Myself,leaving a bunch of shuttles outside a station,coming back from a nowhere in a Raven and seeing a dude steal one...shot the dude,got concor****ened.
Promptly went in station, grabbed a Ferox,undocked...got concordikkened again.
I was about 4 months old at the time though...if that can count as a reason.

Edited by: Kessiaan on 29/01/2010 20:00:08 I went to 0.0 thinking it would be this awesome pvp experience.
My new friends' idea of pvp was forming 200+ man BS/capital gangs, sitting on a gate for 5 hours, and when another fleet showed up, following the FC calls and seeing who ran out of ships first.
I got bored and went back to lowsec.

I had a friend who had just gotten his jump clone. He jumped into it and started traveling down to 0.0, in a hulk no less, lost the ship and got pod killed shortly there after. He tried again (he didn't update his clone), in a Brutix, lost his ship and was pod killed there shortly after. He tried again (he didn't update his clone again), in a shuttle, lost his ship and was pod killed shortly there after.
He had lost a total of almost 2 million skill points because of that episode. His excuse? And I quote, "I was in my jump clone, I though my skill points were protected in my main clone!"

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 29/01/2010 22:31:29 Leaving EVE unattended for a while, taking out the trash. Come back to a pod, and Concord Mail, which stated that my faction fitted Rattlesnake was toast. It was a number of years ago, at that count it was about 7 billion ISK worth of mods, including the ship.
Apparently my dear partner decided to see what, and I quote: "this EVE thing is all about," and, to my response of "WTF did you do?" was: "Its a stupid game, and you must not be very good at it, I tried to shoot a guy in that special super-duper ship you talked about and I got killed right away!"
So, lesson learned, do not leave EVE client unattended with my love around, just in case another try might be in the pipeline.
Edit: Obviously the incident took place in High Sec.

Oooh boy, this last week was my worst ever.
I was inflicted with a terrible flu since Sunday, so I thought it would be a good time to rest and play EVE to heal. In my attempt to offload a rigged Marauder (about 1.075 billion ISK in value), someone managed to pulled off one of those trade window scams on me. I got 1.075 million ISK for it.
The very next day, I was scanning stuff down in a lonely system to take my mind off the loss. After a couple nice radar sites, I discovered a pristine wormhole. In the process of switching to my sleeper-killing ship, however, my ~50 million ISK scanning ship (fitted with Sisters equipment), was destroyed by some dude in a Proteus. A worthy death, at least.
A little groggy, disappointed and preoccupied, I went into the wormhole with the sleeper-killer without thinking. After jumping around a little bit making safe spots, I realized I hadn't bookmarked the wormhole to get back out. I'm still stuck in there, pricey implants and all.
I guess I'll use the time I spend in there skill training or something!

Ratting in 0.0 with my Tempest back when Scouts and Arbalest were the top dogs. Fully fitted with very respectable gear.
Wife in full agro for the last 20 minites about who knows what...I think it had something to do with dinner. So after I kill the last bs and scoop the loot, I... in my now wife induced frazzled state, warp to my "safe" spot...forget to hit my cloak, and head off to appease the wife.
After about 10 mins, I hear the familiar sounds of trouble. I dart to the computer room, further agro from Mrs.B ensues and to make matters even more comical I see my Tempest fully locked down and being curb stomped. Three rival alliance bs and two fast moving frigs. I sent my drones after the frigs and quickly tried to throw everything I had at a Raven, but I was way too far neck deep in the ****e! Well deserved smack down.
Poof!
Then they podded me...then more agro from the wife for, "spending more time with that game than me!"
Did I mention she hates this game?

