Hey crew, maybe y'all can help me out.
I had the bright idea of turning on the colortags to show me statuses of people in the local channel, but it ain't working like I expect it to.
The "has horrible standing" (f'rinstance) doesn't seem to generate a colortag, even when the checkbox in overview settings is checked. The "has horrible standing and is an outlaw" (the red-background skull) works, but I bet it's only because of the GCC flag.
(Overview Settings | Appearance | Colortag is that I tried to use.)
So... am I right in assuming that the avatar colortags in the local channel do NOT, in fact, follow the overview settings for colortags? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hmm, "personal or corporation standing". I'm guessing that won't reflect "security standing". 
Ok, I think I got it.

Ok, so here's the popup text on the "outlaw" colortag:

true if pilot has worse than -5.0 security status or has aggressed against you and can be attacked everywhere
So, maybe the ORs and ANDs might be doing something goofy, but... if I see somebody w/security standing -9.2 in local, and this colortag is selected, shouldn't they be showing up with the white-on-red skull colortag on their avatar in the local channel, regardless of the GCC flag?

It might be useful if you make a few screenshots of the overview settings and upload them on for example imageshack and link that here so we can see your current settings.

This shows everything I was talking about, I think: my overview colortag settings, a character w/low security status in my local chat channel, and the popup text over the "is an outlaw" tag, showing the help text I quoted above.
So, are there some conditions (and what are they?) under which colortags don't show on avatars in the local chat channel?

I had a similar problem with corp/fleet symbols not showing up in chat lists. It persisted for several months but now seems to be fixed. I submitted a bug report with such a screen shot as you have shown here and was told that it's a known issue.
No whether it being corrected is a result of my bug report or something else, I am not totally sure, but it's worth putting in a bug report with your screenie to see if they can correct it for you.
