Heya,
I've just bought myself another account thanks that Steam offer, to start a missionrunner character.
Now, i'm not sure what race ships he should go fly and for what faction he should do missions....
At the moment it's a caldari character but I don't wnt him to fly caldari ships as my main can already do that. I'd like to have him fly an Ishtar, so he can do AFK missions and eventually take him to lowsec or 0.0 for some complexing.
Can you recommend me any faction that he should do missions for? Assuming that each faction needs different damage types and stuff :-)
Oh and while we're at it, what ships should I be using to do level 1, 2, 3, etc. until i can fly the Ishtar? Was thinking something like Vexor as a cruiser to start with... but what frig?

Im not sure if an ishtar can do missions AFK even with the best skills.
But, i do know that Ishtars have an awesome base resists to kin/therm. So doing missions for gallente or caldari would work out best. Since both give you missions against their own pirate faction. (Serp and Guristas) Guristas have nasty ecm and serpentis have sensor damps, whichever you prefer the most.
Basic ships to use, i guess would be something like Tristan/Incursus , Vexor , myrm, dominix, ishtar. Doesnt take that long to skill a domi and your only improving your tanking and drone skills while you do.
Hope you can make sense outta that

Edited by: Nar0k on 05/01/2010 22:29:22 its easy to make 6/10 ded complex with ishtar:) fly into plex, take full aggro run perma ab and medium repairer. start drones make them agressive and come back later to jump into next stage. at least you will need some damage support to kill the last overseer

Thanks for that!
At least now I've got something to skill for :)
Don't think that I'll be doing any lowsec missions anytime soon, so yea i'll stay with either gallente or caldari. Which pays better?

I'll go with this. I have the skills to properly fly an Ishtar in missions and I still have problems with level 4's if I'm not paying attention. Though not as bad as when I started.
Now level 3's, yes, you can AFK those, but what's the point if the money is better in level 4's? Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

The only thing that can keep an Ishtar from AFKing a mission against Guristas is if the spawn waves are prone to aggroing the drones rather than the ship, but in my experience, using Sentries tend to solve that problem as well. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

So, would I be better off using a Dominix for missioning then? The character is still young, so I can easily switch training to something like research/invention.... but then again that takes a lot of ISK to get started. I'm just looking for an alt to make isk, but something that is a non-missile shooter.

Edited by: Herpes Sweatrash on 06/01/2010 10:50:27 Ishtar can afk lvl4s but I think if you get webbed it drops your tank to the same as what you have in a domi anyway. Personally I would just go with Domi for missions till lvl5 you can use passive shield ishtar but you can't really do that afk and need some more dps so not solo.
Edit: Really it don't matter in the end it just comes down to whether you prefer train bs v or cruiser v first to maximise your dps/isk per hour.

I started running level 4's in a Domi. It is a very good mission ship, especially if your skills are average. As your skills improve, you'll be able to pay less attention and take more aggro in it.
I fly an Ishtar as it has some advantages over the Domi that I like. Lower sig, more speed, and agility, but webs can be the death of you if you're not careful.
In the end, all that matters is what you like to fly. Pick a ship that you're comfortable with, train the skills to make it preform better, and have fun.
Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

You can run 8/10 gurista plexes solo in a properly skilled ishtar so how people here are having trouble with lvl 4's i really dont know. Run for caldari and just turn down the angel extravaganza missions and you will be able to do anything. Train towards fit as follows:-
[Ishtar, New Setup 1] Medium Armor Repairer II Medium Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II
10MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Medium Nosferatu II Small Tractor Beam I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Ogre II x5 Hornet II x5 Hammerhead II x5 Bouncer II x5

Switch the 2nd repper for a kinetic hard and the nos for a salvager. It gives you the same tank against guristas and is capstable.
Or try the shield ishtar __________________________________________________

I have run hundreds of Gallente and Minmatar missions with my Ishtar. There are two fits I like. The first is an almost permarunning armor tank (with my skills and implants, you just cannot permarun the salvager and both reps). You can also replace the ANP with a SDA for more drone damage. The second is a rather pricy passive shield tank that is really effective.

The Ishtar is a very fun and effective ship for FW missions or L4s. ...this doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

Woah that one looks nice indeed. Bummer that i'm looking at a 202 days skillplan, but hey that is only 7 or 8 months? Not that high to fly a decent ishtar tbh :) Think i'll do some decent armor and drones skills first. Then go for Cruiser V (or BS4...).
Which ship generally makes more isk/hour? Comparing the ishtar and the dominix...

Your shield fit is similar to mine. If I am belt ratting in Serp 0.0:
Damage Control II Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Nanofiber Internal Structure II Signal Amplifier II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
Prototype Cloaking Device I Salvager II Coreli A-Type Small Remote Armor Repair System [empty high slot] Drone Link Augmentor I
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Garde II x5 Warden II x5 Warrior II x5 Hammerhead II x5
The Salvager II and Remote Repper are offline. I flick them on if I have a juicy faction wreck or a glut of battleships to salvage. Alternatively I use the repper to repair my drones in space.
My carebear fit:
Damage Control II Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Signal Amplifier II
Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender Pithum C-Type Heat Dissipation Amplifier

run missions in gallente, decline all ammar missions and badly afk-able missions,
use a passive shield tank, 2 medium core defence field purgers, 3 t2 amplifiers depending on what mission, shield power relays in low slots, ogres for damage.
dont sit still, always move, orbit a wreck or something similar at about 5k
this fit / technique will easily tank entire rooms where most ships cant, so very good for afk piloting, just make sure ur scouts take out webbers etc or else you will suffer

I have my main in Serpentis 0.0 as well, but I'm not sure if I should do highsec, FW, 0.0 missions with my alt? The idea off course is to have it somewhere safe in highsec but on the other hand, isk is made in 0.0
Edit: Sorry, this is Capt 0bvious alt ^^
