As is usual every now and then I ask for help in finding a fun game to addict myself to.
Atm i'm looking for space pirate (or any type of game with piracy in it...even if its not in space, and not a pirate sim but...well just a game that permits piracy and ****) game.
2d, 3d its all good, if its hip large and open world then thats ****ing awesome.
200m to whoever suggests a game that gets me hooked.
Word of advice though, i'll already know about most your suggestions and probably played several to boredom already, so dont be suprised when I say "no" to all your AWESOME suggestions which you yourself love.
Frankly, if I get 50 suggestions of which 5 are new to me, and I like 1 i'll be a happy godamn camper. Signature needs to be more EVE related. Zymurgist |

eve online :p really.. port royale 2? morrowind/oblivion permit theivery.. Then again, youve probably played them anyway. I believe EV Nova permits piracy, but I never played it much. The mainstay x3tc, of course. Transcendence is a nice little 2d top-down space arcade type thing, and I think you could be a pirate... Thats not exactly the main way to do it. Free though. afraid I cant really offer more than that OHGODS BELOW THIS LINE IS MY SIG !!!! SRSLY! Blane Xero > Lance is at -0.9 sec status with a 1 million bounty. Lance is also amarrian. Thats 3 evil points |

I'm guessing you've already played Fallout 3?
How about the earlier fallout games? You can't exactly be a pirate, but you can be a brutal sociopath SOB, and you kind of get to steal people's stuff after you kill them, so there you have it.
Orbiter? Plenty of space, but no piracy. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

X2 or X3?
or Fallout 1 and 2.
I second Freelancer as a good possibility, especially with the multiverse of addons and mods you can get now a days. want to fly around in a Shadow ship from B5? CAN DO!

Transcendence - 2D but good graphics space gankage. You can pirate but it has consquences. EV Nova - If played right you can make whole planets tribute your despotic piratical empire out of fear of annihilation (insanely hard to do tho). The Space Game - all the pirates you could ever want :) Star Control II for windows pure winsauce of an (ancient) game. If selling your own crew to the Druuge isn't pirate enough for you I don't know what is Starscape - 3rd link down. Tho you dont really get to pirate you do nick lots of stuff. and of course Frontier Elite II. You can pirate your heart out and if noone sees it theres no crime.

Well just to give it a shot, best damn HUGE open world game to explore, back in the day for me was
STAR CONTROL II ...you could leave the main quest apart and explore the galaxy finding odd planets on your customizable ship to gather resources, some fun whacky quests and the ultra random find rainbow colored planets quest wich on playing for several months only managed to find 6 , I even started a log per quadrant to search for all of them !!!
You CAN be a Pirate, as in you can go around exploring blowing people up or making alliances with them...
Your ship is highly customizable, since it has IIRC about 15 slots wich can be filled with extra crew, engine, firepower etc.
DAMN DAMN nice game ... wish they did a revamp of it for the current century. It's not that old either, and graphs could be compared to Space Quest IV-V ---

X3:TC is a massive game. They even have a pirate start! You can shoot ships, cause them to eject, board the new ship and sell it. Build your own stations to make some passive isk.
Freelancer.. I played the hell out of it, good game still.
Tachyon: The Fringe is an oldie but I enjoyed it back in the day. |

Uh... Well, you can fly around in a spaceship stealing stuff from other planets in Spore, but it gets really dull after some time (and you have to evolve an entire creature from cell to space before you get to do so, anyway).
Actually I don't really know any good game. Going a bit more general sci-fi (it's part RPG, part third person shooter), I can advise you Mass Effect. Lots of branching dialogues with multiple options that allow you to decide whether you want to be polite or blunt, but no matter how you react to people, you have to save the galaxy, not steal stuff from it, so no pirating. Mass Effect is only something for you if you like backstories and don't mind RP'ing, though the game got some impressive voice acting, and the lack of ammo is nice (but weapons overheat instead). -----

It might not be a pirate game, but Mount & Blade is pretty good fun and you can pillage and loot all you want. The combat in it is pretty good, though id recommend you turn down the difficulty a bit at the start. ;) Link

The Guild 2 Pirates of the european seas.
Might be a bit buggy, but it has kept *Me* occupied for a long time, and the Pirate part is just a small portion of the game afterall.
