Ok im not sure if this is the right forum to post this.
Ive noticed that alot of players have been tring to scam players by character selling. Scenario:
Player A wants to sell Character Player B sends isk to player A for character Player A tells player C that the character is still for sale Player C sends isk to player A for character Player A disappears.
This has happened to me on 2 occasions. First one Player A did this and then sent me the wrong character. But similar name. 3 days later the character correct character appeared on my account. Second time is still active. And petition is made. After 1 week still waiting on CCPs response
Im making this post to let everyone know to be careful! Have a lot of communication between seller and other buyers to make sure the seller is selling to only 1 person. Or you might be out of a lot of isk.

his happened to me as well... im quite angered by it... they say its against the rules but then take forever to respond? ive probably put 100 USD into CCP since 05 and i feel like they should have better service than this cause now i have nearly 2B caught up in a trade and cant buy a new character that i actually want

It is the holiday period guys so I guess you could cut them a bit of slack. I understand your frustration as it also happened to me but they will sort it eventually.
On another note, it would be good if we could use a third party to confirm, i.e they hold the isk until toon is transferred and then confirm so isk can be sent to seller.
This would alleviate most scams, maybe CCP will look at it and allow me to be a third party :)

Chribba would be ideal or someone of similar standing but do feel it would stop a lot of scamming.

i've been toying with the idea of purchasing a character since returning to eve. The above comments make me rethink that possibility, as I cannot afford to pay for an account that is not.
By definition of the stickies scams are severely dealt with, however, there is a strong trend amongst the threads suggesting otherwise ~
Just how safe are the purchases of characters ? Will CCP truely fix it or will it be like the banking double dip where they say one thing and just leave you hanging forever and a day ~

have been scammed too... buyed a char for 5b. in the forum all looks fine. he confirmed the trade i sent isk (talked ingame too and he insures a fast trade) 2 days nothing happend. then i got a mail of the selling char. writing his account has been hacked....
i wrote a petition yesterday with no response until now, but okay its holiday time so we have too wait for some time.
it seems that character spams occure often these days. be warned! you may spend a lot of money and will have to wait a long time to get it back if it is a spam

For the veterans on EVE, I'm sure you rememebr the old character trading days..... Before the "scam free" rules and stuff....
Naga loot shop members used to help with char transfers.... Trustworthy members of EVE that played the middleman... Player A sends isk to Naga loot shop member... Once both players confirm char has been transfered in good order and whatnot, Naga member would send isk to player B for a smooth and safe deal.
The only problem with this is... Most of the old warhorses of old EVE are long gone or not interested in this crap anymore, it worked better than this new system and I bet scams have increased 500% since the old days. You can trust literally NOBODY in this game, it's sad when I think about it. WTB-The good ol' days :'(

Unfortunatly, people like myself who would secure such transfers are not allowed to do so per the CCP transfer rules (already discussed said issues with GMs) - since CCP is protecting the transfers.
While I would welcome a change to that to be able to assist, I could also see a similar feature as the GTC sales, where a seller sells the character in a similar way, offering the character to a buyer who simply clicks the accept button, ISK is withdrawn and deposited into a character the seller choses and the character is moved to the buyers account.
Even at that stage the buyer could input the account name him/herself preventing a seller form knowing the account username. And the seller would only have the transfer fee deducted from the CC once the buyer press accept.
Altho the above method might be better off in the ideas forum...

Sounds like a better system chribba. Especially as it would take multiple people to hold for the number of transfers occuring.
How many people have actually been successfully scammed without CCP sorting it out EVENTUALLY? That is the real crux imho. As long as they sort it out eventually, and the time added to your account is suffcient... seems fair non?

