Mine was originally purchased for this too. Every merc with a limited budget needs a freighter to move rigged cruisers. The HAC, HIC, Recon, and Logi collection can get real big & you always want to have the right tool for the job. Keeping duplicates all over the place is too damn expensive. |

I've got 3 Freighters, my first was necessary for my mineral trading business back days. After that I recon that Freighter is foremost best afk hauling ship, if you will not put to much in to it, it will just pass whole highsec without beeing bothered. Just dont put expensive stuff in to it.

I bought my providence because it looked good. Real good.
Add to that, there is nothing my thrilling than flying a loaded freighter around 0.0 and surviving to tell the tail.
It lives in high sec now collecting dust but occasionally moves my gear around and sorts out bulk movements as people say above - its really useful when its needed.
It has '0.0' branded on the side though from its successful solo tour through every 0.0 region in the game before people started using jump drives.

I bought my first obelisk 3-4 years ago. I needed it for mineral trading and building freighters. Obelisk had the largest capacity, which meant I could cram more minerals in to each trip. -- I'm looking to join a corp. Message me in game if you want a skilled and trustworthy trader/researcher/manufacturer.

Edited by: Gabriel Rosencrantz on 22/01/2010 17:59:59 I bought mine to join Red Frog Freight. The first freighter I ever saw was one of theirs. I saw it while hauling around Quafe and Antibiotics in my industrial, and I thought hey, you could carry a lot of Quafe in that thing. At the time, it never occurred to me how hard it might be to get that much Quafe. Glad I bought the freighter but still haven't gotten that much Quafe together. |

Bleh, is this true? I thought this was one of the uses of a freighter, the ability to move rigged ships without repackaging and destroying the rigs? (Not that my understanding is based on research or anything ... just baseless assumptions).
Or is there another type of ship that does this?
This was it's specialty before the Orca and became it's specialty again after the courier size restrictions were updated to reflect freighter sized bays.
There was a brief twelve month period where the Freighter was reduced to mineral hauler, per say, as the Orca could move 400k m3 in rigged ships on its own (battlecruiser or smaller), and had a fun corporate hangar that was ungankable to carry everything else in, but you could not wrap a rigged battleship in a courier to get it moved with a Freighter until very recently.
