That could be an interesting slant actually,
Say two aurora corps representing some faction at war with each other, then you get players to join for eg and have some sort of war. That sort of slant would allow for people to willingly join and attack other players and allow for an aurora directed story. Its then upto the players to ofc be able to leave and rejoin their original corps perhaps.

Edited by: Xelios on 19/11/2004 13:17:21 Most of the suggestions I have would take place before the reporting Orestes, unless ISD can program events into the game I doubt they'll be of much help to you =(
Here's a few quick things I came up with:
- Logs from ruined ships that need to be decoded either by the user or by a special (level 4?) agent - Gathering clues from various locations to lead you ultimatly to a secret location or some kind of reward - General clues about the storyline or history of EVE that leave you wondering what they're about, even clues that (when pieced together with other clues) will reveal a part of the storyline or history that would otherwise remain completely unknown - 'Puzzles' that could be worked through, requiring special things. Ie. there's a strange anomoly in one system and by gathering information about it (scanning it and other things nearby that kind of thing) you come to the conclusion that deploying a dampening emitter near the anomoly will have some kind of effect on it, possibly opening up a conduit to another location or some other such thing - Gathering strange pieces of old wreckage and such that need to be combined with other pieces in certain ways to 'build' a new module or tool not otherwise available, possibly using clues to determine how this is done
I'm sure you could think of a lot more. The key to all this would be random seeding of such things, not like POI's today that are in certain locations all the time. Ie. after each downtime certain things may be made detectable on the scanner in certain systems, but they would be a one time only thing. When someone finds them they are either taken (as a log would be), or 'used up' (in the case of puzzles or things like that). Basically if you find such a thing you'll know you're the only one will see that specific clue, or puzzle or whatever else. This would make exploring a truely viable profession, and a fun one at that. Nothing would be greater than finding an integral clue to part of the Jove storyline for instance, one that answers one question but opens up 3 new ones. Not only this, but getting an encrypted log that has to actually be decoded by the user (ie. through hidden patterns and such) would be very immersive I think.
All of these things would require some coding to implement, but with Exodus being mostly content maybe Kali could be mostly storyline? =P
But please, if the clues system is considered make them really hard clues, not a captains log that says "maybe if you deploy a dampening emitter (HINT HINT) something will happen?". I mean clues that will take days or weeks to solve, if they're not in depth like this they're not really worth having at all.

Only time i read the CCP storyline is when im bored at work, I think the players in EVE makes a much bether storyline by them selves with wars and evil things going on in the universe of EVE :)

Xelios, what a great post! You are absolutly right: if a large battle takes place, then it should be part of a story line. Again, storyline should NOT be "this <item> was found <at> place". It should be more like "a large ship carrying <this and that> has lost contact at <somewhere>"... if the <this and that> was a BPO, I guess people would race to get there first. Combine that with <somewhere> being a constelation... and you might even have a war! THAT would be a storyline, not a bedtime story. There might be a news channel that could broadcast short stories, which would work like missions too "ship requests help against pirates at <place>"... etc. etc.

Well I have always liked the idea of being able to join NPC corps like Concord or the Guristas. I would also like to see people who join corps like Home Gaurd be able to fight other corps within the Caldari republic or fight the Gallente,it would be intresting if there was World War between the Empires (Amar/Caldari Vs. Minmatar/Gallente) and have players in those NPC corps be able to fight the other side with out penalty, plus post Exodus i would like to see a system where corps and alliances can with a certain standing, say FE has a 6.00 or more standing with the Caldari they can send fleets to fight like Jerhico who would have a similar rating with the Gallente, so PC combatants can fight NPC wars and thus change the story line of Eve,this can be done also with NPC pirate corps, the victores of these wars would get certain mods and named ships or rare BPO's,like a tech 2 Tachyon Beam bpo for Amar or something. Thus I think those who have trained agent intensive skills can now benefit to a great degree. Plus it would make for some great things, imagine fleets comprised of FE and MASS/P.I.E. against fleets of JF and (insert random Minmatar friendly major corp). I think that would be insane.
Please stop being a third rate flamer,I am tired of reactivating my account just to kick your ass. |

great post. and, yes, the idea is brilliant and would take the game to the next level of role playing. why don't you cross-post this in the 'suggestions' forum or email it directly to ccp, so they really read it. plus, i believe there would be a lot of good writer volunteers from the player base...

CCP hate people getting involved with the story.
Anyone remember when Deathwing tried to kill the emperor and the GM's just insta killed his ship? ( which was never replaced )

well Sutty I wrote this taking into consideration that CCP actually wanted a truely dynamic and indepth game that would take people away from other MMO'S. I have beta tested the majority of the competition to Eve and believe that the PC political arena is more well developed then the rest BUT their NPC arena imo is better, I gave ideas to improve both NPC and PC arenas and NOT take away from either.

CCP have there own idea and story arc I belive(gathered from reading various things from devs and such).
Is it flexable enough for player input and still fit togehter, i have no idea. Then again they could spin anything anyway possible.