Joined my first corp after being a hard core care bear for almost 2 years. Corp was located in Dysa, in Derelik region. I loaded up my T2 fitted and rigged Hulk with all of my researched BPOs and most of my T2 gear, and the rest of the space with Blue Ice, and headed to Dysa from Cistuvaert, a Gallente noob starting spot. Everything was fine until I jumped blindly into Abha system in Derelik region, where I more or less ****d stupid and silly by a pirate who hit the jackpot that day.
A billion isk in assets shot right in the rear end, I was bound and determined to make my first steps into low-sec work, and so I podded myself into Dysa to get a better look around and evaluate my position.
I located a replacement Hulk and mods a few jumps away, and set off to get myself righted and into business. I made it back to Dysa with the new Hulk, and set out mining stuff I'd never seen with my Hi-sec carebear eyes before, and had a grand time for about 10 minutes until the pirates came along and blew that one up.
What can I say, I learn slow.
I ended up living there in Dysa and Mahti for 6 months or so, and learned how to NOT get killed every 15 minutes, so in the end it was worth the pain of learning, but that first day, losses of over 1.5 billions, was pretty epic fail.

Edited by: Batolemaeus on 30/01/2010 02:40:54 Now that i had enough time during boring pos siege..
I was terminally bored once, so i played around with some combat guardian fit. I've specialized in flying those things but never really killed people with them.
So i went roaming around, flying through Pure Blind. It was largely empty. I had a fight on the gate to empire in ec-, which i won (killed a ceptor, reds deaggressed and jumped) Then, i hit a gatecamp with ~10 people. I reaproached to test their dps, but it was a bit too much, so i jumped. Apparently one of their rifter pilots was smarter than his mates and he hadn't aggressed, so he jumped after me. He managed to tackle my alt, so i killed him. As i was retracting my drones, local spiked, so i immediately squadwarped out. Sadly i had selected a planet instead of a gate, so to my surprise i landed on a planet (doh!). Of course a ceptor landed on top of me, so i aligned out and killed him too. Just as he popped, his gang landed on me and got a lucky scram on my main.
The fight ended after i had put a curse into structure (lucky guy got one mwd cycle off) and had just shot a vaga down to armor as the domi got a jam on my alt. It kind of went downhill from there..

Thought I had enough time after undocking to warp an Orca full of bpo's, faction ships and gift shuttles and zephyr's to be able to warp away from the faction police who didn't like my standings. Boom. Was nice to see that the orca wreck looks like an orca though.

