About half the time, nobody responds or they respond with force (haven't lost a ship yet tho - fortunately!). Every other time, I've been invited on in, usually to mine grav sites for a cut of what I make. A few times told I could help myself to the ladar sites, and one very rare and indecently profitable time joined in on a radar site in a class 5. The coolest thing about talking with the current occupants of a wormhole is you don't usually need to spend time scanning - they already know where everything is :)
Hope this helps - safe flying!
