kle¦ma my fellow eve¦rs
i was scouting a enemy territory the other day which made the systems i jumped into, needless to say fill up with enemy ships eager to blast my assault frig into million piece¦s i evaded them with some close encounters here and there. but that made me think, what would be so bad having a feature where, if player whants to hide the name from local channel?
other players could still see the numbers of players in the system both on map and local the character would be shown as unidentified - ufo
you could say well if the map knows how many people are in the system it should be able to know the inhabitants okay sure i get that, introduce a beacon scrambler module all commercial flying jets have a id-beacon which tell the radars which aircraft it is but that is not tamper-proof
sure its just a game BUT I WHANT IT MOMMY !!!!! what ya think should i be clamped /me looks for clamps from futurama

btw Cutie¦s i had a cloacker on thats not the big picture
i think local channel should have optional -show-name-feature sometime it takes the excitement from wandering into unknown territory¦s Respectfull Mermaid of Curse Alliance |

some Rules that could apply
1, station docked people show up in local channel regardless of choice as it is official station conquirable stations have option not give out info if characters choice to
2, character can choice to remain visible/invisible in space as far as identity is concerned cloacking device still acts in the regular manner
3, character within scanning range can be identified if not cloaked in scanner
4, on map you could see number of pilots in system would act as it always has except from the player stations which opts to restrict that info
but other than that i think i should go take the time to actually read the exodus mod¦s coming up because im utterly clueless what is to be implemented

Edited by: ChaosHybrid on 19/11/2004 20:16:06 This subject has been banded about since the beginning of Eve. It has been made pretty clear that local will be staying :(
One problem that does need to be addressed and can be easily done so by the Devs would be adding ALL types of agression onto the kill mails. For instance: when a frig webs/scrambes a BS and calls for support, support comes in and kills the BS. Only the support craft that fired a weapon on the BS will get the credit in the kill mail - even though the kill would not have been possible without the tackler.
So come on CCP - Give the tacklers the credit they are due.

True, LOCAL is staying but in Exodus if you don't speak in LOCAL you won't SHOW in LOCAL. Once you've chatted in the channel your name appears in the user list as it does now but falls off after some time of not chatting again..
I think this fits both worlds IMO and I think is a nice feature...

Not quite right. You have 3 option with all channels, local included. Do not so portraits Show portraits when they speak Always show portraits.
This is how it was in shiva when I played a few days. So you can still see everyone

Yes it looks like the Devs gave in to the carebearist lobby and everyone can choose to see you in local if they like. Which makes you wonder why they added an option to not show people in local as theres no way anyone would be stupid enough to choose not to see people when everyone can see them.
They should at least give us a real cloaking module with the capability to disappear from local, ffs the things have a massive speed penalty, a retarded locking penalty, a retarded no warping penalty and an even more retarded locking after decloaking penalty.
And yet even when cloaked you still show up in local.
God forbid giving the players anything useful that would actually give them the option of NOT sitting at a jumpgate in a large sheepish group popping ships as they warp in or out.

Local is the most retarted, immersion destroying, metagaming POS in EVE. Not only does it destroy the element of suprise, it encourages people to use other really lame tactics, like alt spy's. God forbid anyone have to actually have a designated PC scout in their lil armada.
GET RID OF LOCAL!
And while we are at it, get rid of the other metagaming POS, Pilots in space. Why the hell would anyone have access to this kind of information in character?

I'm really, realy, really disappointed to read here that local chat will still be there. I was really looking forward to being able to surprise people and not having them run for a station or safespot the moment my buddies and me appear in local. It seems the carebears have won another victory in their quest to turn eve into Mining Tycoon I.

This would have been, for me, the most exciting change coming with Shiva. Oh, well....CCP get to it!
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |
