Yes...I used it. I liked the way things looked and it worked well with my card's AA. So it's gone because?
CCP should have implemented in game AA before doing this. ___________________________________________________ Idea: Train 3 alts at the same time solution. |

I suspect that for the great many of us, "medium" shader only gave us the shading quality of "low" but the processor load of "high".

Edited by: Manus McVee on 21/01/2010 22:03:45 I was shocked when i launched the game after the patch. I just stared at a black screen under my GUI. Then I found out I had to set my shaders to low because high doesn't work on my graphics card. I still haven't adjusted my eyes to the hideous graphics. The game looks like Homeworld in the 90s now...
With Apocrypha I could play the game on all high settings. Then came Dominion 1 and I had to switch the textures to medium because planets didn't show correctly anymore. Now with Dominion 1.1 I had to set to low shaders and the game suddenly looks worse than it did two patches ago.
Please please please bring back the medium shaders, if at all possible. The game looks really bad for me right now. |

They said the cost to maintain it was not worth it for the lack of people using it (or something along those lines). Wasn't worth it basically. Simple business decision, it may not be the best as far as some people are concerned but it makes sense. ---------------- A million faces, each a million lies |

You wouldn't happen to have a link by any chance, because I've seen the question being raised in numerous places, but not a single answer. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Well...it looks like my card is having trouble with the high setting, so now I'm forced to stick with the crappy "low" setting.
Thanks CCP for improving my game-play experience...I guess you dont want my money. ___________________________________________________ Idea: Train 3 alts at the same time solution. |

I have a decent graphic card and computer but high always caused major lag (only in EVE, other games were fine on high shading) Why CCP changed this I don't know. Their graphic options suck anyway so I'm hardly surprised.

Bah. Sucks. Still, I wonder when they did the data collection on that, seeing as how I had to downgrade to medium after Dominion was released. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

...and more users use "low"?
Sounds more like an executive decision made without any thought.

You'd be surprised, the reason you don't hear the people who it's working for rebutting you is because they're in game having fun. Me? I'm waiting for my Chem lecture
Hey, it's an excuse to upgrade to a new card, isn't it?

BAH!!
I upgraded when Apocrypha came out.
What, I'm going to upgrade my hardware everytime there is a new patch?

or you can upgrade to a card that wont go out of date every few months. it makes more sense in the long term, and the graphics will look oh so good.

If there's one thing I've come to learn about CCP, it's that they think about every aspect in the game and how it affects everything else around it...I might go as far to say they OVER-think sometimes.

Yeah so do i, i wish they would nerf DX9 and move to DX10 or better and make all these whiners upgrade their 5 year old crap computers that struggle to run this game. Just so i can see the fap fap fap whine whine whine show.

I have been pretty much using low since premium lite. and somehow it seems worse than before, I saw an fps increase in premium light from classic on this laptop, but well lately it has just been very meh. jumping into a bunch of ships causes problems, warping to a new planet causes the planet textures to go a bit wonky while the comp figures out what it is supposed to look like.
I'd bug report but it is such a pain in the ass.

So EVE players either have the latest nuclear powered video cards or a hamster in a a wheel?

Define "Decent"
I've got an nVidia 9800 GTX, not very new these days, but certainly not old. _NO_ problems. Here, or elsewhere. Note that your card isn't the only thing that effects performance. CPU speed, RAM speed, Graphics card bus (I _hope_ you aren't still using AGP or... even PCI)

If they cut out the low setting, then people would complain because they could no longer play the game at all (because they would have to purchase new hardware). By cutting out the medium setting, everyone on that setting can either go to the high setting, or the low one, and can still play the game. |

This does not bode well for the comp I run my alt on - Athlon 64 3200 with a 7600GS 512MB graphics card. I'm fairly certain it won't run the game at anything approaching decent FPS on high, which is why I was running it on medium. Low is going to suck. Hopefully it doesn't result in me missing stuff I need to see to PvP effectively. We'll see.
On the plus side, the comp I run my main on can easily handle maxxed settings. |

I have two computers which can both render with "high" shader and "high" texture detail, but I can't actually play the game. Since I dual (and tri- and quad-) box often, I switch the detail to "low" simply because the game actually becomes playable.
The 24" iMac at work on the other hand is capable of running one client at full resolution with shader detail right up. But only one - the video only has 256MB of RAM. I have to switch shaders to "low" to run two or more clients on that machine.
So in my case, the "medium" setting is useless on any computer I have access to.