Edited by: CCP Manifest on 31/01/2010 14:30:19 My worst was also, unsurprisingly, my first "PvP" experience.
The time had come. Time to man up. Time to put something on the line. Time to figure out what stern stuff I was made of.
At that particular point in my EVE career, "stern stuff" wasn't much, ammounting to just enough courage to seek out a defenseless miner with my severely underdeveloped sense of honor and preying on them mercilessly (until someone showed up--at which point I'd warp the heck outta there).
I dusted off my favorite ship at the time--I believe it was a Punisher--and rechristened it as the Hubris III before undocking. t was packed to the gills (I'd filled EVERY SLOT!) with modules I'd gotten from missions. There was no regard for tactical fitting. No need to adhere to the so-called natural "bonuses" of the vessel. This was the Hubris III people! (Hubris I and II were imagined prototypes)
I had some time on my hands so I flew around a bit, eventually and miraculously making it deep into 0.0 unharmed. That first "low sec" warning was a real pulse-pounder. It took me several minutes to decide jump beyond it.
After going through a dozen or so systems and probably 50 belts, I finally found my prey. Tasty.
Bzzzt bzzzzt. Bzzzt bzzzzt. The mining lasers so rythmically regular. So soothing. Their pilot alluringly vulnerable.
Approach. Our ships collided. He didn't react. Must be AFK! I type in local.
"Hello?"
Bzzzt bzzzzt.
I grew bolder, establishing a lock.
Bzzzt bzzzzt.
I check my weapons. Everything looks like it is loaded properly. Flip on my Civvy shields. (Yeah you heard that right)
Bzzzt bzzzzt.
"SURRENDER OR IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!" was the warning I issued IN CAPS for emphasis from my pod aboard the Hubris III.
The reply was patient and unexpected. Bzzzt bzzzzt.
DONKEY KONG ensued. Well, sorta. The shields on the Hulk I was facing moved maybe 1-2% thanks to my inability to understand range, ammo type, resistances etc.
Being enamored with EVE's graphics, I had already trained my camera on my victim in anticipation of seeing the explosion of my first kill.
Bzzzt bzzzzt. Bzzzt bzzzzt.
After about ten seconds, the Hulk pilot actually oriented his ship towards me, as if formally addressing me. A reply came through in local.
What are you doing?
"Killing you, that's what!" (Oooh yeah. Good line Manifest!)
Bzzzt bzzzzt. Bzzzt bzzzzt. ...And then five drones popped out and headed towards me.
Now, I'm not sure if everyone reacts the same way I did the first time they have drones trained on them. Well, I hadn't ever used a drone, so these little, fast moving icons were perplexing, and, frankly, horrifying when I saw what they were doing to my shields.
I freaked right the junk out. I experienced the full paralysis of noob PvP combat--searching for the "escape button" but then realizing I still needed to align, and that something to align to was several seconds away from being clicked thanks to the way I'd set up my overview. Some quick, frantic calculations versus the rate my shields were going down and I was frozen in time.
Soon after I got my explosion. Hubris III down for the count. Never seen a pod before, but it sure looked fragile.
Bzzzt bzzzzt. Bzzzt bzzzzt.
Learned your lesson? came over local chat.
"Yeah, my bad." (Not quite the epic one-liner Manifest...)
Not coming back?
"Nope. Have a nice day. I'll be going back to my station now."
Fly safer.
Bzzzt bzzzzt. Bzzzt bzzzzt.
---
Second worst EVE Blunder? As Obama was taking the podium during the inauguration, I was in-warp to a lvl 4 in my prized Abaddon.
Howeverlonglater, when I remembered I had been playing EVE, I returned to my laptop and my pod, an instant reminder that if you are going to tank a mission with the sound off, you should at least turn on your armor hardeners. Up until that point, I thought that politics and EVE mixed well. I guess I'm doing it wrong. --CCP Manifest-- |

A few weeks ago I got an email from CCP informing me of 5 free days of account activation for my spare inactive account. I made use if it and was happy, training up a hauling alt.
Then last Friday I got a similar email, just as that account was to expire again. I tried to make use of it ... FAIL!
It was a email phishing scam, and due to using the same password they got access to all my accounts and email (also FAIL there by me, fixed now though). Well I am now 5 bil isk poorer and still waiting for replies from CCP regarding my petitions. (Anyone know which category they should be filed on to ask for isk to be given back and how long it takes?)
I just wish my worst EVE blunder was due to in-game actions, and did not involve account hacking.

Thank you for clearing up my use of terminology. Hacking seems to mean modifying computer code. But they did take the CCP website code (the HTML part) and modify it to do something else. Should have used the word phishing again in my last sentence, is that correct?
Yes I did unwittingly give them my password, but I doubt I was the only one to fall for this. I just hope this is not an accepted or intended game play mechanic.

So many blunders, not sure which one is the worst...but my favorite one is when I was only 10 days old, I joyfully found my first wormhole... entered it in my Catalyst, did not recover my probes before I jumped, and didn't bookmark the wh from inside. A remarkably kind (and easily amused by my situation) person in the WH's local chat fleeted me and safely led me to the exit, no doubt laughing the whole way :)

Anywho, one of my worst blunders:
There was this one patch last year that caused people's clients to not fully load every few jumps (you could see the stars and such, but your overview, HUD and windows never loaded, forcing you to log out and log back in). For some reason, the Minmatar Militia decided to go on a Providence roam during this, which ended up being a disaster with the first bubble we jumped into. I was one of the lucky ones who survived, and quickly got into a neighboring system.
At this point, I should mention that this patch wiped out all my settings, and since I hadn't saved a backup of them, I was still working at setting up my overviews. The FC is still alive, and wants someone to scout out my side of the gate. I warp to a nearby planet, hit the scanner, and nothing shows up. Rather than thinking "Shouldn't the stargate at least show up on my scanner?", I tell the FC that the gate is clear. He and the rest of the fleet jumps through. Needless to say, there was a surprise waiting for them. The FC wasn't pleased _________ |

