Yup it has killed the download a bunch of times.
I've cached everything and turned all the images off tho so that helps.
I was just hoping that CCP would actually go setup another server which worked.
FTP not HTTP.... but hey....
I do have the downloader resuming on HTTP now, never liked these programs but this one is ok. Says I have another 130 hours to go. So could probably use another CCP actually working FTP mirror, that isn't at the north pole... but hey.... They have provided another UK one and stopped at that..... So I figure they wanna do it on the cheap and don't really want to help too much.... So screw it... I don't care anymore.
And yeah, no need to get rude, I really couldn't give a **** anymore.... Spent all day trying to get some action from CCP, noticed some changes to the download page.... Guess that's as much effort they are ready to expend.

More efficient? What? Ever heard of CPU usage and bandwidth allocation? You would rather have an immense amount of traffic and delays both on the server, the test server, the forums, and the ftp and http files just because you want CCP to be the only way to distribute files? Rather than use both http and ftp, and bittorrent with about 60% of all of the downloads (and most likely more) coming from users who have read the bittorrent manual, and are thus giving to the entire community?
You would rather slow down EVERYTHING not just because of bandwidth bottlenecks by the CCP rush on their servers, but CPU's as well? Why not distribute the CPU requirement for file hosting/downloading across all of your users?
Know why? Because bittorrent is cheaper for CCP and more efficient for us. Because major online gaming companies are switching to it so they can use the money we pay them monthly on things besides OMFGINEEDANHTTPSERVERNOWNOTANYTHINGELSEWTFOMFG4EVA.
Bash CCP, because you don't know what you are talking about. Bash their planning of distribution, because you are blind to see the amount of people who already have it and are waiting (compared to those who... have complained.. can't seem to find them).
But don't try and pry off your anger on us or anyone else just because you are having a bad internet day on your ISP's side, or because you didn't read the FAQ/Manual of bittorrent to understand how to optimize your bitorrent client.
You did know that by allowing too much upload, it will slow down your download correct? And you did know, because you have memorized the manual, that it takes a good 10-15 minutes before you start seeing a huge jump in speed. And I hope you also did know, with your all empowering mindset, that your firewall/router could be blocking the ports bittorrent uses to report back to the single turrent server how much bandwidth you DESERVE to get because of how much you upload.
I would have given up posting hours ago, but I'm too bored to resist temptation.
You do realize my friend, that trying to explain this to him is like explaining a playboy model to a eunuch?
Oh... that's right- you can;t resist the temptation either.

I have never at any stage suggested the setup more servers on the same ****ty pipe. I have suggested they setup servers on decent pipes in the US for cheap.
As for not reading the manual.
For the full client I had no trouble with BitTorrent apart from that it was going to take 10 days and overwrote a 80meg file on me.
When it came to the patch version, 0.0 k/s upload, 0.001 k/s download. No matter what I changed. So...... must be all your fault :-P haha

I understand completely the idea of using BitTorrent to save a corporation money. Seems great... lets bake them cookies and hold hands singing com-bia-ah my lord com- bia-ah or however it goes.
Thing you seem to want to kill me for is this.... BitTorrent wasn't a good solution for MY situation... was for you? great... awesome... I'm so happy..... It wasn't for me.... ok with u? Is it ok for me to not had a good experience downloading the patch thru BitTorrent? Or should I write to you for approval to have a bad experience with it?
So.... Seeing as I pay CCP to provide me with a service....... I figured maybe they could provide me with that service.... funny eh.... such a strange concept :-)
Everyone having fun waiting to use their new clients? :-) I'm so glad to hear u got it at 50000 k/s .... So glad to head BitTorrent worked for you.... And really really glad to hear that you were able to do handstands at the same time.
I wasn't....
but hey.... that's not CCP's fault.... afterall they did provide 2 FTP servers that lasted a couple of hours. yay... so cool.

Wrong. You are paying to use their services, they are not under any obligation to provide you with anything. You are paying to use their servers, their software, and the ability to connect. You are not paying them to provide you with anything. It's a privlege, not a right.
Quote: I have never at any stage suggested the setup more servers on the same ****ty pipe. I have suggested they setup servers on decent pipes in the US for cheap.
Right. Because temporary server rental in a foriegn country makes a ton of sense when more than 60% of your bandwidth can be handled through bittorrent.
Great financial thinking on your part.
Quote: For the full client I had no trouble with BitTorrent apart from that it was going to take 10 days and overwrote a 80meg file on me.
Case in point of you not reading the manual, the speed in which you were getting it. The 80 megs were overwridden because those 80 megs were corrupted (most likley from when you halted the transfer, and thus those bits were corrupted, as it downloads sections of the file rather than from front to back).
Of course, that was in the manual too.
Quote: When it came to the patch version, 0.0 k/s upload, 0.001 k/s download. No matter what I changed. So...... must be all your fault :-P haha
Then you need to change your firewall/router settings to allow bittorrent to connect outbound and inbound for not just the program, but the outgoing reporting port. That too, is in the manual.
Why am I still talking to you about this? Because your problem is a problem that most new people to bittorrent have, and the same thing has been solved each time if you would only listen to us (especially those of us offering direct links, even mail cd's) and read the manual.
I'm done. And this thread need to be locked as it's not offering any useful information to the community and I can see this going way too far.

Well it is only like 100x cheaper and everyone knows the US has no decent BW.

Great so it deleted 80 meg...... regardless of why.... That's hours and hours and hours down the drain.

It was working fine, no firewall issues, just nowhere decent that it would connect me to.

Not sure.... Maybe cause it wasn't a good migration to the new version and u'r left with nothing else to do after downloading at 50000 k/s then coming to tell me how cool it is that u were able to?

Hey I'll be the first to admit, I can be a right bastard :-)
but doesn't mean I don't have a point....
Just because BitTorrent worked for most ppl out there.... Doesn't mean CCP shouldn't have provided FTP download links....
I'd actually be able to resume one of these 50 meg imcomplete files I have here eh :-)
but that would be a bad thing right?

CCP did provide Http and ftp links, and so did I on the 4th page of thoius topic, and Goteng has an ftp running also replyed in the 4th page.
I offered help, others offered help and you refuse to take it. I believe that says it all. Now i am forced to question your problem in the first place. Why are you just raging on about something that is not going to change anyways? Why do you refuse our help ?
Now If you missed my and Goten's addition to this topic I will offer it one more time. Goten has started a Topic in the general forum stating a mirror FTP.
I have and the offer still stands to host the file on HTTP 'just' for you on my 1Mbit Client line I can also run an ftp whatever you want I have the full client and the patch as does Goten.

LOL, Yellowe don't turn red please :)
Why the hell aren't oyu using BT? Only to complain here?
BT works sweet even on 56Kb/s connections. I'm sure you are doing something wrong if you cannot get it. So let's try to clarify that.
1. download ANY BT client. I recommend you Bitcomet at www.bitcomet.com . It easy and should be autoconfigured when you install it. 2. Set your upload speed (on BComet prefs) at 50% your upload capacity and yout download speed the max you can have.
If you ain't doing that you deserve to do not play EVE. Good luck. |
