will you also be testing jumping/bridging from a standard node to a reinforced one ? or is it identical regardless of the status of a node ?

hope sisi will handle it, FD- starts crashing on sisi anytime more than 200 people are in there.
Seriously CCP if you want a successful test, you need to either do it during EU/US changeover or DT. Or shutdown sov warfare for a day. No alliance is going to commit a serious amount of people to sisi during their prime, which would leave them vulnerable if their enemies are not also participating in the test.

Originally by: CCP Tanis I'll use this opportunity to bring up that though this particular test doesn't require too many people (only 100+), we will certainly be running more tests to isolate the causes of the current lag on TQ; however, those will require far higher numbers of pilots in order to replicate the behavior that we're seeing on TQ.
...
Seeing there were almost 3 weeks between the first and the second test it will probably take months to resolve this...

Want to gather useful data, look at all the fleet battle requests.
That will show you where the large fights will be.
Gather data from the live production system. After all, that's where the problem is occurring on a regular basis.
This stuff has been tested to death on the test server and it's done nothing to resolve the issues in production.
Watch the large fleet battles on TQ, that's where you need to look, that's where the real data for the problems will be found.
Using a test server that can't handle 500 people online at the same time will do NOTHING to help you on this one.
I'm surprised at you Ga'len, I thought you were smarter than this.
Debugging code adds delays in the processing of everything that has it in. Meaning if they added the debugging code to TQ, everything would be worse. This is why the test servers/clients are created. Same goes for every major MMO company. Even WoW has a test realm.
I'm so surprised at that post, I thought you were much more tech savy than that. ---

- Lag Hunter 2: Return of Lag
- Lag Hunter 2: Resurrection
- Lag Hunter 2: The Revenge
- Lag Hunter 2: Lag Hunter Rides Again
- Lag Hunter 2: Hunt Harder
- Lag Hunter 2: The Reckoning
- Lag Hunter 2: Son of Lag
- Lag Hunter 2: The Eternal Menace
I do hope you have better luck(tools) this time, so you will get usable results from the tests.
Added another possible title.

We have had issues in the past trying to get more than 200 pilots who actually show up, so we will be trying to find new ways to get players into Sisi for these bigger tests. Details are still being worked out, but we're still feverishly working away at this issue in the meantime. We'll be releasing more info about the larger scale testing soonÖ.

How about, for starters, doing the testing at a time when many of the western world aren't at work or trying to get home from work?

If you want more players you need an extended DT or something, people in 0.0 alliances cant afford to just jump onto sisi because they will lose space if they do so.

Emergency shutdown of tq for an hour or so should do the trick... Sacrificing 1 hour to find a solution, as opposed to wasting 5-6 hours whenever a real fight goes down.

Originally by: SeerinDarkness Edited by: SeerinDarkness on 25/01/2010 12:24:05 you want people to log into the test server. then fix the patching for it. every time i have tried to connect to the test server the patcher goes and downloads the entire client AGIAN a 3 some hour proposition AND it also overwrites every single shortcut on my desktop and re-assignes it to test server at which point i ahve to re-install the game to get back on TQ. how about you de-bug the massive fleet fights on TQ that are going on just about ever day of the week since we are obviously already paying to playtest the most broken bug infested patch of all time. not counting the stupidity of whatever scientist that thought putting bug brains in drone bodies was a good idea. . Furthermore planning fleet fights around the fleet fight notification form just is not going to work...what happened to infiniband...how about some more bandwidth to trunkline connections..how about disconnecting the forums from the game world except for 2 or 3 times a day snapshots....how about sweeping your hardlines for physical van-eck devices which are stealing peoples accountnames and passwords. how about permibanning the isk spammers instead of relying on the populas to do the job for you. Seer
The problem with desktop icons being replaced is fixable without a re-installation unless you over wrote your TQ install with the test install. I had that happen before, all you have to do is go into the properties of the shortcut and edit the 'Target' line from:
"D:\EVE online test server installs\EVE Singularity\eve.exe" /server:singularity to "D:\EVE online test server installs\EVE Singularity\eve.exe"
Your Drive and path may very but you get the Idea.
Also for you people asking about how to connect theres instructions all over the place but I will help you out and reiterate it for you here. Use the above paths as an example.
Make a new folder somewhere on your computer where you have space, then copy your EVE program files folder and paste a copy of it in the new folder.
Open this new EVE folder you have made and find the EVE.EXE and create a shortcut of it in the same folder, then right click the shortcut and select properties, then edit it by adding " /server:singularity" minus the " and after the existing ", make not of the space between the existing " and the /server:singularity ... Very easy. then you can copy the shortcut and paste it on the desktop and Rename it SISI, or EVE SISI, or whatever the heck you want. I named mine SISI. When you patch this test client make sure you never select the TQ location or you will be screwed and have to re-install the game. If your shortcuts stop working For SISI and you are very sure you did not select TQ as install try editing the target line as I have covered in the first. Thank you and have fun. I hope to see you on SISI, I am still waiting for a mirror that has my new PW. :)

