If you can play the game on low settings then you have no say. If you want to play it prettier then you know what you've got to do and whining isnt it.
It was prettier on medium, and I was happy with that. But it's been taken away so in effect, the game has downgraded for me.
As for all the "runs fine in my system" people here: so why the fluck are you posting here? STFU and go play your game.
Originally by: Wet Ferret Allow me to reiterate for the career morons in this thread: my card runs this game on high just fine. It just looks bad. Medium looked the best of the three, with less visual garbage on the screen like the layer of fog in my station (and low is just bland, colorless crap). Without AA most structures look awful from a medium distance as well, which was fine on medium.
My case exactly. ___________________________________________________ ...and the medium shader setting had to go because? |

Originally by: Lazarann They said the cost to maintain it was not worth it for the lack of people using it (or something along those lines). Wasn't worth it basically. Simple business decision, it may not be the best as far as some people are concerned but it makes sense.
Oh well a simple business decision ok. Before patch i could play on high setting after patch was told after black screen low settings and now i cant play eve on this account with no settings thus the account has to be deleted cause it no longer can be played on this computer. Maybe good business to lose accounts because of a bad patch "decision" but ok it is their game and choice. I still have my main so only losing 50% of there business with me:)

Uhhh, cost too much time and effort to maintain only 3 graphics settings? lolwut? I call BS. Freeware games can have 3 graphic settings easy and I'd played FPS games with a myriad of settings along with other MMORPGs that have had 7 different graphic settings.
Your graphics/coding people are lazy and feeding you BS. Tell them to do their job or gtfo.
Originally by: Jim Raynor EVE needs danger, EVE needs risks, EVE needs combat, even piracy, without these things, the game stagnates to a trivial game centering around bloating your wallet with no purpose.

A disgruntled ex- medium shader user here. I have a GTX 280 card that can run the highest settings fine but I would need the overhead performance for running 1-3 additional accounts (all on lowest settings) and things like FRAPS...
So, bring back the medium shader, it looked tons better than the "low" one while not hitting my system much. ____________________________________________________________

some of us tend to run multiple clients at once.
using high clients use too much cpu and ram, using low, all clients look fugly..
Gooo CCP, another of your brilliant decisions, but like they care? Seen any dev reply in this thread??
Nah, they rather turn off server with 50k ppl on then read their customers opinions..

Based on some of these replies, more people used medium than low...so you got your data from where CCP? ___________________________________________________ ...and the medium shader setting had to go because? |

CCP is just starting to purge the low end users in preparation for using DX10 in Eve.
I can dream, can't I?

Yep, i hope its the first step to splitting the client again, low settings for all the whiners with their Dell laptops from 2002. Infact, they should make the current high settings the new 'medium' and give the rest of us a long awaited upgrade. (oh the horror )

No, that would be a silly and wasteful dream. DX10 was more or less obsolete on release and they'd be stupid to put it into the game. If they're going to jump anywhere, it'll be to DX11. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Their reason is "no one used it." I think what they meant is "none of our staff used it." ___________________________________________________ ...and the medium shader setting had to go because? |

You know, my computer is more than 5 years old now and I still have no trouble running on high, I do turn bloom off though because its an eyesore for me. It's on its last legs though, since they won't be making any better AGP cards (HD 3850) or DDR1 memory (4gb OCZ Platinum) than I have now.
Hell, this thing even runs GTA IV, albeit on lower settings.

Gotta love people complaining that "decent" cards cant handle High shaders, and when you ask them it turns out those decent cards are 5 years old and cost $15.

Gotta love people who offer comments without understanding what the issue is, thus making their comments completely pointless. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Wow, I am sorry guys but some of these posts make it sound like people complaining are "whining" about some game ship or gun nerf. In fact, if it was a ship or gun nerf we probably would have seen a hell of a lot more communication it was coming. Some people had their entire game experience changed with little or no notification. It didn't effect you? Great, but please don't roll in here with your "HTFU" nonsense.
Is it that difficult to imagine you patch your game one day and "BOOM!" your graphics or performance is borked? Not because of server stability or bugs but because the Dev team just thought it was to "complex" for them to manage. One day you might find yourselves on the other end of this issue, so please just let people inform the Devs over their dissatisfaction. Maybe, just maybe, the Dev team will think twice before making these types of changes willy-nilly.
As for myself, I can run the High Shader, although it is darker then what I accustomed to and obviously has a bit of a performance hit. Do I want the Medium Shader back? You bet but I am posting more about the dissatisfaction by which they communicated this change, their reasons for implementing it and sliding it into some obscure patch.
Still not convinced? I recommend you load some other MMO's and review the advance graphics options. Heck, my DDO has more options and, wait for it……"MEDIUM SHADERS!".

My card is an ATI Radeon HD 4600 series and it has issues with the hi-shader. So I support bringing back the medium shader. ___________________________________________________ CSM - Bring back Medium Shader! |

Can afford four accounts, cant afford proper graphics card. Lets go out of our way to make sure you have everything you need.

Yeah no.

4850 can more than handle this game on high settings
Drivers were last checked around the 27th of December. Can't hurt to check again, I suppose. And it runs 1 client perfectly fine, even at 1920x1080. Knock the res down and run a second account, and the FPS drops dramatically (a fixed 60 fps to 8-12ish), unless I go to interval immediate, which starts to run the graphics card hot.
havent read the whole thread yet. however, use ati tray tool to 'overclock' your gpu and memory from 2D settings to 3D settings in windowed mode. due to the way ati's drivers work, they will underclock the card when the game is running in non-fullscreen. from 900/750 down to 507/500...

When you cancel your subscription, there's a feedback form that asks why you are leaving. That's your best bet at CCP hearing you. Posting about your problems on the forums only gets you "cry some more" community response.

In order to play post Domin I had to go from High to med to avoid horrible lag (rather than just lag) now post 1.1 Im at low settings and it looks horrible and exploration is way to difficult and I still have horrible lag.......figure its time I took a break till something gets fixed.

I think alot of people mistake this 'problem' as one solely connected to an increase\decrease in graphics requirement.
In my oppinion it is NOT. It is however a very, very good argument to make CCP start work on making the code alot more multi-client capable as they have stated they'd like to do in previous fanfests. It is true that multiple clients could share resources rather than the way its done today. If this is realised then there is your cpu, ram and gpu, vram savings that everyone requires.
This shouldnt be a reason to demand crappy graphics code back but rather to improve it.
