There should be something that will prevent crazy people like my from changing my skill training every day because I change my mind on what ship I want to drive in the next couple months. I can never get any ships or skills trained because I am constantly changing my skill training. CCP should make a custom lock that you can personally apply on your skill training to stop you from changing it until it is trained. Only if you want it on, if you do not just don't activate the lock.

But tehn people would rage quit because they cant change there skill....
the same people that need to change constantly are the ones who would flip out once they turn the lock on and cant turn off the 50day skill.

we'll just make a deal: whenever you edit your skillqueue thus removing or replacing skills from that queue you wire 10M isk to me.
That'll work trust me :)

why not set a note on your computer that will let you know when you have under 24-hours left on a skill train (and thus can queue up another). And unless the note says so, you don't even ever open your skills tab (i was going to say character sheet, but you will probably occasionally need to jump clone).
Its how i manage my skills. whenever i queue up a skill, i check the time til completion, figure out a time when i'll be online when the skill has under 24-hours left, and i don't touch my skills outside of that time.

Simple.
Rig a piece of hard plastic with a rubber glove on it to your computer. Whenever you try to access your skill tab it slaps the **** out of you.
Try placing it around the area of the family jewels for maximum effect. I found out that its only a temporary measure, since after a few months you get used to it and start enjoying it..

Rifters look fun, might train one and do some level 1s for lulz... hmm.. no projectile skillz... damn, standings to low, need to train diplomacy... wait a second, this is pretty slow... let's try a Kestrel, i only need to train 1 more in Caldari frigates... damn, don't have very high missile skills, let's chuck those in... hmm, maybe I was better off back in the Rifter...
20 days passed... wtf why am i doing level 1 missions??

I sympathise with the OP. Whilst Evemon is a great piece of kit, it doesn't stop the wayward tendancies to skill swap. Esp. When your fellow corp mate demonstrates his latest uber module/ship that you just have to have!
Sadly, the ONLY solution is patience.

Do you agree or disagree????????
Buy the ship and fit you want to you use. You then have at least a little more incentive to stick to learning the skills to get in it. If you want more incentive, buy a few of them. |

I found myself in the same position at once, I decided I'd train for a carrier 3-4 times but always found something else to train. But then however, I decided I'd find a way to stick to my plan. I bought EVERY skill I'd need for the ship except for Capital Ships and Racial carrier to ensure I didn't waste a couple hundred million in skills I'd never train. It's worked so far and almost a month later, I haven't sidetracked.

Edited by: Francesca Villa on 12/01/2010 01:10:38 First, my rule is only to add to skill queue, never to change skills.
This way, I at least get something done in the short term.
Second, it's only a matter of time, at first there are tons of skills to train, but as time goes on, you'll finish all the short skills and will have to start choosing the longer skills regardless. Even if you only train frigate skills, eventually you'll be a skilled frigate pilot, even if you are multi-racial. Then you'll have to move on.
EDIT: I should add that necessity will drive you to train the necessary skills, such as being in 0.0 and needing combat skills. It'll be better when you have what you need already, and then you aren't just choosing something because you think you need it (Frigate V, Small Projectiles V, Evasive Maneuvering V) but because you foresee it being useful to you at some point in the future (Weapons Upgrades V, Spaceship Command V, Gunnery V, etc)

Too right!
And the day after you get into it CCP brings the nerf hammer down on it, wrecking for "LOL, that ship sucks now!" damage. Or the day after you get into it someone comes along and giggles at you and BBQs it without breaking a sweat.

Find a decent fit in evemon for the ship you'd like to fly, add all the required skills to the plan, and stick to it. Easy as pie...nomnomnom. Seriously though, if you keep changing your plan on a regular basis it just means that you haven't done enough research. Read the guides out there and figure out what most people regard the best ship, setup and skills for your career. Eventually you'd want to experience yourself, but you should definitely know your do's and dont's first.

Confirming that this works. I was pretty inconsistent with my skill training plan right up until I joined my first 0.0 corporation. That got me straight-lined right away. I discovered what I needed, and what I liked, and I went after it. When you have a specific goal in mind, you'll stay the course.
Edit: Although, you and I and others like us will probably end up training everything anyways. It's simply a question of which we want first. --- Earning Isk Basic Skills

If in doubt, train supports. You will always use more capacitor, more powergrid, EHP or speed. Then when your focus returns, the ship of your choice will be that much more powerful.

Just recently I got the 1 hour warning on gallente BS 5, having not logged into that character since I set it training. I immediately had a nice glowy feeling, same as when I finished amarr bs 5. Then I had a moment of pause. And realized that I don't even fly my domis anymore, and that the Kronos is blowful. I let it finish, then switched to mini bs 5. *sigh* Sometimes you should keep reminding yourself why you're training a skill.

The worst is being somewhat OC on games like this....
Oh I have 3 or 4 processing skills I can slide (3 hours here, 9 hours there). Make use of the new skill queing...
THen what should have been a 3 to 4 day Rank 1 to level 5 ends up being 3-4 skills to level 3 and that rank 1 ends up taking 10 days even 11......

What you can do, is: Find something you think is interesting, then start training for it. Then stop caring about Eve. Continue along the path, and eventually, you'd be flying that ship, and then you can return to Eve and be happy and pew/mine/haul/??? with great efficiency! -------------------------- 2 Years later, mining continues to be the most overlooked game mechanic in Eve |

UGH....tell me about it...i've been training learning skills for about a month now...been flying around in a destroyer getting my ass kicked in LVL2 missions...LOL
many times i've thought about getting off my plan and just train up combat and ship skills. Once thing that helps me is the fact that I've remapped my attributes. Forcing me to train all the support skills and learning skills first. After all that is done, I remap to precep and will to start training for all the ship and gun skills.
Since you only get two remaps a year, it kinda forces me to stick to the plan....
It just sux that It'll be like 2 months later till I can start flying the ships I want... what i do is just set the skill queue and go play another game to kill the time. ---------------------------------- Pew Pew is what I do.... |

You start out with 2 remaps, but you only get them a year after the last you used and they do not add up to my knowledge of what I have read on previous threads.