Singularity Test Server Tranquility and Singularity are running the same build. Please use your existing TQ client to connect to the test server.
If you need to update your existing client, please use the TQ patches page.
Cannot log on to the test server, since it's not letting me log on. Says version 6.21.126344 is the current server build, but no other patches are available.

If you want to get more people to log in, start by making it patchable. Despite what the patches page says, Sisi clearly is not running the Tranq version, and there is no incremental patch from one to the other. So if you copy over your current tranq version (126344) you can't get to SiSi using 127178. Good luck with your QA.

I assume you're not willing to give free gametime for these tests. (Please note that it's a little unfair to US TZ players if you do)
However, I think giving items on sisi would be a fair trade. I.E. if you participate in some testing, you get a full set of faction ships until the next server synch.

It is very simple. Why should we help you free of charge? all other mmo games pay for these things. CCP has let all of us down at at least one time, make them pay for it this time.
Give us 30 days free game time per player to show up and you will get the numbers you seek, or eve will slowly die off and we the people we move onto another game for their recreational time.

Perhaps if actually getting onto the test server wasn't such a convoluted pain in the ass, more people would do so for tests such as these? A big reason that you struggle to get 100 people to show up is because we have to jump through so many hoops to connect to Sisi that a lot of people won't bother. Make the test server user friendly, and just maybe you'll gain some users.

Crap!! If Liam's calling a CTA that'll be good for at least 600+ players on your stress test... ;) As a way of predicting lag CCP you might consider a system wide query for when iHubs and other large valuable structures are coming out of reinforced mode and schedule those systems to be loaded on your faster machines, as those systems will probably get bogged down as players try to take/defend a contested system.
Following Liam and company, we've seen nothing less than 1200+ man battles (accompanied with node crashes, black screens, multi-hour hangout/BS sessions waiting for the node to be brought back up... etc) as large structures (iHubs etc) became shoot-able.

i agree 100% with mr goon. until then, ill just blow up corpies and empire wardecs! until the lag is... not quite so laggy, also lag is one of the reasons i left 0.0.
as well as the most recent time i tried to patch, it didnt work. i didnt feel like sitting around, again, trying to make it work. so, until sisi is more user friendly or i feel like taking an hour out of my eve life to get the test server working... count me out. ill stick with the comparatively smoother play of empire.

Edited by: Simon Monkoto on 26/01/2010 05:14:28 It's a great idea, really it is. My only problem is that it happens while I'm at work. Come to think of it I would say that a pretty large portion of the US playerbase is at work during the times that have been posted for these sessions so far. I don't have the numbers in front of me so I don't know as a percentage how much the US constitutes the EVE playerbase but I would have to think it's a reasonably large amount. CCP, how about scheduling another testing time period for US based players? Because frankly 17:00 for me and a lot of other folks in the US simply isn't going to happen. Just for reference, in case you folks didn't know 17:00 EvE time is 12:00 pM EST (Eastern Standard Time) which is when a lot of folks are at work. While over on the West Coast of the US it's 9:00AM again another time period where folks are arriving at work or have been there for a bit.