I might have been there for that!
I remember those (horrible) few days after that patch when we'd have to re-log after most jumps. I also remember slaughtering a Minnie Militia gang during that time (granted, you got totally blobbed...but you know how Prov is)

Sitting out in 0.0 in my alliance's space (pre-sovereign stuff), and saw this incoming pew-pew loaded with tackle stuff. He popped a bubble, then people swarmed me.
My mistake was assuming my dual Maelstroms could pop him as he came in. I intended to do that, then warp away. I just wiffed and wiffed (knew tracking would be an issue once he got close, but while still 10s of k away?)
I gave a good fight against the horde (had ships fly in opposite directions so one or the other could get range) and one made it outside the bubble, but lost 'em both.

I did quite a few blunders just today.
First i went to a wormhole with my scanning ship, but was so distracted i left a few windows open and never seen some other frigate was nearby. Not long afterward i got targeted and drones made short work of me. To add insult to injury, i had drones myself and did not even launch them.
A bit later i went into a plexe with some friends, but got careless and flown right through the npcs with my catalyst expecting to kill them off easily. Got blown up and lost rigs and a few of the modules.
And last, i almost repeated the exploit with my hyperion in a level 4 mission with my corp mates. A new spawn appeared and i got all aggro, but was overconfident and stayed to fight. I made it out with my last inch of armor.
I believe i made more blunders in a single day than i did in the last few months.

I was about a week old and doing level 1 missions. I got a friend to buy an account and was showing off my new destroyer. We were in a mission room and ungrouped and in separate newb corps. Anyway, I says "watch this!" and lit off a smart bomb. It blew him up and then concord warped in and blew me up. I go back to the station, spend nearly the last of my ISK on a Rifter, fitted it, launched and boom. Didn't know anything about count down timers. Still it was fun. <===========================================>

besides the usual (buying a navy raven in jita local) i remember..
- mining gas in low sec with a cruiser and a cloaked viator.. 'neutrals' show up and stay.. my aligned cruiser got away.. viator is cloaked.. think i might just pick up the gas from the jetcan (worth like 5mil) - just a short decloak needed..
- slingshotting an alliance-mates freighter without checking for proper agression timer, assuming the earlier canflip surely is enough..
- wondering what my ceo (nearby) just dropped on an op in his bomber..

I was transporting a full set of slave implants from stain to empire in an interceptor when I stumbled across a hauler on a gate and attacked it without realizing I had just jumped into the first 0.1. Long story short, a 2 week old noob in an atron stumbled across the wreck and made himself a cool 1bil.

Logging off drunk in a random W-space without a scanning ship and or friends near (*beer*)
Finding out that living in W-space is quit boring after bringing in billions worth of stuff as it takes ages to scan your way in and out, everday, rinse and repeat -even with good skills ^^.
Having a big mouth in localchat about how you will conquer the system and annihilate everybody in it and then get instapopped 1 second after your 'intimidating' speech. ___________________

It's hard to choose the worst.
There was the time (not so long ago ) when I got podded, jumped into a new ship, and got podded again. Oops, forgot to upgrade that clone, scratch 1,000,000 SP off of Caldari Battleship 5.
Then there was the time I was playing station games with WT's in my Nighthawk. I wasn't going to win that fight so I deagressed with plenty of shield left and started spamming "dock." About a minute later as I entered about 1/2 armor I realized I hadn't recalled the drones... ________________________________________ Always choose the lesser of two weevils! |

Jumping out of a WH about to pop in a cyclone before the smaller ships jumped because I misheard the FC... They did have a prober stuck inside with them though and managed to get out to some lowsec system and the ships got a carrier ride back to nullsec.

