was wondering if it can. I remember a kick-ass fit on BC for lvl4, but it would be stupid to bring it to lvl5. So i wondered if it's even possible. I know from that paladin can, which afaik requires cap too... or does the golem require to much, considering neut towers?

From my own experiences... you may be able to solo lvl 5's as long as you have an insane tank with a crystal set, 1k dps (to take down some of the triggers in any reasonable amount of time, and use a cap booster with a crapton of 800's (because you will get neuted to death in most missions).
If there's multiple neut towers it's even worse cuz you may find that your boosted cap may be instantly sucked away before you can pulse your booster. If you have an alt/friend in a basilisk providing shield, cap, and drone support its much easier. It is possible, but highly risky.
My hypothesis that the paladin can do lvl5's (which i'm kind of skeptical of since they're far more vulnerable to EWAR and cap than the golem) is that a tachyon fitted paladin has the range to take out the neut towers before they suck too much cap (assuming they're not ECM'd or TD'd to hell and back.

Edited by: Dacril on 27/12/2009 18:08:02 Edited by: Dacril on 27/12/2009 18:06:22 In most of them you'll get neuted and die. Even without the neuts you can easily die in some missions because of the high dps. Also, the cap booster is useless. It does not even come close to compensate. Not to mention that if you are to miss even one cycle of the cap booster, your hardeners will fail and there goes Golem.
As for the suggestion to go with the paladin, its even a worse idea. Paladin rely on cap even more.
I've done a lot of lvl V's, but never alone. If you're not crazy, you'll bring a basilisk or an insanely good passive tanked ship to tank for you.

Golem is a great choice for level 5's, however doing it alone will not be possible for most. The Rattlesnake is a much better option for tank, as its passive iteration tankes an insane amount even without basilisk support. However, if you want to do these things at any kind of a decent pace you will need a friend for DPS and an alt for RR. Even split two ways the LP rewards for these missions are extremely good and you are likely to be making 100k LP every 2-3 missions, depending on social skills. As you might imagine, this is absurdly profitable for mission running in empire, and with two people accepting missions, you will be able to have a large enough pool of missions insuring you never have to do them in low-sec.
Also, if you don't feel like spending several billion isk to run them in blinged out faction ships or marauders, I've tested and confirmed that most all of them can be done with a standard active tanked mission Dominix, a Guardian, and an Apocalypse/Raven/Maelstrom/whatever for DPS. Memento Mori. |

Just tried this in EFT and you can get a nice 1773 dps tank against serpentis using only t2 equipment and t1 rigs, no cap needed at all, ofcourse you can only do 350 dps but who cares you can set your drones to autoattack, load FOF missiles and go afk for the night.

Passive shield Ishtar is pretty good at this, it is better at soloing gurista 5s than the NH.
Solo marauder around neut towers seems like suicide, if you must use a marauder you will need an alt to rep you or an alt in an Ishtar or NH to tank for you. |

Ishtar can do it, I've seen passive tanked sleipnir (was slow though)
I imagine passive typhoon could do it, pretty much any comedy passive shield tank can do it. Trick is finding a good mix of dps and passive tank. May or may not need faction / deadspace hardners (****ty ones that don't use cap). ~~~
