this new expansion has brought us many spectacular new features such as:
new FC commands improving strategic advantages in massive 0.0 fleet warfare: "node has crashed, all relog" "just tackle what u can" "set all ur setups to as minimal as you can"
new topics to smacktalk about in local: "lets have each side just pick their best pilot and have them decide the final result?" "1200+ in local, feels just as laggy as Jita about a year ago inhere"
new game play experiences: "look at a 1 frame per 3 seconds framerate taking bets with corpmates weither ur ship still exists or not" "Ship out of control" "i just ended up in the middle of nowhere" "Race the clock, timers everywhere"
at least they made one thing perfectly clear before the launch of all this. the carebears would be pulling the longer end of this all.

You need a new pc, for server side lag locals should just be limited to 1k with balanced numbers until they fix it.

With a new PC you can experience 60 fps locked to vsync of an empty grid while you watch damage messages.
I also get a steady 60fps while looking at the "entering space" bar, but somehow I don't think that is the experience he is looking for. --- I spent 3 months in Delve, and all I got was a lousy Shrike mail

I'm just loving the new feature of being unable to use the right click functions while in fleet, which even multiple relogs isn't fixing. Certainly makes jumping through titans, jump bridges, warping to fleet members etc loads of fun.

Agreed. Nothing beats having the FC say "Warp to <member>", having them x up in fleet... and then only get the options to "Copy", "Copy All", and "Toggle Timestamp" when you right click them.
Actually, I take that back. The only thing that beats that is listening to the FC bark orders while you're staring at a screen saying "Entering game as <player>..."

to fix that right click thing, keep on dropping and rejoining fleet until it fixes itself (you can leave fleet by clicking the little triangle up top left corner in fleet window...)

This is intended as a temporary solution to blob warfare
Seriously though, you can fix it without relogging, and someone beat me to it :)

I can recall a fight from my memories. We were in the middle of the Max campaign, just before (or after?) Quantum Rise had been launched. Local topped at 1200. Though MWD's didn't use cap, we experienced only a slight module lag and everything was playable during the fight. There were "thanks CCP!!!" and "congrats!" topics started, just after the fight on CAOD.
So what happened, CCP sold their 'quantum computers'? |

I too remember fights with 1200 in local, obviously some rubber banding, gun activation delay, and some side effects, but it was far better than what happens post dominion.
Regardless of what side you are on, waiting 40mins looking at a black screen just so you can turkey shoot some empty spaceships before you lose connection and find out on ts it is you that is being shot while logged out, is not fun for anybody.
You have my e-sympathies

Edited by: Depili on 24/01/2010 22:45:36 Yeah, first wait for 30 min to load the hostile bridge grid, then wait 30mins for the node to be rebooted, then wait 30min on the black screen, then wait 10min to warp to friendly tower, and while there wait for 30min for ship to move anywhere...
Also featured in this high adrenaline thriller were a ship warping to friendly tower, 10min later a wreck of said ship appears next to it, 20min later another wreck of the same ships appears next to it, 10min later said ship takes damage, 20min later said pilot gets out of his ship in a pod...
Also new lines in voice comms: "I take it that your ships wreck appearing next to it is bad?" "Sebastian, it's even worse to have two wrecks appear next to ones ship" "Am I still logged in?" "Did I die?"
Not to mention the numerous ghost ships and pods everywhere.
Nice thrilling massive fights you have there ccp, good thing that you are excellent and the best there is as per your song....

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. It's nice to see a smack-free topic (until now at least) on CAOD finally. Quite a shame we all needed these circumstances to achieve that but still, it's good to see.
My thoughts exactly, today both sides wasted half of the day of their life and we all lost an opportunity to have an awesome fight. I really don't care who "won" the battle ISK-wise nor who got more kills, the experience is ruined either way. |

good. hopefully this will stop the whining on forums (disbelief that a game cant handle thousands in systems fighting it out in several places at once when it had trouble handling 200 just a couple of years ago - u think the icelandics are hiding quantum computers in their offices or something seriously?)

I Didn't say i wasnt expecting lag but how is anything supposed to get done when the node crashes as soon as there is a thousand people in local.. should we all disband and break into smaller alliances. There are no more fair fights as soon as local reaches 500+ it seems. maybe its time to think about having another server if they cant handle this many people in 1 ... just a thought

as was mentioned in a thread here the other day (titled 'Dominion') a combination of game mechanics with a change in strategies played out by the alliances and their wagontrain of naps would solve the situation.
An enemy empire need not be taken one gruelling node bashing battle at a time. The ubernap fests of 0.0 can easily spread these forces around to hit multiple places at once - the fear that the enemy are bringing more to the fight is what fuels the blobbage and the napfests. the lack of confidence in their own abilities (to an extent at least, when we're getting to the numbers being deployed into a system now its also down to hoping u have more guys that dont crash than the enemy has, or perhaps a lack of FCs in certain alliances? :P)...
