Hi, I just started eve about 2 weeks ago and I am enjoying it a lot. I enjoy doing the fighter quests, but have thought of buying a second account for crafting. My question is if it is worth it, or I am too late to make a real profit of it?

First thing, have you done all the starter agents missions?
Press F12 and you can select the "show career agents" - go to them and do all the missions for all 5, this will give you a lot of stuff you can use or sell and some skills books.
After that you can think about having a second account to train a character for something other than combat, e.g. mining
Then you have one for combat missions and/or pvp and one for mining and other ways to make isk.

Also, unless you want to be dismissed as WoW reject it's referred to as manufacturing in this game. _________________________ Join Channel 'Mentors' for PVP and PVE help and advice ingame without changing corps. Click Channels and Mailing lists > Channels > Join > Mentors |

lolwow
manufacturing is not really profitable for noobs. As everyone and his dog is manufacturing out there, while nobody likes to lose ships/stuff, the result is that supply is way bigger than demand...
I suggest trading as a second career. It can be profitable because people is lazy to move their own stuff or to check cheaper prices... you can simply buy low and sell high elsewhere or even in same station and make millions a day.

Thanks for your answers. I am sorry I have yet to catch the 'eve-lingo' :) I will wait with manufacturing and just try to earn the ISK by doing missions.

1) Yes - it is Manufacturing instead of Crafting. This isn't a Medieval time with swords and sorcery - it's space ships and blasters.
2) Yes - again - no Tolkienesc quests by Fellowships - it's missions run by fleets.
3) re: #1 & #2 - you are not even the thousandth person to make that mistake on these forums.
4) If you want a second account - you can get one right now - and if you haven't done all the tutorial missions - that account can help you do them. Do the Business First, the Industry Second and the Military third. The first one will give you a mining frigate and an Industrial - so will the second - while the third will give you combat ships - but has the best asteroid fields. If you mine out all the rocks in your tutorial and career agent missions you can come away from them with somewhere in the vicinity of over 25 million ISK. You'll just find that hard to do in smaller ships.
Things you can do:
1) Mining is very easy to get into for a rookie - they give you a couple of mining frigates and industrials in the career missions. Mine the ore with the mining frigates, then jettison it into a "jet can". Name the jet can with the time (it and wrecks last 2 hours) then come back with the industrial when you want to empty it. If you have two active characters as long as one of them stays in the mission space it will stay active even if you turn in the mission. If you don't have two active characters - then you need to mine whatever you are going to mine before you turn the mission in.
2) Mission Running - Level One missions pay very poorly but are required to get to the Level II Agents. Running missions improves your standing with the bases you refine ore in (once you have the skills up) or manufacture things in. Level IV Agents pay very well though once you have worked your way up there and have the battleships to run them.
3) Industry - this is the manufacturing part. The reason to do this - is because you like doing it. You won't make money at it until you have really refined your skills and located a good market for your stuff. You can also make things for yourself - which - even if you could actually buy them more cheaply than the market value of the minerals you will use to make them - lets you do so without actually having to have any ready money to speak of - and lets you make them without some journey to the trade hub to get that really good price. So - there are reasons to go into manufacturing - but initial profits is not one of them. Again - the primary reason to get involved in manufacturing is - because you like doing it.
4) Business - here - you need to have money to make money so you are NOT going to be making Millions a day your first day playing the game. You can get started though simply buying low and selling at a higher price. You just have to put some work into figuring out where you can buy low and where you can sell high. No other trader is going to tell you where you can do that because; a) he's doing that and you'd be his competition; b) telling someone where a good deal is will almost instantly ruin it for everyone as a swarm of people show up to try and take advantage of it.
The Manufacturing Process is:
Mining > Refining > Production > Transportation > Selling
at each step along the way you can make your operation more efficient and thus make more money at it. Selling though is the most important aspect of the lot. You can skip all but Selling by substituting Buying for them but you can not substitute anything for Selling. A good Trader can make up for poor performance in the earlier stages - a bad Trader can ruin everything that came before.
So ... regardless of whether you want to be a Trader or not - it pays to understand it and have your skills up for it. You just need to accumulate a good bit of working capital in order to be pulling in those Millions/Day. You can not "spend" this money - you must Invest it. Working Capital is the tool of a Trader.

It's not to late to enter the manufacturers ranks. But you need to keep a few things in mind:
1) If you haven't got your production skills @ 5, you will not be able to produce at competitive prices. Profit margins on tech 1 items are often just 5%.
2) Some tech 1 items drop as loot from rats in asteroid belts and missions. It's usually not profitable to produce them, with the exception of ammunition, ships, scripts ... and everything else which never or rarely drops as loot.
3) Producing and selling are two different trades, but they compete on the same market since there is little room for "resellers". What you can try to counter that, is finding a niche product or a region with less competition. Basically as a producer, you're automatically a seller.
4) Public research slots and manufacturing slots can be booked for weeks. So it can be interesting to look for business partners / a corporation. Of course that involves trusting people. Be very careful to never put all your assets into one basket. You can not avoid risk, but you can limit it to a reasonable amount.

About 3 days ago I started manufacturing something I never did before. I've earned about 130 million ISK so far. I think I'll make more
It's never too late to start.
You might want to check out the Industry forum, and the links in the sticky there.

Those fighter quests sure are amazing. Now, lets go craft in Iron Forge. After that we can go on a raid through Orgrimmar. FOR THE ALLIANCE! LULULULUL
No. Go back to WoW. -------------------------------------------------------------- "Youtube, its like a pitri dish of stupid."

Thank you all for your great advices.
I have unfortunately abandoned the tutorial missions except the military ones (which are completed). I now have too low standings with them to retrieve the missions again. Is there a way to gain that specific standing so I can get the tutorial missions again?

You can petition the GM's to reset them for you. They won't do that for regular Agents but for the Career Agents I believe they will. You can do that just to the left of this screen under EVE Support/Petitions. Just say that you're new, messed up and lost contact with those agents - list which ones and ask them to reset them.
The other thing you can do though - is go to any of the other schools and do the missions for the agents there - as long as you haven't destroyed your standing with your faction. Even if you have done that - you can often raise it up a bit through Connections or Diplomacy. There are also the Career and Tutorial Agents for other factions - though doing things for your factions enemies may lower your standings with your faction - not that this matters if you don't care about that. Who you start out as doesn't matter but what you do does.
I have a list of some of the school locations in my sig. Not all the agents are listed as the list is old and locked so I can't update it but the schools they are at are there. Look their solar systems up in your people and places and book mark them - then you can see how far away the are - from your current location.