My experience with CCP is such, I know they do not do the right thing. They do not replace time and only begrudgingly monies. You get "STFU and go play WOW", and then banned if you pursue renumeration or recoupment of monies misappropriated.
CCP obviously is aware of the scams. Historically most long standing scams involve CCP somewhere in the loop ~ this is not destined to be sorted out or remedied any time soon. Since the appearance of this thread, I've researched and discovered these forums are rife with scams being reported. IF, and it is a huge IF, CCP wanted to sort it out, they would have by now, it don't take a genius to fix. Chribba's suggestions is simplistic and would work. That the suggestion has never been implemented speaks volumns. We can discuss it adnasium, without CCP it's for naught.
We vent, forget, and business goes on ~ this thread will be buried as more players post characters for sale, or wanted to buys. It goes away. CCP has time on their side ~

Edited by: Da'' Hold on 29/12/2009 05:11:55 Wow!! Chribba be up in the house!! Surprising.. but Chribba, that's a good idea indeed. Guys, I was scammed just the other week trying to buy a toon. CCP jumped in on it about 4 days into the scam with ban hammers in hand. They were very quick to return my isk and chase down the culprit. What they did to the scammer I have no idea, I did get my isk back. Just took a few days for them to track down the trail. I can promise you... they WILL handle your issue and they WILL fix the problem. I don't think CCP likes character scammers and feel they may spend a little time tracking the ISK trail before they implement the ban hammer. I must admit though, the amount of character scams have been increasing lately for whatever the reason, it sux but rest assured that CCP WILL chase them down.
A lighter note... I have a toon for sale and I promise I will forward the toon to the buyer. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1241133

I bought a Char "Woddy Woodpacker" 5 days ago, i got an email from GM NOVA this morning to say CCP had to return the char to its rightful acc, as it had been hacked. I got the isk i paid for the char back, but lost allot of isk, as i had to sell allot of assets for less than what I could re-buy them for. I am looking at a few chars now, and i am worried about once again buying a hacked char.
My advice to anyone who buys a character at all, is to leave it sitting for a week after you buy it. Dont buy anything for it, don't transfer any isk to it.
One bitten, twice scammed.

Ill get in on this one if u guys dont mind me cutting in.
First ill start by saying that ccp have always been straight up with me during all my incidents with them
atm im at 8 (scammed and account hacks)
i have been scammed and had chars taken back from my account because they where hacked.
And everytime although frustraiting to myself ccp have delt with it in a fast polite manner i even had one of my main accounts banned and then re opened but ccp was kind enough to give me 30 days free for the inconvince
so all i can say really to u guys is be patient and wait for ccp to do there thing and it will work out have faith in them its xmas they are going to have a heavy work load a little faith.
as for the snigg guy i inderstand where u are coming from aswell and yea ccp wont do anything about that and it just sucks

A secure character Xfer system would be best solution and CCP maybe make even more $$$ because more ppl buy and sell Chars because its secured.
There are some Threads abt. it in the Features and Ideas Forum: Linkage

yes a secure system like gtc's would be better proberly easier and alot quicker :P
but we make do with what we have right like people who have traded chars for a while it hasnt always been this nice if people remember screen'ing skills and just trading via evemail lol

that would be great and all, but what about the accounts that were hacked? case in point: i bought a toon 5 days ago that i had no idea that was stolen. although i did get my isk back, the damage has already been done. these bastards are running wild in the forums, there has to be something done about that! and soon!

You have to pay 20 dollars/euros for the transfer service, i see no reason why there should not be some kind of CCP employee to monitor the exchange of characters and the agreed isk amount, you are paying for the privilage after all with RL cash so there should be a RL service provided until there is a safe system to do the exchange electronicaly.

Yes, its sad, they got me too.
Anyone have ideas if the rise of the character scams has driven the character market down, as it seems the price of a good character is way down.
CCP I want my ISK back :((((

I was planning on buying a char until I read this thread. Why is this not done with contracts ? Everything eles is, you cant get ripped off with contracts as long as you read the contract carefully.

I think someone attempted to scam me 2 days ago. I spoke to the seller online and copied our convo. Pasted the convo to the forum post. I never actually petitioned CCP but after downtime the isk that I transferred the seller had been reversed back to my account by a GM. I guess all I can say is thank you very much CCP for handling the situation so quickly. Here is a link of the forum post.http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1240856&page=1#6 I'm thinking that documentation is key to CCP helping you out quickly, so save any convo's that you have ingame
