Most MMOGs have an endgame level cap. Eventually you get to level 50, or 60, or 99, or whatever... And you can't go any higher. This is generally where the cool stuff happens. Where all the raids and things occur. Where all the phat lewtz are.
This creates a mindset where all the time you spend grinding your way towards that endgame stuff is basically lost time. It's all about what happens when you finally hit the cap - not what you do along the way.
EVE is a little different in this regard. There is no level cap. It is all about what you can do today.
Ok, fine, you don't have tens of millions of SP... You can't fly a dreadnought... You can't fit some ginormous lazer-o-death on your ship... It doesn't matter. You can still do stuff.
I'm not entirely sure what you're interested in doing... I don't know what cool things you read about in your magazines... I'm not sure what floats your boat... But you can do pretty much all of it right now.
You want to explore some wormholes? Go do it! Get yourself a cheap little exploration frigate, pack in some probes, and go see what you can find. Yeah, you'll probably lose a couple frigates... Though I didn't do too bad against the sleepers in a speed-tanked rifter. But you can always join a fleet. Get a few buddies together and you can actually kill those sleepers instead of running away.
Want some PvP? Go do it! Grab a cheap little frigate, fit some tackle, and see how much trouble you can cause. Again, you'll probably lose some ships... And again, you'd have better luck in a fleet.
You want to shape the face of New Eden? You can do that too, and you don't need a ginormous corporation. Of course you aren't going to take over half of nullsec with just you and some buddies... But you can get a start. Put together some friends, start a corporation, and see if you can take over some dusty corner of nullsec when nobody is looking.
You do not need to wait until you can fly a battlecruiser, or a battleship, or a dreadnought, or a titan... You don't need billions of ISK... You don't need millions of SP...
You just need to go out and do something. ---- |