Edited by: Barakkus on 03/02/2010 18:32:00 Autopiloting on an alt in a mammoth full of random bpos and junk, accidentally left autopilot set to shortest. Come back in the room and notice a little orange dot as the next jump, still slowboating it to the gate, frantically trying to grab the mouse and click to disable autopilot...just before I click off autopilot it jumps into a .4 system....on the otherside a gatecamp...and what's funny is I never run into gatecamps going through lowsec, except when I forget about autopilot settings...

This was about 1 year ago, shortly after I started playing. I had just gotten enough isk to buy a shiny new Megathron. I was so excited to be in a battleship. My corp mate had a mission in a lowsec system next door and thought it would be a good chance for me to try out my spiffy new ship. I was leary at first but he insisted that "I would be just fine." Now, after I had just spent all the isk I had on the ship and few new mods, I didnt have enough to insure it...well, you can see where this is going. We got scanned down and I got tackled, friend got out. Pirate ask for 200mil or boom goes the thron. Being a noob I tried to pull the logoffski. I didnt make it. We still laugh at that from time to time. --------------

Back in my newb days in my mining Rokh I decided I wanted to mine Kernite but I was unaware at the time it was available in Amarr high-sec. Yep you guessed, I took a mining Rokh into low-sec, two WCS and mining upgrades and everything.
The funny part was, I never lost it although I only used it for about two-three days before heading back. By all accounts that Rokh shouldn't have made it off the gate let alone mine solo in low-sec for three days...but it did.
Nowadays if I'm in low-sec it's in a Pilgrim.

Well on my main - left eve to play wow in 2005...missed out on sooo many skill points :P
On this guy
1) Playing again and thinking that low sec was nice and safe like it used to be in 2005 - just being careful when jumping in. Of course populations have increased from 14K max to 55K max therefore low sec isn't as quiet as it was...podded in my miner.. 2) Wardecced and deciding that flying in empire would be ok, went afk shuttle flying to get this guy his BS....boom...25 mil worth of implants later less stupid.

Reminds me of one of my first losses on this character.
Decided to go "salvaging" in lowsec (hoping for my first real pvp experience). Go out in my rifter to an asteroid belt, and there's a wreck. I lock it and fly over, in comes flashy red AF...starts locking so I do the same, and click on my guns (thinking they'll start firing when I get lock). Dialog box pops up, didn't bother reading it, figured I was in lowsec so no need to worry about CONCORD. Instead of shooting the AF, I shoot the wreck (belonging to someone else). AF quickly dispatches me. All mad and butthurt, I go back to station one jump over and thinking to myself "I'm gonna get that big bad pirate" and hop in a Cyclone that I had just purchased couple days before. Hit undock and when the black screen of undocking goodness disapears, I find myself in a pod, unfortunately I didn't know that the red countdown at the top of the left hand portion of my screen was a global criminal countdown. When I realized what happened, I went back in station embarassed and waited out the timer. Undocked and looted/salvaged my wreck hoping no one would notice.
I then got another Cyclone and fit a shield and armor tank to it (lol) and some ACs and Arties (double lol). Head over to the system I got blown up in the first time, and lo and behold, same AF warps into the belt, he starts attacking me and I quickly put him into armor. He warps off since I have no point. Comes back 2 minutes later with another AF buddy at around 50km, fail pirate says in local, "100mil and you live"...as they close the distance I pop his friend with arties. Right around the time his friend pops, I'm into half armor. I start pounding the remaining guy with drones and ACs. He warps off in structure as well as myself. Took me 2 or 3 hours to get off that adrenaline rush.
Now I know better about gcc, fittings and points :P

Bought two miners instead of one by not paying attention. Left station on a Bantam instead of Merlin hence not enough cap for a lot of warps. Made 13 jumps shopping trip instead of quick hop to Jita.
All within the last half hour. *sigh*
