All the FTP mirrors are down.
I need resume of a half-finished file.
I won't use a spyware riddled download manager.
Someone from CCP please upload to an FTP mirror somewhere.
This time use equipment that can handle the load.

Use BitTorrent. It's free and there is no spyware. Or, use the GetRight download manager, no spyware as well.

Bittorrent was terribly slow, had no resume, was sucking all my upload bandwidth.... and generally sucked.
So.....
How bout I offer to mirror the file in the US....
CCP? You want everything free? or are you willing to buy some really cheap good quality US bandwidth to help with deployment?

I did some research. Bittorrent is not even close to the same as kazaa or anything. Its a clean distributive technology with publisher authentication. The eve people have version control if you download it via their link and bittorrent itself is as clean as the driven slow. Its distributed with the MIT license too. They wouldnt let you jump off a cliff in the name of eve.

Yes I know bittorrent... It's clean, featureless, sucks and isn't going to work for me on this dialup link I find myself on. With no resume I hardly expect a 10 hour link to work for downloading a 60 hour file. Then with it sucking 100% of my upstream bandwidth it's kinda hard to use the computer for anything other than a paper weight.
So I say again.....
CCP, everything for free? or will to spend a tiny amount on deployment?
I can get you setup in a major datacenter in the US with links to all the major backbones with very cheap bandwidth rates. This would make life a lot easier for a great many of your customers. Short turn around, cheap, reduce churn from upset downloaders.

I'm offering a solution. CCP can help their customers, or leave them with nothing.
Bittorrent IS NOT a solution I and MANY others can use.
btw the HTTP downloads are also now all but dead.

KK i understand the issue.
First, for all that is good, if your going to stay on dialup invest in a download manager that cost $$$ so you avoid the spyware. Worth every penny. I know what im talking about i spent 2 years on dialup from 97 to 99 and download manager made the last year very much less frustrating.
Second, though, on to your issue. I think your right. Most people on dialup have access to a clean ftp program that handles the download much better at 56k rates then just raw internet explorer http downloading. While eve can say what i did on point 1 i dont think thats a healthy position. They would be wise to mirror the 100 meg patch on an ftp so people on dialup without a download manager except for their favorite ftp program will have an easier time of it. The reason i say wise is that every 50 meg then drop from an http connection == 50 more megs they pay for.
And asking them to go for 500 megs via ftp instead of 100 megs for the patch doesnt help anyone.
But for your sanity man buy a download manager!

I'm only on this dialup for this week.
I'm currently transfering it to one of my servers, however even at 100MBit it's slow, guess that's the UK server being hammered.
Seriously..... US bandwidth is sooooooo cheap.... just spend a couple of dollars and get it setup in a major datacenter which can more then handle the load.

ftp://eve:[email protected]/client/EVE_2942.exe
It's just a bit full atm. The FTP in Netherlands went down earlier, I don't have an ETA yet on that.
If you want to provide a mirror for US users, I'd be glad to upload the client or patch to that location. I'm just not sure you would like to do that. We already have a number of locations drowned with the download (multiple 100 mbit trunks). You can contact us at technical at ccpgames.com.

do bittorrent. I got the patch in like 10 mins. And when you download it, LEAVE BITTORRENT OPEN for the love of god so others can download it as quickly as I did. :)
my torrent has a 1mbit uplink, so hope I help out.

No corpmates willing to burn it on a CD and send it?
I dislike BT as well, but I got 40KB/s down on a HTTP dl.

Had the same issue as many of you with pure http downloading from IE. Did it last night, however, and i got 500kb/s down. Then i had to reformat, so i put it on a disk, and somehow it got infected with Parite, which infected my just clean system, so i had to reformat again and throw away the disk. So now i'm using bittorrent, and it worked great, got around 350 down. Only question is this: to you bittorrent users out there, what do you suggest for a good client, and if i was willing to (and i am) leave it on for others to d/l, what would be the best way to maximize my upload speeds so others get good connec off me? Thanks.
