They've been punished more than those who used game mechanics equally as creatively, like insurance fraud, refining POS bits into PI components, refined PA into nocx, used tracking titans to take over whole regions etc. But by all means, let's call the exploitation of a programming bug exactly the same thing as creative usage of a game mechanic.
