I've met a few Greek players, at gun point though. Doesn't mean we didn't have a nice chat later, playing with lots of Greeks in another game. |

I personally have run with people from Portugal, South America, Europe and here in the U.S. I believe the game is world wide, and the Other catagory encompasses many nationalities that would otherwise show up in the less than 1% catagory.
While a great deal of the eve population speaks English (sometimes very poorly) to expect everyone to speak the same language is very ethnocentric.
I have met several South African players who's english is poor, but they have spoken Dutch or Afrikans (*sp?). Those that find themselves in this game, and aren't able to speak english tend to migrate to groups/corps of people like themselves.

I'm from Guatemala, I live in Spain and my wife is from Ukraine... Obviously my loyalties are pretty much screwed up
I agree that most people who would want to play this game would do so in English, as it makes things easier
Now, if I just can get my wife to teach me some russian... ------ No good deed goes unpunished... |

I'm quite positive that my German is better than my English and your Italian, so you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. :P

Greece has a decent number of players. There is one big greek rzr corp for sure apart from all the other players who belong to big alliances or play in smaller groups.I guess we keep a low profile and noone notices.

why there are not mediterranean players. Its not like we are in feudal age... there are computers and cable lines, etc. and people play other mmo like wow, guild wars, and so.

I lived in South Korea for three years (I am from the US)
There is only one game in Korea, and that is:
starcraft
Every block in the city has 4-5 PC shops for starcraft. I tried to get some Korean friends into Eve, But eve is not starcraft, so they kept playing starcraft. 4 of the channels on my TV (out of 300ish) were starcraft techniques and strategies 24/7. Good stuff.

Eve goes well with drinking, hence lots of Russians and Germans. However, Eve contains absolutely no six-year-olds with cat ears and miniskirts hiked up high enough to see their panties. Ergo, Japanese players are completely disinterested.

Originally by: Sawyer LaFleur I still haven't figured out if these Russians break down in the same demographic groups as a US players ... and gee, isn't it a heck of a lot harder to earn playing time in their currency? i.e doesn't $13 a month US feel to them as it might feel for us to pay like $60 a month ?
You have to relate these numbers to total population living in each country.
United States38,12% - 304 million people living in the states United Kingdom 11,83% - 61 million Germany 9,19% - 82 million Canada 5,18% - 32 million Russia - 6,40% - 141 million Australia 3,48% - 21 million Netherlands 2,23% - 16 million France 2,31% - 62 million Sweden 1,99% - 9 million Denmark 2,04% - 5.4 million
Assuming even distribution of multiple account owners, in US we have 1 out of 2666 people you would meet on the street playing EVE. Denmark - 1 out of 900 Sweden - 1 out of 1500 UK - 1 out of 1723 Australia - 1 out of 2011 Canada - 1 out of 2133 Netherlands - 1 out of 2391 Germany - 1 out of 3037 Russia - 1 out of 7343
EVE Online is not nearly as popular in Russia at all as it is in richer developed countries such as UK, Sweden, and Netherlands. Surprisingly neither is it as popular in Germany as in those countries.
Originally by: Caroline Nikon Moskva is a place much more expensive to live than almost anywhere in US. More expensive than NY also. So no... that is not a reality for someone that like in core russian regions.
Position of Moscow reflects the general situation in the country. There is extremely unequal distribution of wealth with a small percent of population owning a lot of it, and everyone else being very poor. Moscow might be the most expensive place to live in the world but the remainder of the country exists in borderline poverty.
This is extreme stratification also shows up in game. You would have one very rich Russian player purchasing hundreds of game time codes that he would then sell at subsidized prices to his Russian corp/alliance mates, all of whom cannot afford pay for the game with real currency and have to grind ISK to purchase PLEXes each month.

For a majority of the Japanese to be attracted to this game, I believe we'd have to have more metro-sexual-young-and crazy-colored-hair looking avatars. I know that's a generalization and an assumption, but, just sayin'.
