Hulks provide minerals and can be replaced by covetors or mining battleships which are very close in output. Hulks are easy to kill.
Freighters move minerals and everything you can imagine and jump freighters, orcas or rigged industrials do not come close to their capacity. Considerably less freighters would have to die to have the same impact as killing a few thousand hulks. miners-you can: switch, rob, wardec, nerf, scam them, buy below market, pirate them on their way to sell. mining < trading, ratting, manufacturing from market bought minerals, they still wont go away |

But require much more coordination and a large number of BS. That would be work and we're lazy, plus the way we do it now... that is, run around randomly and shoot at anything that has a mining laser on it, harder for the "Hulkageddon Intel" channel of which over half the people in are hulkageddon participants to actually provide any intel

It's just too bloody hard to take down a freighter without serious-ish organisation given the alpha needed; hulkageddon is fun because of the random drive-by's and easy explosions.

While entirely possible to do, this would require a level of organization that is significantly higher than ganking an exhumer, the reason hulkageddon works is because anyone can join in.
I see ad-hoc gangs being formed in the hulkageddon channel by people that do not actually know one another, and going out and succesfully destroying a target. I don't really think that would happen with freighters...
...I'm sure I'll think of something else soon enough though

Shigsy organised a one off freighter gank a few months ago. Pulling it off as part of a protracted campaign though... outside of one or two corps who were that way inclined... not going to happen. Logistical nightmare.

hmmm.....Freighters are tough, but I think the earlier poster was correct. OrcaGeddon sounds good as well as industGeggon.
full disclosure, i an a carebear, but this is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
Blowing up inudustrials and a .....well, industrial scale would have a much larger impact on the eve economy than even hulkageddon.

I love how you guys are turning feral. You are the single best weapon to have highsec nurfed into the ground an its gonna be all your own fault. Well done. Young ones have a problem when you give them a mechanic to just cut loose. They have no off switch an wont moderate themselves in anyway because it is seen as "cool" to be as bigger ****head as possible.
I will bet 100 mil right now CCP will crash insurance or turn off pvp all together in highsec an make it "wow" zone'esk
So please keep it up, start killing freighters an orcas an everything els, CCP will come down hard :)
I do find one thing sad though for the non gank crowd. That is all the miners today have got soft, none seems to remember the days of Jihad which itself forced CCP to destroy highsec fun for everyone. This gank rubbish was a daily thing an just part of playing EVE. But it wasn't the feral lord of the flys that this is. If anyone remembers, the intel on GF in Genesis when the hulks started dieing would spread like wildfire an we all new when an where they were at any given time.
Still, keep it up lads we can ahve the second "impact" as such when CCP finish what they started 2 years ago thanks to goon lol

As a dedicated carebear, I *highly* doubt that CCP would simply turn off PvP altogether. That goes directly against the spirit of EVE, and I doubt that CCP has the desire to do such a thing. I might even stop playing EVE myself if they did, even though I haven't suicide ganked anyone ever in my life. EVE would lose it's uniqueness which makes it such a great game. I have said this before, but part of what makes EVE so great for me is the exhilaration you feel when you avoid getting decloaked by a MWDing interdictor by about 200m, or managing to escape a gate camp back into high sec with less than half your structure left, and yes, even the exhilaration you feel when as you lose your ship. I am a terrible PvPer, yet PvP is one of the most exciting parts of the game, even for a victim to "non-consentual" PvP such as myself.
I would actually be in support changes to insurance, but not for the reasons you might think. I actually could see CCP removing insurance for suicide gankers, or possibly even getting rid of insurance entirely. If CCP did this, this could give way to player run insurance, which would definitely be a lot fairer, dynamic and robust. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

Imagine how many dozens of Hulks you can gank while you're getting organized to gank a SINGLE freighter.
That's why they don't attack freighters: you destroy many times more isk/hour by killing Hulks.

20 tempests could do it.
If they all had near perfect skills and 5% turret dmg and large proj dmg implants 15 could do it.
What do you think average value of a freighter's cargo is?

