You can look for some signs that can tip you off to a hacked account.
Bad english and really low prices are two.

I've started a thread in Features and Ideas Discussion, which involves a system much like the GTC sales.
If you have any input, or suggestions to the idea, please make them known.
If we can get the ball rolling on this, it could help get a system in place.

:( everyones getting quick response except me haha the exact situation mention in the inital post happened to me... he accepted 2 offers then just disappeared with both our iskies. ive had a petition up for 3 days and still nothing... im looking to buy another cahracter but dont have the ammount of isk i would need to buy one so im training a brand new character pointlessly until they reimburse my isk... im BEGGING for a way to secure these trades, and a faster response time

Mishallia, I've had a petition in 3 and 4 days, I think CCP went home for the holidays :((((

CCP should post live petition statistics. These statistics should include number of petitions presently unanswered, petitions pending and petitions completed for each category.
Average response time should also be included for each category, this would allow a player to very roughly predict an expected time until their petition would normally be answered.

I was scammed trying to buy a character.
Been 5 days now since I created the petition, so can not buy any character or try to until I get isk back....really frustrating that it takes this long when you are being scammed and using the correct channels.

Can i just add..
I have bought 'n' sold many toons in my couple years in game. Probably in region of 15/20 and not once have i had a problem
Why, because i play it safe, couple of example..
#1 the player has 50mill sp and wants only 4bill??? Alarm bells???... the post of the character doesn't sit right on the forum
#2 Good communication with seller, make sure right up until the point you give him the isk he is online and you are talking to him, make sure 3x that he has your account name etc.
Doing this has stopped me once being scammed... Finally if the deal 'doesn't feel right' then pull out, you dont have to buy the toon..
Unfortunatly scare-monering posts like this stop the trade in characters, and i feel that although good to point out characters that are known scammers IE as soon your scammed put it on here, this type of posts stops the newer players buying/seling their toons in fear of scammed... THink Jita... Just because its swamped with scammers have we all stopped buying things of contracts.. Nope we still do, why because we check it make sure its cosha... Do The same with your charcter you buying.
Finally, buying a character is safe, CCP in the EULA and this forum have said they will return any scammed isk, ok so it might take a while, but its better than being scammed in game and losing it forever..
