This has probably been suggested many times before, but can we (I) expect a ship ****pit view with a cool layout and everything? ... I am a sucker for 'realism' as far as realism in Eve Online goes
PS. I used the search button to look for a "****pit view" topic, but unable to get some satisfying results.

you are sitting in a dark pod, your view to the outside are small camera drones. their view is feed into your brain through your pod uplink.

I mount a Camera to the front of my ship and stream that feed into my brain via the pod uplink :P

/signed.. sorta
Nigh impossible though such detail may be, duct-taping a camera drone high on the back wall of the bridge, however redundant that bit of the ship is, would still be awesome >.>

The commonly proposed sticky at the top of this forum section would have yielded some results. And by 'satisfying results' did you mean ones where everybody agreed with it cos it was such a wonderful idea?
It's no wonder you found nothing then ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.
Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |

Funny thing really, I did read the uppermost topic in this forum but performing a CTRL+F "****pit" didn't do me any good! So no, like I said, I searched and didn't find. Sorry.
Well if the suggestion was already done (which would be obvious ofcourse) then I would propose for example: - The flying through planets and stations to be altered - A movie sequence when being towed into a station, a simple text popup and immediate entering does not really give me much satisfaction tbh

Or, side thrusters, turning a ship around with only the engines at the back is not very realistic... *nag*nag*

Your ships are huge. Seriously, they're massive. Even a frigate is the size of your local department store. Shuttles are thrice the size of a super jet. There is no capsule-piloting-enabled ship in this game, except perhaps the Burst, that actually has a ****pit anyway.
As such, the chances of actually seeing your maneuvering thrusters fire at anything but maximum zoom is extremely low anyway. Yes, it'd be a nice addition, but not seeing them is easily justifiable and somewhat realistic, to be frank.

IIRC, the smallest frigates are around the size of a 747, and battleships average about 1km long. Someone ported a Merlin model at full size into another game and it took up most of the map. _________________________________

CCP's most recent size chart (to my knowledge). See the little scale comparison, bottom left? Yes, the smallest frigates are about that size. Note those are things like the Dramiel, which is actually a little smaller than a shuttle. Look at most of the Empire frigates. Bar dwarves like the Rapier, they're all about 1/3 the height of the Eiffel tower.
Even at the size of a 747, you'd have to look pretty close for manoeuvring thrusters - they aren't gouts of flame, they're tiny jets, often inert like reactor exhaust or life-support waste.
... I think we may be getting off topic. The point is, only the absolute smallest frigates even have anything resembling a ****pit. Most have a small-ish sized bridge, with a crew of several people but for capsuleer control. But that aside, yes, there is plenty of scope for realism if CCP ever have a few months with no new features to implement or another large-scale visual overhaul.

You can get a rough idea of the ship sizes by going down to the Ship Comparisons links on this site, five categories of ships from frigates to titans compared to RL examples to give a sense of scale.
As you can see from the frigates pic, they're about the size of a commercial airliner.

Edited by: Ti''anla on 08/01/2010 15:33:29 Which is still pretty freaking big. Take into account the four or so additional primary elements a frigate has over a 747, like weapons, drone controls, comprehensive life support, short range and interplanetary drives, and so on, and you've gone from a 747 with a ****pit to something the size of, or larger than, a 747 with a small-ish sized crew and the need for an actual bridge.
And now I promise this is my last post and I'm not going to talk about ship size and extraneous elements anymore in this thread >.>

Let me target other peoples camera drones so they lose UI.
That would be sweet.

Yeah, it's like that. Camera drones are about the size of your hand. Smaller I think.
Chronicles states ships carry a stock of thousands, and it's easier to just launch a new one into the swarm around the ship every time one breaks, as they inevitably do in fire-fights, than make them actually able to survive.