My noobcorp alt empire freighter pilot disapproves this train of thought...
Anyway, on a more serious note - a *lot* of 0.0 alliance logistics run in empire in "unmarked" freighters to avoid wardecs, with cargo moving from a normal freighter, moving only to a JF at a suitably unremarkable border system before disappearing into deep 0.0 space.
Hulkageddoning a bunch of mining ships in empire and all you harvest is noob tears. No 0.0 alliance pilot would ever mine in empire - we have 0.0 space for that, plus mining requires certain type of brain damage that is commonly found only in empire carebears.
Suicide gank freighters and happen to pop one that actually belongs to a big alliance and you run the risk of stirring up something. Those guys do not cry CCP for help.
Those pilots who have mains in 0.0 would also probably not bother simply because they risk causing epic drama if the freighter turns out to be owned by a blue (or by a neutral party who then blows a gasket over it and, well, again - drama). Contrary to what you may think, many 0.0 dwellers want to avoid unexpected drama - there's plenty of pew pew without causing diplomatic incidents that may degenerate into shooting wars. Enough emorage pilots looking for the slightest excuse around and all that...

15x Stealth bombers could also do this. They actually out-volley tempests if they use bombs and torps (13k without implants, vs 12.5k tempest with implants).
You can't fire bombs in high sec. They could, you'd never be able to undock from jita 4-4 with all the bombs flying around, especially considering you could probably fire off a SECOND bomb before the firs went off giving you GCC... PS: This is not part of my signature

I can see 3 ways to gank a freighter.
(1) Low Sec or Nul Sec. Anyone flying a freighter there without escort or at LEAST good scouting deserves to die.
(2) War Dec their corp.
(3) suicide a fleet of probably 15-20 battleships (10 if you're willing to spend money like water on a GOOD high-alpha fit that insurance won't come close to covering). Yes, Virginia, freightrers are TOUGH - Charon has 6k sheilds (so-so resists), 20k armor (poor resists), and over 130k structure (no resists) - the other frieghters are close to those numbers. that is a LOT of damage to chew through in the short time you get before Concord smashes your fleet.
Orcas in base form aren't quite as tough - but they can be UPGRADED (freighters like shuttles and pods have NO fitting slots) - it is easily possible to get an Orca to 300k EHP, and just fitting a DC 2 probably makes an Orca tougher than any freighter - though most high-sec orcas will have cargo + mining link fits, they can STILL fit a fairly decent shield tank to their otherwise "useless" mid-slots. A Low-Sec or NulSec orca on its own is a rare bird, but probably HAS specced out a good defensive setup - including a warp stab or two. Bring a GOOD tackler, not just some random ship with a single disrupter fitted. 8-P
Jump freighters spec out for defence pretty much identical to the freighter they are based on - they lose a ton of HOLD to fit their jump drive, not defences.
Industrials, on the other hand, tend to be easy kills.

And i already explained to the OP in the HAG channel why his idea was full of fail and had no merit, but he insisted on posting here and making sure everyone knew he was.
too much effort, too little reward, and tbh, nowhere near the lols.
Quote: You can't fire bombs in high sec.
thats the kind of expert advice that keeps me subscribed. Protip: stealth bombers are capable of using other weapons than bombs.

Hulks provide a LOT more mining output than a Covetor, which provides a lot more mining output than any Mining Battleship setup.
I suspect Chribba's VELDNAUT can't match the mining output of a RETRIEVER, much less a Covetor - and even a max-skill max-mining-throughput mining Battleship is hard pressed to match a minimal-skills Retriever.
On the other hand, you're welcome to try to suicide gank my freighter any time - you might manage to drop the shields since the resists on them are pathetic and freighters CAN'T be upgraded, but I bet you don't break the armor.
Don't get me started on how tough a tank-rigged ORCA can get - though they'er not QUITE as tough in stock form, or in the normal "highsec max cargo" loadouts.
